[one-users] 4.8 with vSphere single node datastores

2014-09-15 Thread Stan Yarbrough
I've just finished putting together a lab/POC with a single node and a few 5.5
hosts. I have mounted the NFS datastores 0 and 1 on each host and ssh is
working. The hosts have status on etc. However, the datastores appear empty
and VMs will not instantiate. I guess I do not really understand why these
datastores are set to /vmfs/volumes and are also mounted. Perhaps I am mixing
methods. I would like to use the esx datastores only and the front end just
for staging.

I've tried the ssh transfer method and the vmfs method. Neither seems to work
and I'm getting cert prompts on the terminal console. I've checked ssh with
one admin and it logs into esx without issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would go with OpenvSwitch. It's easy to setup and you can do stuff
(vlan trunking) that is very difficult to set up the traditional way.
If at all possible, use different nic's to seperate storage, uplink
and management/migration traffic. To add redundancy/capacity you can
use bonds (port channels). I can post some openvswitch setup commands if
 you want.

Hi

It seems that the size of an address range is limited to an unsigned int so
giving you an effective size of 2^32 instead of 2^64. I'll open an issue to
address this:

http://dev.opennebula.org/issues/3188

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers

Am I missing something here? The manual doesn't help me in this instance.

Hi Stan,

In order to configure correctly OpenNebula to use storage datastores,
the steps are:

 - Mount (as you did) datastores in the ESX hosts as 0 (system
datastore) and 1 (image datastore)
 - Configure OpenNebula to use these datastores:

  - If the installation is only to manage VMware ESX hosts, then
change oned.conf to reflect DATASTORE_BASE_PATH = /vmfs/volumes

 - Change drivers of 0 and 1 datastores to vmfs (the only
acceptable drivers for VMware datastore management)

 - Update image datastore (ID=1) so the BRIDGE_LIST pointing to at
least one ESX hypervisor with the 1 image datastore mounted

Images are registered pointing PATH to a folder containing the .vmdk
file. Hosts are added with the vmware drivers (need to be enabled in
oned.conf)

As a reference, you can follow the quick start guide:

Hello,

I'm trying to switch to the cloud view but I think some things are missing.

I would like to enable:

- the “Snapshots” tab

actually only
see IPs

+ list of storage with possibility to attach new ones

- the “Actions” tab

I don't find how to do in the documentation.

Any hints?

[one-users] Adding network interface doesn't change vm context

2014-09-15 Thread Marcin Stolarek
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Guys,
I've noticed that when a network interface is added to running VM,
this doesn't change VM context, so even if VM is restarted this
network interface isn't configured via contextualization mechanism.

Should it be considered a bug? Where should I look to patch this issue?

I believe that there is a shell script which executes appropriate
commands on my physical host to add a network interface to vm, maybe
it's possible to add context modification to this script?
It won't change context of running machine, but in case of restart the
context will be changed and NIC configured appropriately.

cheers,
marcin
