Re: [libreoffice-users] Bullets Numbering

2014-03-22 Thread A

Thank you Kevin, Alex, Tom Steve for responding. Your suggestion
works for the simple case just fine.

I suppose now I have a different yet very related question. The
document is more complex and I can't get it to work right.

Kevin, your articles are helpful, though I admit I skipped the first one.

For example:

1. Level One
a. Level Two
b.
c.
d.
e.
f.
g.
i. Level Three
ii.
h.
i.
j.
k.
2.
3.
4.
a.
b.
5.
etc.

I've tried various things, none of them will give me the above
structure. It refuses to number item 1h (or anything thereafter)
properly. Kevin, I read your article 2 and 3 which are very
informative. But I'm still unable to get it to behave. It will do a
variety of (mostly bizarre) things. At various points it made the h
an a, if I restart numbering, a b, if I continue the previous
numbering an o for some reason, a bullet when I hit enter after g.ii.,
and absolutely nothing at one point. Clearly I'm doing something wrong,
but I'm at a loss as to determine what it is.

Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions.

All,
I wish to say a sincere thank you to all who contributed
suggestions to solving my dilemma.
The below-quoted suggestion of Miroslaw Zalewski is the one that turned

went through all the others; some things were already as suggested, but
when I implemented

this one, the annoying problem 'went away'...
Thank you all; I really feel privileged to be a part of the body of

Mirosław, thank you, your firs sited set of instructions sounds very
promising I'll let you know of any success.

Could not make myself wait until tomorrow - the suggestion of Tools |
Auto Correct Options, etc., was just what was called for.

Thank you so much, all who contributed.
Thankfully, my blood pressure has subsided I'm going to soon have a
'digital copy' of the latest edition of the Constitution By-Laws of
the Grand Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Commonwealth of
Massachusetts. It's sort of one of the Rule Books that constituent
Lodges of the Odd Fellow Fraternal Order must abide by - in this case,
here in Massachusetts. As Secretary of my Lodge, I'm often the first
person a member of my Lodge goes to to get a clearer idea of procedures
 protocol, etc...

Thank you again.

You said something about pasting data from another document. You may try
Edit → Paste Special (or Shift+Ctrl+V) and select Unformatted text. This
should ensure that no information about numbering is copied.

Also, you might have turned on line numbering in document (this is something
other than outline numbering). See Tools → Line numbering.

If none of this helps, can you post your document somewhere on the web, so we
can look at it (this list does not allow attachments)?

[libreoffice-users] Bullets / Numbering in LO

2012-07-25 Thread George E Noon

HI!,
I am using LibreOffice 3.4.5 and am trying to manually copy a set
of Constitution By-Laws of a Fraternal group I'm a Secretary in.
For today, at least, I've had to give up on it --- no matter what I
do, I cannot type in the text as I want it. Somewhere in the program,
Bullets Numbering is turned on by default no matter what I do, I can
not turn that feature [anti-feature, really!]' off.
The net result is that no matter what I do, for making a copy of
this document, LibreOffice seems to worse than useless

I really hope that someone can be of assistance with this.
I would really like to be able to permanently and irrevocably
disable the bullets Numbers as it is by far the greatest annoyance in
this program, and definitely not needed at all, especially when one can
not have in operate the way you want it to, but only the way someone
else wants.

Thank you.

   I so agree;

I so dislike the computer thinking it knows better than me on how to
compose a page, or how to spell, or capitalize ... ... ...

The bullets are in some toolbar; this toolbar can be removed through

This is a feature which can be useful but it can be equally
frustrating if you don't want it - until you learn to control it.

Easy: just go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Options, and remove
the tick from Apply numbering - symbol: *.

No doubt some people like it.

Incidentally, another easy workaround is just to use Edit | Undo (or
Ctrl+Z) *immediately* you see the unwanted correction occur. This
will remove the correction and leave exactly what you typed.

I trust this helps.
