Hi,

I have googled repeatedly for this, and found suggestions, but nothing that works. It involves conditional statements in a writer document that is merged with a database, for example:

IF(db.table.name EQ "", We do not have your name, db.table.name) works just fine,

but what I want to do is more like:

IF(db.table.fullname EQ "", We assume your full name is: db.table.firstname db.table.lastname, Your full name is: db.table.fullname)

All these are entered through Insert->Fields->Functions->Conditional Text.

This does not work on a couple of levels. If just

db.table.firstname db.table.lastname

is tried, the code is produced verbatim, i.e. the contents of the fields is not seen, just the string as shown. Furthermore the concatenation of text and a field produces the text and the string "db.table.fieldname."

I have tried concatenation symbols such as "+" "&" and "||". None works. I have also tried single and double quotes on the text and the field description which fails.

Is this not possible or is there a way to do this? For custom letters such concatenations can make things more fluid and personal.

Thanks, Jim
