I got kannel working using a ericsson T28 as SMSC, below is my
configuration. Starting up the bearbox still givs me an error:

the modems.conf file does not have an ericson_t28 setup, but it does
have an ericson_t68 setup, which I don't think can be far off. try to
use that configuration and see if you can send and receive SMs.
But your setup and logs look ok - it seems that your modem is ready to
send and receive, even
