With Linux (such as Ubuntu/Mint, Redhat, openSuSE, Mageia etc) it might be
better to get a separate program to generate QR-codes or bar-codes. Often
one package lets you choose either.

If you are using Base with the internal back-end then it is highly likely
to be a twisted form of HSqlDb.
Apparently it is fairly easy to export an internal database so that you can
use an external HSqlDb database program. You would need to install HSqlDb
as a separate program.
