Re: [libreoffice-users] Watermarks
Unfortunately, the bar was not included in the LO5 version. I think it is a developer mistake. Blessings, Joe On 08/21/2015 07:32 PM, Ping-Wu Zhang wrote: I am not seeing the import graphic bar. I did solve my problem with help from users. The pathway is **a *Format - Page - Area**- Then change the Fill Bar to Bitmap* - this opens a whole new panel of selections, which includes an *Import Graphic* bar. Clicking it allowed for navigation to the .jepg I needed for the watermark. I did not need to change the transparency, I just wanted the background image (it was a form with fill-in lines but was not a .pdf or word processor document.) This pathway is not at all intuitive. Perhaps someone who knows how to modify the help files (mine are downloaded and installed) to reflect this pathway. Better yet, why not have *WATERMARK* as one of the choices of the *Insert* drop down menu. I think that would make it intuitive. ( Assuming your watermark is a graphic) You begin with Format Page. Click the Area tab . Select type of watermark from the Fill drop down list. Select the Transparency tab. Set the amount of transparency. Close the dialog. The Fill drop down list is likely to be a problem because of the underlying choices that are possible. Custom colors can be created and used. Gradients can be created and used. Hash patterns likewise. Graphics can be added to the gallery and then used. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LibreOffice 5.0 Review Rating | PCMag.com
Nice article indeed. I personally like the structured way of the menus. I am a long time user of OpenOffice, and later LibreOffice. When MS started with the ribbon, I just didn't use MS office anymore, and on my newer systems (Mac's and PCs) I only install LO. Recently I experienced that I can't update LO beyond version 4.3.6 on the Mac I mostly use which is running OSX 10.7.5; The hardware does not allow upgrading OSX any further... So, I feel a little 'left in the dark' I am still a happy user of LO, though! Rob. On 21 aug. 2015, at 13:02, Pedro wrote: Jack Wallen wrote Thought I'd share this. I disagree that the UI is the biggest problem... If you are a NEW user (i.e. never used an Office suite before) then you need to learn it from zero and organized menus are more logical than large buttons organized by someone else. If you are moving from Office 2003 then you will feel at home. However if you are used to Office 2007 or newer then you are in real trouble. Not only you will have to relearn/adjust to the UI but you will have BIG problems with round-trip documents regardless if you are using XML based MS file formats or Open Documents... The issue is that not only XML based MS formats are proprietary and constantly changing even within MS Office versions (so it is impossible for other Offices to open or save EXACTLY like MS) but Microsoft makes sure that you will also not want to use Open Document format to exchange files. You will ALWAYS get some warning (more or less scary) that you will loose something or that you have already lost something... I really don't see a solution for this problem... Even if Governments effectively push for Open Documents, the scary messages will always make users think twice before opening or saving to Open Document formats... Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LibreOffice 5.0 Review Rating | PCMag.com
Suggestion: you could install ubuntu using a dual boot. Then you could use the latest version. I have a MacBook running 10.4 and ubuntu 14.04. I am also using LibreOffice 5.0.1 RC1 on ubuntu. Re: [libreoffice-users] UNO with Libreoffice 5 (64-Bit, Win) and Java
On 08/20/2015 08:54 PM, Aurelius Octavian wrote: My little Java program uses Libreoffice's (Openoffice's) API named UNO to talk to an installation of the new Libreoffice Version 5 (5.0.0.5). Under Ubuntu Linux, the Java programs runs in a 64-Bit Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and happily talks via UNO to Libreoffice 64-Bit to use some Libreoffice functions. However under Windows (64-Bit) with a Libreoffice 64-Bit installation, when I use a 64-Bit JVM to run the same Java program, it results in a Libreoffice error message (i.e. it's not a Java-UNO error) saying something like: Libreoffice 5.0 : The application can't be started. An internal error occurred. (Freely translated from my localised error message which is: „Libreoffice 5.0 : Die Anwendung kann nicht gestartet werden. Ein interner Fehler ist aufgetreten.“ ) So under Windows I've to fall back to a 32-Bit JVM and a Libreoffice 32-Bit installation. Then I can use the very same Java program in a 32-Bit JVM to talk with Libreoffice 32-Bit. However, I'd very much like to use a 64-Bit JVM under Windows, too. Is this possible somehow with the new Libreoffice 64-Bit for Windows? It should work. My best bet would be to use the Depends tool to trace execution of your Java program and the processes spawned from it, and see whether there is anything going wrong at the DLL-finding level that causes the spawned soffice.bin to fail. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
