Most publishers have the ability to use/edit a PDF.

what version of LO are you using?
When I do as a "save as" in LO4.0.4.2 I can see .rtf 4th from bottom of
the list of formats.

Actually, I just checked LibreOffice on openSUSE and saw there is an RTF
