Just to be thorough, I've attached the configure and make output for the case
that triggers the issue. I'm configuring with:
./configure --prefix=/opt/depot/openmpi/1.8.4 CC=gcc CXX=g++ FC=gfortran

Sorry, one more question: I don't completely understand the version
numbering, but can/will this fix go into 1.5.1 at some point? I notice
that the trunk is labeled as 1.7.
