Re: [one-users] V4.4 sqlite bug? error: columns vmid, last_poll are not unique

2014-01-09 Thread Tino Vazquez
Hi Gerry,

This is an error message, so it cannot be disabled. A lower monitoring
interval value would help, but the monitoring information won't be as
precise.

About the behaviour you are experiencing, the VM is not being
monitored because it is not running, but rather in the failed state.
Check the VM log (var/log/one/vid.log), where vid is the id of the
failed vm (2 in this case).

 Hi Sven,

A minor bug may be preventing the correct monitorization of the host.
I will appreciate it if you could modify the file
 /var/lib/one/remotes/vmm/vmware/vi_driver.rb, line 402:

 str_info DS=[ID=#{k},USED_MB=#{used_space},

 with

 str_info DS=[ID=\#{k}\,USED_MB=#{used_space},

Please let me know if this fixes the issue, I will then upload a patch
into the repository to fix this in future releases.

 Best regards,

Hi Gerry,

You can set it in /etc/one/oned.conf,

MONITORING_INTERVAL=10

The default is 10 seconds. You need to restart OpenNebula after making

I originally gave the controller a 20GB disk via vmware, but because I

Is your partition using all that new disk space? If you are using the fs
drivers, the space is monitored with the df and du commands.

You were right about this, I will try to expand the partion.

Also, another question, when I delete an Image(from sunstone) it is
removed from images.. but the space is still taken from the datastore(I ls

 Should I manually delete it?

OpenNebula should delete the files. Do you have any error messages about
 the image deletion in oned.log?

Unfortunately I have no errors in the oned.log, but I can't succesfully
download large images from the datastore.
 I tried ubuntu13.10-vdc(514MB) and I get:

[one-users] Dynamically resize disk size with templates

2014-01-09 Thread Tobias Brunner

Hi,

The Ubuntu Cloud Images are able to resize themself during the first
boot if the default size of 2GB is changed. Could this process be used
to dynamically resize the images size with a template variable? It would
be very nice because you just need to save the image once and the set
the disk size using the template (just like how much ram, cpu, ... is
assigned).

 Hi Gareth,

When you define an image in a disk you can use:
 a) IMAGE_ID
 b) IMAGE IMAGE_UNAME

In your template both options are defined and each one points to a
different IMAGE. To fix this, open the advanced section of the storage tab
in the update wizard and remove the content of the IMAGE_ID input. This
 should fix the problem.

[one-users] Closing OpenNebula 4.4 Cycle, Planning for 4.6

2014-01-09 Thread Tino Vazquez
Dear users,

Having released OpenNebula 4.4 Retina and closed its release cycle, it
is time to open a new one for the next release.

We have identified the issues [1] (bugs + features) we deem important
for the release, and we have including in that list the features that
didn't make it in OpenNebula 4.4 in the end.

As discussed with the OpenNebula Conf attendees (see? you need to come
next year ;) ), we want to give our users the chance to shape the
roadmap for the upcoming OpenNebula 4.6. We invite you to submit your
comments on the roadmap via email (ideally within this thread, but
feel free to open a new one if you think it is necessary to discuss
any particular topic). This valuable input will be used to shape the
short-term roadmap with the features that will be part of the release
cycle.

The ideal process of the discussion would be for any person interested
in discussing a feature request to search first if there is already a
similar one in the OpenNebula development portal [2]. If no similar
request is found, please open one describing as best as you can what
feature you have in mind, and let us know in this mailing list so we
know there is interest and we need to shape the roadmap to accommodate
it. If you find a similar request, read through the proposed approach
and let us know if you agree on it. If not, please put a comment in
the feature request explaining your concern, and let us know as well
here.

We plan to close this discussion next Thursday, 16th, EOB.

It goes without saying that the more interest we see on a feature,
more priority it will have in the short-term roadmap.

Tino, on behalf of the OpenNebula Team

Re: [one-users] Closing OpenNebula 4.4 Cycle, Planning for 4.6

2014-01-09 Thread Tobias Brunner

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for letting the community participate on the roadmap
planning!

For me there are two features important, which are already described on
the development portal:

#2568 Support for RBD Format 2 images
---
I have already tested the attached patch on version 4.4 and it just
works great. VM provisioning using this method is A LOT faster than with
Format 1 images, like lightning speed.

#1727 Patch for one.image.resize to resize image
--
I'd like to specify the target image size in the template.
The Ubuntu Cloud Images are able to resize themself during the first
boot (see http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/cloud-initramfs-growroot,
installed by default on the cloud images). So you just need the original
image (which is 2GB) and specify the size you need in the template. This
is mainly very useful for the public cloud interface where you could
provide some templates to the users which specifies not only the ram
size and cpu count, but also the image size. So you don't have to
prepare an image for every size you'd like to provide.

Other ideas and votes
-
To extend the public cloud capabilities, a customer management and
billing interface (think of oneacct extended to the webinterface)
would be a nice feature I'd like to see in the future.
Better handling of VMs which are stopped by the user from inside the VM
(f.e. shutdown -h now) would make admins life easier.
I also vote for the following Redmine tickets assigned to Release 4.6
target version:

* #2453 Add hostname configuration to contexualization
* #1818 Support for IP reservations

Looking forward to comments on my ideas.

Cheers,
Tobias

[one-users] OpenNebula node package broke sudo?

2014-01-09 Thread Bradfield, James
Ran the yum package installer for opennebula-node-kvm on a remote RHEL 6 box
last thing yesterday before leaving, finished the install, and logged out.
Logged back into the same machine today and got the following error dump
whenever I tried to use sudo:

sudo: /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_MISC' already defined near line
4
sudo: /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_NET' already defined near line
4
sudo: /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_LVM' already defined near line
4
sudo: /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_ISCSI' already defined near
line 4
sudo: /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_OVS' already defined near line

sudo: /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_XEN' already defined near line
4
sudo: parse error in /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula near line 4
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin

Clearly some duplicate definitions got created during the install process (not
sure how, I’m like 99% sure these machines didn't have OpenNebula on them at
any point before); unfortunately, I can’t sudo to fix it (since sudo is broken,
obviously), don’t have the root password, and can't boot recovery since it’s a
remote box (and I can't reboot the box from command line anyway since I don't
have sudo). I’ve contacted the local IT guy who should be able to fix it
easily, but I groused about it on Twitter and got asked to send this into the
mailing list, so here you go.

2014-01-09 Thread Nikita Balashov
 Hi all,

Feature #1727 Patch for one.image.resize to resize image is also useful
for OpenVZ images as it also allows to specify image size on deploy.

Nikita
