[one-users] Re; Snapshots ...

2013-11-20 Thread Gareth Bult
Hi,

It seems that the snapshot facility relies on the libvirt snapshot facility
which at the moment
relies entirely upon the QEMU snapshot facility, which means you can really
only snapshot QCOW
images. Before I start to modify remotes/bmm/kvm/snapshot*, is there a way or
are there any plans
to move snapshot functionality to the drivers such that we can use a custom
snapshot facility on
a per storage facility basis?

Case in point;

At the moment there seems to be a script which does this;

virsh --connect $LIBVIRT_URI snapshot-create-as $DOMAIN (which is QCOW2 only?)

I would like it to be able to handle this;

vdc-tool -n ON_IM_81 --mksnap First Snapshot
  :: Snapshot created [First Snapshot]

vdc-tool -n ON_IM_81 --lssnap
+--+--+--+--+--+
| UniqueID | Snapshot Name| Size | Blocks |

1196295401 |
+--+--+--+--+--+
Number of snapshot blocks used (370404) taking ( 662.53M)
Current committed blocks = 652079
Current blocks (0 ) and current size ( 0.00b)

Obviously the vdc-tool output can be tweaked as necessary .. I would like to be
able to integrate
this into libvirt, but the snapshot API in libvirt appears still to be on the
drawing board whereas
I already have a working / usable snapshot facility ... any thoughts ?

Incidentally, I think I just spotted a bug on the Placement log;

[one-users] Sunstone LDAP and user passwords with special characters

2013-11-20 Thread Alvaro Simon

Dear ON community

We don't know if this is a known issue or not, we are using ON 4.2 and
Sunstone with LDAP support. We have notice that special characters like
white spaces are not working from Sunstone using LDAP auth, we got these
errors:

Wed Nov 20 09:49:10 2013 [E]: User carlosf could not be authenticated
Wed Nov 20 09:49:10 2013 [E]: execution expired
Wed Nov 20 09:49:10 2013 [I]: Unauthorized login attempt

If we change the user pass (without white spaces), sunstone is able to
authenticate the user again.

Have you experienced the same issue? any workaround available?

Thanks in advance!

Dear community,

Continuing the blog post series showcasing the new features in the upcoming
OpenNebula 4.4, we have published a new entry explaining the multiple
system datastore features.

This will allow even more flexibility to configure your storage
infrastructure. Find out how in our blog:
http://blog.opennebula.org/?p=5443

Re: [one-users] Re; Snapshots ...

2013-11-20 Thread Ruben S. Montero
Hi

As you know there are two types of snapshots, system and disk. Disk only
snapshots are handled through the capacity tab in sunstone and eventually
by the CPDS script in the TM. System snapshots are handled by the snapshot
script of VMM.

There are no plans to redesign this, disk snapshotting can use a custom
storage facility through cpds, but system snapshots will be handled
through the hypervisor

Note that system snapshots require also to checkpoint the memory state of
the system, thats the reason for requiring qcow2 in kvm. So I am not really
sure how this two processes, memory and disk snapshot, can be orchestrated
outside of libvirt, maybe libvirt hooks?

About the bug, I am wondering if this is a rendering issue or something
deeper, could you send the output of:

onevm show VM_ID -x

Cheers

Ruben

Re: [one-users] [SOLVED] Re: Context CDROM seen as hard drive

2013-11-20 Thread Carlos Martín Sánchez
Hi,

Right now you can set the CONTEXT/TARGET attribute manually. But we have
been discussing this, and we think we could manage the prefix better:
- Allowing to set CONTEXT/DEV_PREFIX. This can be done now for DISKs and
Images, but not for context.
- Using hd as the default prefix for cdrom disks (and context), ignoring
the dev prefix set in oned.conf

This will probably make it into the final release [1]

I finally found the solution by trying, I set in /etc/one/oned.conf:

 I switch to:

I must admit I'm a bit confused between some settings in /etc/ and some

Ups my mistake, Storage tab I meant... When you save a disk you can do it
live or deferred, deferred is when the VM is shutdown, live calls the cpds
script to copy the disk to the datastore.

 Cheers

2013-11-20 Thread Gareth Bult
Ok, I see that now .. interesting.

I'm wondering how to handle this .. vdc-store snapshots are essentially
catalogue entries rather
than files, so although I can call CPDS to make the snapshot, there doesn't
seem to be any facility
to use a snapshot that's not actually a stand-alone VM store.

.. specifically snapshot delete and snapshot rollback would be the operations
I'd most need.

Also, my idea of snapshots (given there is no overhead) would be to snap every
hour .. in which case
the Images screen on SunStone would fill up very quickly if for example I was
to create a DB entry
for each snapshot ..

Any ideas how best to approach this ??

Gareth.

Ups my mistake, Storage tab I meant... When you save a disk you can do it live
or deferred, deferred is when the VM is shutdown, live calls the cpds script to
copy the disk to the datastore.

Hi Caty,

It seems like OSTEMPLATE value is not set properly. Can you check the

can open it with any text editor.

Then check if disk.0 file is also in that folder. According to your log it

Re: [one-users] Sunstone LDAP and user passwords with special characters

2013-11-20 Thread Steven Timm

We do not use ldap but we have seen a similar issue with opennebula
authentication with X.509 certificates. OpenNebula compresses all the
white space out of the Distinguished Name of the certificate.. I would
not be surprised if it did the same for ldap. As far as I know it is
meant to be a feature. If you are changing the passwd manually with the
oneuser command you have to strip all the whitespace out on your own.

be that even that the configuration is OK libvirt/kvm modules are

[one-users] Performance with system datastore on NFS

2013-11-20 Thread Daniel Dehennin
Hello,

I just finalize the migration our 3.8.3 ONE to 4.2 and was forced to
change my plan to put datastore 0 on NFS4 because of slow accesses.

For non persistent images they use local datastore 0, but persistent
ones use NFS (via the symlink).

All my images are qcow2.

I have a dedicated VLAN for storage access, and my nodes are mounting
the datastores as:

10.255.255.2:/one-datastores on /var/lib/one/datastores type nfs4
(rw,relatime,vers=4,rsize=262144,wsize=262144,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,port=0,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,clientaddr=10.255.255.4,minorversion=0,fsc,local_lock=none,addr=10.255.255.2,_netdev)

I remember seeing a document about different cache scenarios and
performance but I can not remember where.

My setup is a tree nodes ONE:

- one not very powerfull frontend
- two quite powerful nodes to run VMs (core i7 + 16Go RAM)

My storage is what they call “workgroup NAS” with dual gigabit nics
configured in bonding.

I'm wondering about using RAID1+0 instead of the RAID5 to improve disk
access performances and lower CPU usage.

Any hints or idea?

Regards.

Yes, it applies. Also, econe-server and occi-server are missing the
config.ru file, where we should export the var. Are you also deploying
 occi-server with passenger?

No(t) (yet). But I might do that just to have the ability to send the
logs, through apache, to a central logging server (iso 27001
requirements).

Yes they are different, disk-only snapshots are similar to the AWS EC2

OK. Then, we can use the snapshot functionality. These snapshots will be
disk-only, and may need some intervention from the guest (i.e. umount the
volume before reverting its state). The semantics will diverge from the
current one for this implementation. The point for doing this is that we
have the scheduling actions, so you can program opennebula to trigger a
backup at a given time. There is no periodicity, though (this is an
interesting feature, also in our radar...)

 Cheers

the CPDS script in the TM. System snapshots are handled by the snapshot script
of VMM.

There are no plans to redesign this, disk snapshotting can use a custom storage
facility through cpds, but system snapshots will be handled through the
hypervisor

Note that system snapshots require also to checkpoint the memory state of the
system, thats the reason for requiring qcow2 in kvm. So I am not really sure
how this two processes, memory and disk snapshot, can be orchestrated outside
of libvirt, maybe libvirt hooks?

About the bug, I am wondering if this is a rendering issue or something deeper,
could you send the output of:

Re: [one-users] VM is in PROLOG state more than 1 hour

2013-11-20 Thread Documented Facts
No, I don't think there is huge traffic. I have two machines one has front
end and other one has a host with XEN virtualization. Machines doesn't have
hardware virtualization support. Machines are connected via a switch.

I have given how my process to have NFS storage. do you see any wrong there
?.

Thanks

Front-End

   -

   Install NFS Server
-

  sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server
   -

Let others access data store directory
-

  sudo nano /etc/exports
  -

  put in that file bellow
   -

 /var/lib/one 10.*.*.161(rw,async,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash)
  -

  reload services with bellow commands
   -

 $ sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server reload

Hosts

   -

   Install NFS Client
-

  sudo apt-get install nfs-common
   -

configure to access data stores at start up
-

  in /etc/fstab add
   -

 on-front:/var/lib/one /var/lib/one nfs udp,_netdev 0 0
  -

  sudo mount /var/lib/one

After this I can see front end var/lib/one directory from hosts.

[one-users] Template: Cannot select storage, network, schedule servers Cannot read property '4' of null - 4.4 beta 2

2013-11-20 Thread Michael

Hi,

Upgraded to latest 4.4 beta 2 and I'm now unable to manage templates,
can see Images/Networks/Datastores fine in their respective panels but
the ajax that pulls in the data for selection on a template seems to be
broken.
Also getting a Failed to load resource: the server responded with a
status of 503 (Service Unavailable)
http://#ip_address#:9869/service_template?timeout=true; periodically in
the console log, any info I've found so far doesn't seem to apply as
otherwise oned seems to be running fine.

Sunstone log has [OneFlow] Error connecting to server (Connection
refused - connect(2)). Server: localhost:2474 but the only info on that
I can find tells me I need to start one
http://opennebula.org/documentation:community:faq#i_get_a_connection_refused_-_connect_2_error_what_is_the_problem
and check ONE_XMLRPC but looking at the one_xmlrpc.log it seems to be
running fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Michael

[one-users] need to create Flows? for openvswitch-based ONE (4.2) setup -- (passed on ebtables)

2013-11-20 Thread Mark Biggers
Hello ONE team,

I have passed on the ebtables configuration for networking in 4.2 ONE.
We'll need OpenVSwitch anyways to manage the VMs VLANS, so I have moved on.

I *think* I have an almost working OpenVSwitch configuration. Must I manually
create flows for each VM/MAC-addr to enable IP traffic, across the OVS
vbridge (vbr0), in this case?

The info on my new (OVS networking) setup, is included, at the end of this
message. Thank you. (The platform is still openSUSE 12.3 on a Thinkpad
W530...)

Hi vishnu,

I’m not sure how did you create it, but some parameters are not correct.

Please recreate a vm template according to [1] and have a try again.

This is an example template I created using sunstone, for your reference, but
you could not use it directly(NETWORK and IMAGE which it used may not exist in
your environment.

NAME=”ttylinux”

NIC=[NETWORK_ID=0]

CPU=1

CONTEXT=[SSH_PUBLIC_KEY=$USER[SSH_PUBLIC_KEY],NETWORK=YES]

DISK=[IMAGE_ID=0]

GRAPHICS=[LISTEN=0.0.0.0,TYPE=VNC]

MEMORY=512

Good luck.

Hi vishnu,

It’s a SSH passwordless access error. You need to disable ssh strict host key
check[1]

You should first test ssh to onevmhost as oneadmin without any prompts for
confirm.

 Hi Caty,

It seems like OSTEMPLATE value is not set properly. Can you check the
deployment.0 file, it is in your datastore_location/0/vm_number folder.
Post it's entire content, please. It is an ordinary xml file, you can open
 it with any text editor.

Then check if disk.0 file is also in that folder. According to your log it
 is missing.

 Regards,
 Nikita

Re: [one-users] VM in Opennebula for OpenVZ failed

2013-11-20 Thread Nikita Balashov
Hi Caty.

deployment file looks fine, but the driver can't find ostemplate variable
in it. Have you installed the proper driver version, I mean have you done hg
update main-4.2 during install? You can also
check ONE_PATH/remotes/vmm/ovz/deploy file on your frontend and search for
string OSTEMPLATE in it. If you are using the proper version, then there
should be line doc.elements.each('VM/USER_TEMPLATE/OSTEMPLATE') in that
file. In case you are using the old driver, the line would
be doc.elements.each('TEMPLATE/OSTEMPLATE') do |ost|

Nikita

 Help me please.

 Regards, Caty.

According to your log
 it is missing.

 Regards,
 Nikita

 Hi friends, please help me.

 I have done the following:

 1. Opennebula v4.2 works with varios hypervisors KVM, XEN, OpenVZ and Esxi

 2. I made a cluster for openvz node
 oneadmin@ubuntuOpNeb:~$ onecluster show 101

 3. I made two datastores in this cluster:

 oneadmin@ubuntuOpNeb:~$ onedatastore show 104
