[libreoffice-users] Re: SOLVED: cannot convert text to number in spreadsheet from csv file

2014-04-20 Thread Tinkerer
I import English web data.
I installed the Extension CT2N, Convert Text To Numbers, and this puts an
icon in the Tool Bar.
A click on CT2N and it is done.
I had a problem with currency prefixes as they did not convert, but Cor Nous
sorted that for me.

I need to make frequent changes to the Page Format on the three Sheets that
I print from.
I cannot predetermine every change, so a change in the margins is the
simplest way out, or it would be if it remains with that sheet only.

BTW. Re. CT2N. Using Libre version 3, I was not able to add your suggestion
for the £ prefix as the Macro was in the Libre Macros. In version 4, the
macro is in My Macros, so I was able to alter it.
It works great.

James

You have not read my request correctly.
I know how to use Templates and I know you can add to the text, I also know
that you cannot import another file into the Document, you can only Paste
something in.
This applies whether you are using a New Document, or one created from a
Template.
Brian Barker has it right, I must accept that the file will be on another
sheet and then Paste Special into my Formatted Sheet.

I might add. The Bank Date Format uses Hyphens, Cor Nous Extension CT2N
corrects this.
With a small adjustment it will also recognize numbers prefixed by a
Currency sign.

LibreOffice succeed.

These solutions are far too complex especially if you have very large sheets.
Why not use the extension CT2N?
It is simple, very straightforward and you can decide ,whole sheet, or just
parts.
The ' is just removed.
I understand it is to be included as standard, in which case there will be
no need to install the extension.

2013-11-12 Thread Tinkerer
Brian

If you are using a Mac 10.9 then you can move a Tool Bar icon simply by
clicking on the gap to the right of the icon.
When the object frame appears, drag the fame to where you want the icon,
let go and the icon will move.

I use CT2N when I copy and paste from a web site and it works, with one
exception.
If the number is prefixed by a currency sign, CT2N does not work.
Cor very kindly gave me a solution.
In your Macros you will find CT2N
In the module Main Code, find function Check for Text in String.
There you can find the line, 'new in 1.2.0: allow for negative numbers:
-=45, (=40,)=41
 Elseif j=45 AND i=1 Then'
You can then insert before, or immediately after that line, 'Elseif j = 163
AND i = 1 Then ' allow for £'
(Ignore the ' at the beginning and the end of the insert.)
This also works, Many thanks, Cor.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Visible currency rounding

2013-07-15 Thread Tinkerer
Tom

Let me put it another way.
Take the following sales:
50 items @ 1.37 VAT @20% = 68.50 VAT = 13.70

If the same items are sold separately, the VAT would be different.
1 item @ 1.37 VAT @ 20% = 0.274 for the VAT
This would be rounded to 27p and 50 x 0.27 = 13.50
Rounding has caused a difference of 20p
When paying tax, you are required to pay what you have collected.
If you calculate as you suggest you may hand over more tax than you have
collected.
What I think he is looking for is a simple way of calculating the VAT due on
his total with each individual item rounded down and that cannot be done.
Each item has to be calculated, rounded down and then a total obtained for
the rounded figures.
HMRC take the view that VAT is payable on the total value of cash sales plus
the VAT calculated on Invoiced sales.
In my examples the VAT due would be 27.20 assuming that the 100 items sold
would consist of 50 invoiced and 50 cash
sales.

The post said he wanted to round everything including the tax on his invoice
template.
As I said earlier. He needs to go into Tools Options Calc Calculate and
check the Precision as shown box.
This will make all his calculations precise as displayed.
ie if he sets to two decimal places then Calc will concatenate the result to
two places.
There is no need for fancy formulas.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Visible currency rounding

2013-07-14 Thread Tinkerer
I do not understand your formula, but you can set the result to a number of
decimal places and I assume that is what you have done.
Calc displays the number of places you set, but this is not the exact
result, eg it may display two decimal places, but in fact is carrying
forward three decimal places.
To correct this go to Preferences (Mac) or ToolsOptions(Windows) Set the
Calc Calculate to Precision as shown.
The result will then be as shown in the cell.
BTW. The UK VAT calculations allow you to round down to the nearest penny
and this should equal the amount paid to the HMRC.

2013-06-15 Thread Tinkerer
When I want to draw horizontal line I use:

Automatic lines in Writer
1. If you start a new line in a Writer text document by typing three or more
hyphen characters and press the Enter key, the characters are removed and
the previous paragraph gets a line as a bottom border.
To create a single line, type three or more hyphens (-), or underscores ( _
), and then press Enter. To create a double line, type three or more equal
signs (=), asterisks (*), tildes (~), or hash marks (#), and then press
Enter.
2. To remove an automatically drawn border, choose Format - Paragraph -
Borders and select no border.
3. To undo an automatic border replacement once, choose Edit - Undo.
4. To disable the automatic borders, choose Tools - AutoCorrect Options -
Options and clear Apply border.

The lines and other drawing objects that you insert in text are not defined
in HTML, and are therefore not exported directly into HTML format. Instead,
they are exported as graphics.

When the document is saved these lines are retained.
There is no need for the Insert Horizontal Line in the Insert menu.

It follows then that there must be: A difference in the interpretation, i.e.

The LO Options for a Mac are in LO Preferences.

I am happy with the Quickstarter currently using LO 4.0.1

All Mac Applications have their 'Preferences' where you set up all the

Most Mac users prefer it that way and the Libre O people appear to agree

[libreoffice-users] Re: Mac OS X 10.7.3 - Java

2012-03-22 Thread Tinkerer
I have Mac 10.7.3 and Java is installed by Apple version 1.6.0_29
I have always felt it wise to stick to the Apple version concurrent with
each system.
Using Libre 3.5.2.1, I have no trouble running macros.

Showing the apostrophe in front of a number is a great help.
If I total a column it immediately tells me which numbers are included in
the total and, more important, which numbers are not.
Real text does not need the apostrophe.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Macintosh Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

2012-03-02 Thread Tinkerer
I only use the system short cuts, which appear in the menus.
If you create additional keyboard cuts, then these must be Saved.
Having saved them, they must consequentially be Loaded if you wish to use
them.
If the keys you have assigned conflict with system keys, the system key will
be replaced.
That is my understanding, perhaps someone will correct me.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Write2epub

2012-02-12 Thread Tinkerer
e-letter

Writer can be converted to an epub document using the extension Write2epub
My experience is it does make a bit of a mess to it though if your document
is rather complex.

For the benefit of others.
I updated my Libre Office to the latest build of 3.5 and now everything
appears to be OK except for poor formatting in the finished e document.
The PDF conversion works perfectly except for the drawbacks of PDF.
This thread seems to have developed into a discussion on the merits/demerits
of epub and PDF
I know more about both now.

[libreoffice-users] Write2epub

2012-02-10 Thread Tinkerer
I have found Write2epub.
All the extensions are on a disc downloaded from Kracked Press.

I thought I would try it for converting Libre User Guides to epub format for
the iPad.
I may not have set it up correctly, but just using the extension as
supplied, I failed.
The staus bar along the bottom showed converting images and this took about
10 seconds.
It then started to convert text. The bar progressed about an inch across the
bottom, then it stopped.
An hour later and it was still stationary.
In the Documents folder, a folder had been created using the same name with
WE2_folder added
There was also a a file with the same name plus WE2_odt
I tried to convert a smaller single page odt file with exactly the same
result.

Using LO 3.5rc3 neither Export as PDF or Writer2epub works on my Mac 10.7.2

I also just tried exporting a small but complex odt (note that I
unchecked Create PDF Form) and simple 24 page doc, and both worked
perfectly.
Where do you find the Create PDF Form? I can only see Export as PDF.

I have write permissions to the folder I put the original in, so it should
take a PDF copy.
