After some more testing I was able to turn on and off the modem multiple
times. So I'm not sure, why this wasn't working on my first try.
Unfortunately I still wasn't able to do calls.

My first tests of Sculpt OS on the PinePhone.
The startup time of the Operating system really impresses me. Not to
wait for the phone for a minute or so after powering on is super cool.
The GUI is really functional and lets me change settings really quick.

Your walk up the hill just to test telephony is really cool. After so
much battling with the modem, I'm positively surprised that the
interaction with the SIM card and phone calls seem to work quite nicely
