Is it time for an upgrade? The definition of DONE! OpenStack Foundation
announces the 21st version of the most widely deployed open source cloud
infrastructure software! And we send off our OpenStack Community Liaison
with love. Welcome to RDO Project's May 2020 Newsletter.
Housekeeping ItemsAll Your Repos Are Belong To Us

Ocata and Pike are in the Extended Maintenance Phase
<https://releases.openstack.org/> for more than a year now, The promotion
jobs <https://review.rdoproject.org/r/#/q/topic:remove_pike> used to test
these repos were dropped long ago
<http://rdoproject.org/newsletter/2020/may/>
https://review.rdoproject.org/r/#/c/16485/. Now we are planning to drop the
Okata <http://trunk.rdoproject.org/centos7-ocata/> and Pike
<http://trunk.rdoproject.org/centos7-pike/> trunk repos by the first week
of June 2020. We have already stopped building new commits
<https://softwarefactory-project.io/r/#/c/18347/> for both repos.

If anyone is still using these repos, please consider an upgrade to queens
or any later releases. If something is blocking you from an upgrade or
migration away from ocata or pike, please respond to this email thread
<https://lists.rdoproject.org/pipermail/dev/2020-May/009380.html> so we may
consider it before June.
RDO ChangesWhat’s Done is Done

For the past few releases, we’ve been waiting until the trailing projects
TripleO <https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/TripleO> and Kolla
<https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Kolla> were completed and published before
sending out the official Release Announcement. Once upon a time, we
officially posted the technical definition of done
<https://blogs.rdoproject.org/2016/05/technical-definition-of-done/> for
the Mitaka release and we’ve decided in the RDO Community meeting yesterday
to officially incorporate a ‘definition of done’ for each release cycle in
the future starting with Ussuri <https://docs.openstack.org/ussuri/>.

To that end, the RDO Project agrees that before announcing a new release to
the community formally, the following specific criteria must be confirmed
within the CloudSIG builds:

   - The three packstack all-in-one upstream scenarios can be executed
   successfully.
   - The four puppet-openstack-integration scenarios can be executed
   successfully.
   - TripleO container images can be built.
   - TripleO standalone scenario001 can be deployed with the containers
   from CloudSIG builds.

This also needs to be completed before the next major event following the
OpenStack release. In the case of Ussuri, since announcements cannot happen
on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, the announcement will happen no later
than Thursday, 28 May because the virtual PTG is 01-05 June. This criteria
has been agreed for Ussuri GA and may be updated for next releases. If you
would like to contribute, comment or commend this change, please feel free
to join us on Wednesdays at 14:00 UTC for the weekly *RDO community meeting*
 on Freenode IRC channel #RDO.
Community NewsWe Wish You All The Best

RDO Project’s OpenStack Community Liaison, Rain Leander, is leaving Red Hat
and the RDO Project as a technical community manager. In their own words,
“this is not actually a good bye. ASIDE: I’m terrible at goodbyes. This is
“I’ll See You Around”. Because the next chapter is within open source.
Within cloud computing. Within edge. And while I absolutely cannot wait to
tell you about it, this is not the time for looking forward, but for
looking back. This is a time for celebrating the past. For thanking my
beautiful collaboraters. Maybe for shedding a tear or two. Definitely for
expressing those difficult emotions. I love you, RDO Project. Thank you.
And I'll see you around.”
Community Meetings

Every Tuesday at 13:30 UTC, we have a weekly *TripleO CI community meeting*
on https://meet.google.com/bqx-xwht-wky with the agenda on
https://hackmd.io/IhMCTNMBSF6xtqiEd9Z0Kw. The TripleO CI meeting focuses on
a group of people focusing on Continuous Integration tooling and system who
would like to provide a comprehensive testing framework that is easily
reproducible for TripleO contributors. This framework should also be
consumable by other CI systems (OPNFV, RDO, vendor CI, etc.), so that
TripleO can be tested the same way everywhere. This is NOT a place for
TripleO usage questions, rather, check out the next meeting listed just
below.

Every Tuesday at 14:00 UTC, immediately following the TripleO CI meeting is
the weekly *TripleO Community meeting* on the #TripleO channel on Freenode
IRC. The agenda for this meeting is posted each week in a public etherpad
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/tripleo-meeting-items>. This is for
addressing anything to do with TripleO, including usage, feature requests,
and bug reports.

Every Wednesday at 14:00 UTC, we have a weekly *RDO community m

Housekeeping Items Welcome to RDO Docs Days

The next RDO Docs Days will be 17-21 February - just after Ussuri milestone
2! We periodically run Docs Days - encouraging people to improve the
documentation and the website by spending an hour or two looking for
errors, outdated information, or anything else that could be better.

Goals for a docs day include:

   - Knock out as many of the open issues
   <https://github.com/redhat-openstack/website/issues> as possible.
   - Identify docs that are outdated, and/or refer to end-of-lifed releases.
   - Consolidate duplicate docs.
   - Improve the test day instructions
<https://www.rdoproject.org/testday/tests/>, so that people don't have
   to be experts to participate.

Meanwhile, you can always work on the open issues
<https://github.com/redhat-openstack/website/issues>.
RDO Changes Have You Heard of OpenStack Commons?

OpenShift Commons builds connections and collaboration across OpenShift
communities, projects and stakeholders. In doing so, they enable the
success of customers, users, partners, and contributors as they deepen
knowledge and experiences together.

These goals go beyond code contributions. Commons is a place for companies
using OpenShift to accelerate its success and adoption. Commons acts as
resources for everyone, sharing best practices and providing a forum for
peer-to-peer communication.

We’d like to do the same for OpenStack!

We started this process with the relaunch of the OpenShift on OpenStack
Special Interest Group
<https://commons.openshift.org/sig/OpenshiftOpenstack.html> at Red Hat
Summit 2019 in order to discuss, develop and disseminate best practices for
deploying and managing OpenShift on OpenStack.

This year, on 26 April 2020, just before Red Hat Summit 2020, for the first
time, there will be an OpenStack track at OpenShift Commons
<https://commons.openshift.org/>. If you’re interested in attending and /
or participating, please reach out to Rain Leander, leanderthal on Freenode
irc, or directly via rain at redhat dot com.

And our ultimate goal in the near future is to launch *OpenStack Commons*,
to bring users, partners, customers, and contributors together to
collaborate and work on OpenStack.
Community News Community Meetings

Every Wednesday at 14:00 UTC, we have a weekly *RDO community meeting* on
the #RDO channel on Freenode IRC. The agenda for this meeting is posted
each week in a public etherpad
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/RDO-Meeting> and the minutes from the
meeting are posted on the RDO website
<https://www.rdoproject.org/community/community-meeting/>. If there's
something you'd like to see happen in RDO - a package that is missing, a
tool that you'd like to see included, or a change in how things are
governed - this is the best time and place to help make that happen.

Every Thursday at 15:00 UTC, there is a weekly *CentOS Cloud SIG meeting*
on the #centos-devel channel on Freenode IRC. The agenda for this meeting
is posted each week in a public etherpad
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/centos-cloud-sig> and the minutes from
the meeting are posted on the RDO website
<https://www.rdoproject.org/contribute/cloud-sig-meeting/>. This meeting
makes sense for people that are involved in packaging OpenStack for CentOS
and for people that are packaging OTHER cloud infra things (OpenNebula,
CloudStack, Euca, etc) for CentOS. “Alone we can do so little; together we
can do so much.” - Helen Keller

2020-01-29 Thread Rain Leander
Hello RDO Community!

A few of us will be reviewing the website to identify docs that reference
EOL'd versions, docs which need other updates, and new docs that we feel
need to be written. If you have a little time next week, we'd be super
chuffed if you can join us.

testing on your own ahead of time, that will help ensure that everyone
isn't encountering the same problems.

We will also be available for people that want to try the stable (Train)
release.

If you're keen to help set up and / or test and / or anything else, please
reach out to me directly or reply to this email.

Do you hear that whistle? ALL ABOARD!! This month we're celebrating the
release of the latest OpenStack RDO release cycle, Train, diving head first
into the next release cycle, Ussuri, and zooming off to Shanghai in the
process.
Items Are You Attending Project Teams Gathering in Shanghai? We Want To
Hear From YOU!

Rain Leander is attending Open Infrastructure Summit and Project Teams
Gathering in Shanghai and will conduct interviews on Friday 08 November in
room Liberty
<http://mailstat.us/tr/t/l7zu7avdk2g9i43p/3/https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XwRC_nHm2hZs37Hlrb5fUl4zGtOGgekj1oHaGn3TBxA/edit?usp=sharing>.
If you're keen and able, she'd love to talk with you.

These interviews have several purposes. Please consider all of the
following when thinking about what you might want to say in your interview:

   - Tell the users/customers/press what you've been working on in Train
   - Give them some idea of what's (what might be?) coming in Ussuri
   - Put a human face on the OpenStack project and encourage new
   participants to join us
   - You're welcome to promote your company's involvement in OpenStack but
we ask that you avoid any kind of product pitches or job recruitment

In the interview I'll ask some leading questions and it'll go easier if
you've given some thought to them ahead of time:

   - Who are you? (Your name, your employer, and the project(s) on which
   you are active.)
   - What did you accomplish in Train? (Focus on the 2-3 things that will
be most interesting to cloud operators)
   - What do you expect to be the focus in Ussuri? (At the time of your
interview, it may be that the meetings will not yet have decided anything
   firm. That's ok.)
   - Anything further about the project(s) you work on or the OpenStack
   community in general.

Finally, note that there are only 15 interview slots available, so please
consider coordinating with your project to designate the people that you
want to represent the project, so that we don't end up with 12 interview
about Neutron, or whatever. It's fine to have multiple people in one
interview - Maximum 3, probably.

Interview slots are 30 minutes, in which time we hope to capture somewhere
between 10 and 20 minutes of content. It's fine to run shorter, but 15
minutes is probably an ideal length.

All work on RDO and on the downstream release, Red Hat OpenStack Platform,
is 100% open source, with all code changes going upstream first.

PLEASE NOTE: At this time, RDO Train provides packages for CentOS7 only. We
plan to move RDO to use CentOS8 as soon as possible during Ussuri

*The Next Release Cycle*
At the end of one release, focus shifts immediately to the next, Ussuri,
which has an estimated GA the week of 11-15 May 2020. The full schedule is
available at https://releases.openstack.org/ussuri/schedule.html.

Twice during each release cycle, RDO hosts official Test Days
<http://rdoproject.org/testday/> shortly after the first and third
milestones; therefore, the upcoming test days are 19-20 December 2019 for
Milestone One and 16-17 April 2020 for Milestone Three.

*Get Started*
There are three ways to get started with RDO.

To spin up a proof of concept cloud, quickly, and on limited hardware, try
an All-In-One Packstack <http://rdoproject.org/install/packstack/>
installation. You can run RDO on a single node to get a feel for how it
works.

For a production deployment of RDO, use the TripleO Quickstart
<http://rdoproject.org/tripleo/> and you’ll be running a production cloud
in short order.

Finally, for those that don’t have any hardware or physical resources,
there’s the OpenStack Global Passport Program
<https://www.openstack.org/passport/>. This is a collaborative effort
between OpenStack public cloud providers to let you experience the freedom,
performance and interoperability of open source infrastructure. You can
quickly and easily gain access to OpenStack infrastructure via trial
programs from participating OpenStack public cloud providers around the
world.

*Get Help*
The RDO Project participates in a Q service at https://ask.openstack.org.
We also have our users@lists.rdoproject.org for RDO-specific users and
operrators. For more developer-oriented content we recommend joining the
d...@lists.rdoproject.org mailing list. Remember to post a brief
introduction about yourself and your RDO story. The mailing lists archives
are all available at https://mail.rdoproject.org. You can also find
extensive documentation on RDOproject.org <http://rdoproject.org/>.

The #rdo channel on Freenode IRC is also an excellent place to find and
give help.

We also welcome comments and requests on the CentOS devel mailing list
<https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos-devel> and the CentOS and
TripleO IRC channels (#centos, #centos-devel, and #tripleo on
irc.freenode.net), however we have a more focused audience within the RDO
venues.

*Get Involved*
To get involved in the OpenStack RPM packaging effort, check out the RDO
contribute pages <http://rdoproject.org/contribute/>, peruse the CentOS
Cloud SIG page <https://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Cloud>, and
inhale the RDO packaging documentation
<https://www.rdoproject.org/documentation/rdo-packaging/>.

Join us in #rdo and #tripleo on the Freenode IRC network and follow us on
Twitter @RDOCommunity <https://twitter.com/rdocommunity>. You can also find
us on Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/rdocommunity/> and YouTube

2019-10-30 Thread Rain Leander
Hey there!

If you’re getting this it’s because I think you’re part of the RDO and / or
Ansible communities and might be interested in a social event at
OpenInfrastructure Summit and Project Teams Gathering Shanghai. Mostly
we’re just looking to get everyone together for some free beer and food to
celebrate the latest RDO release, Train.

Feel free to forward this invite and spread the word. It should be a great
evening of RDO and Ansible. Thanks!

2019-10-28 Thread Rain Leander
The following are the meetups I'm aware of over the next two weeks where
OpenStack and/or RDO enthusiasts are likely to be present. If you know of
others, please let me know, and/or add them to http://rdoproject.org/events

If there's a meetup in your area, it'd be super keen if you attended, took
a few pictures and especially wrote up a summary of what was covered. And,
as always, if you give me enough notice, I can send swag along with you.

[rdo-users] Open Infrastructure Summit Shanghai Call For Booth Volunteers!

2019-10-24 Thread Rain Leander
Hello Stackers!

We are gearing up for Open Infrastructure Summit Shanghai[0] where we'll
have our regular presence within the Red Hat booth. Our booth presence is
substantially smaller at this event, so we will NOT be doing any community
demos, BUT!

We're looking for people to spend their precious free time answering
questions[1] at the RDO booth. If you're attending, please consider
spending one or more of your free moments with us.

Questions run the gamut from "What's RDO?" to "I found a bug in Neutron and
need help troubleshooting it." Of course, you're not expected to know
everything and you can always keep IRC open to access the RDO Community for
help! Plus, you get cool stuff! If you show up for three or more shifts,
we're going to hook you up with an RDO hoodie.

Reach out to Rain Leander on IRC (leanderthal) or email me directly for
more information.

*This is not the official announcement you’re looking for.*

We’re doing something a little different this cycle – we’re waiting for
some of the “cycle-trailing”
<https://releases.openstack.org/reference/release_models.html#cycle-trailing>
projects that we’re particularly keen about, like TripleO
<https://docs.openstack.org/tripleo-docs/latest/developer/release.html> and
Kolla
<https://docs.openstack.org/kolla/latest/contributor/release-management.html>,
to finish their push BEFORE we make the official announcement.
Photo by Denis Chick on Unsplash

Deployment and lifecycle-management tools generally want to follow the
release cycle, but because they rely on the other projects being completed,
they may not always publish their final release at the same time as those
projects. To that effect, they may choose the cycle-trailing release model
<https://docs.openstack.org/project-team-guide/release-management.html#trailing-the-common-cycle>
.

Cycle-trailing projects are given an extra three months after the final
release date to request publication of their release. They may otherwise
use intermediary releases or development milestones.

While we’re super hopeful that these cycle trailing projects will be
uploaded to the CentOS mirror before OpenInfrastructure Summit Shanghai
<https://www.openstack.org/summit/shanghai-2019>, we’re going to do the
official announcement just before the Summit with or without the packages.

We’ve got a lot of people to thank!

Do you like that we’re waiting a bit for our cycle trailing projects or
would you prefer the official announcement as soon as the main projects are
available? Let us know in the comments and we may adjust the process for
future releases!

In the meantime, keep an eye here or on the mailing lists
<https://lists.rdoproject.org/mailman/listinfo> for the official
announcement COMING SOON!

[rdo-users] OpenInfra Summit Denver AND Red Hat Summit Booth Duty

2019-04-10 Thread Rain Leander
Hello everyone!

We're looking for people to spend their precious free time answering
questions at the Community booth at the OpenInfra Summit in Denver [0] AND
at the Red Hat Summit in Boston [1]. If you're attending either (or BOTH!),
please consider spending a few of your free moments with us. Questions run
the gamut from "What's RDO?" to "I found a bug in Neutron and need help
troubleshooting it."

Of course, you're not expected to know everything and you can always keep
IRC open to access the RDO Community for help! Plus, you get cool stuff! If
you sign up for three or more shifts, we're going to hook you up with an
RDO hoodie.

And, yes, we'd love to see your demo! Demos may be live or pre-recorded,
but only one demo per shift, so if you're keen, please put an asterix by
your name.

Reach out to me on IRC (leanderthal) or reply directly for more information.

Hello everyone,

Like the last year(s), the OpenStack community has a booth during
FOSDEM in Brussels!

Everyone is welcome to come by, and a little help by taking a shift at
our stand would be super appreciated!

I've written the event's details in an Etherpad [0].

This year is a little different, as the booth will have more topics
than usual:
- We are now welcoming distributions to talk about their way to
distribute OpenStack. You could see RDO information there, for example.
- We will have marketing material for the OpenInfrastructure pilot
projects too.

I look forward to see you there!

Regards,
Jean-Philippe Evrard (evrardjp)

applicants, and gearing up for OpenStack Summit Berlin.
Housekeeping Items Volunteers Needed for the RDO Booth at OpenStack Summit
Berlin

We are gearing up for OpenStack Summit Berlin
<https://www.openstack.org/summit/berlin-2018/> where we'll have our
regular presence within the Red Hat booth. This fall we'll continue the
ManageIQ / RDO demo we started last year and we'd love to see your demos,
too! If you've got something you'd like to demo via video OR LIVE because
you're not afraid of ANYTHING, sign up
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/rdo-vancouver-summit-booth>.

We're also looking for people to spend their precious free time answering
questions <https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/berlin-summit-community-pod> at
the RDO booth. If you're attending, please consider spending one or more of
your free moments with us. Questions run the gamut from "What's RDO?" to "I
found a bug in Neutron and need help troubleshooting it." Of course, you're
not expected to know everything and you can always keep IRC open to access
the RDO Community for help! Plus, you get cool stuff! If you show up for
three or more shifts, we're going to hook you up with an RDO hoodie.

Reach out to Rain Leander on IRC (leanderthal) or email (r...@redhat.com)
for more information.
RDO Changes The OpenStack RPM-packaging Project

Javier Pena started a discussion on the dev mailing list regarding our
involvement in the rpm-packaging project
<https://github.com/openstack/rpm-packaging>, specifically regarding how we
collaborate with people from other rpm-based distributions. We have been
successful in reusing some tools
<https://github.com/openstack/pymod2pkg> created
by that project <https://github.com/openstack/renderspec> but we've never
been able to reuse the spec file templates generated by the project,
besides openstack-macros and some python 3 tests done during the Rocky
cycle.

As a community, we need to decide what we want our involvement in the
project to be:

   - Only get involved in the tooling side, if we have no plans to reuse
the spec templates in the future.
   - Try a deeper integration with the specs.
   - Other alternatives?

Each option will carry its own consequences, e.g. if we stop contributing
to the spec templates we should stop the 3rd party CI jobs and VMs that
support them. The conversation continues on the dev list
<https://lists.rdoproject.org/pipermail/dev/2018-September/008901.html>,
but we’d like to make a decision shortly.

If you’re keen, please join us at the weekly community meeting on #rdo on
Freenode irc. Or reply directly on the dev mailing list
<https://lists.rdoproject.org/mailman/listinfo/dev>.

Community Meetings

Every Wednesday at 15:00 UTC, we have the weekly RDO community meeting on
the #RDO channel on Freenode IRC. The agenda for this meeting is posted
each week in a public etherpad
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/RDO-Meeting> and the minutes from the
meeting are posted on the RDO website
<https://www.rdoproject.org/community/community-meeting/>. If there's
something you'd like to see happen in RDO - a package that is missing, a
tool that you'd like to see included, or a change in how things are
governed - this is the best time and place to help make that happen.

Every Thursday at 15:00 UTC, there is a weekly *CentOS Cloud SIG meeting*
on the #centos-devel channel on Freenode IRC. The agenda for this meeting
is posted each week in a public etherpad
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/centos-cloud-sig> and the minutes from
the meeting are posted on the RDO website
<https://www.rdoproject.org/contribute/cloud-sig-meeting/>. This meeting
makes sense for people that are involved in packaging OpenStack for CentOS
and for people that are packaging OTHER cloud infra thingies (OpenNebula,
CloudStack, Euca, etc) for CentOS. “Alone we can do so little; together we
can do so much.” - Helen Keller

[rdo-users] RDO Rocky M3 Test Days and Test Days Frequency

2018-08-02 Thread Rain Leander
Hello all:

Over the past two RDO Community meetings [0], we've discussed the pros and
cons of having fewer official test days. Traditionally, we aim to conduct a
set of Test Days the Thursday / Friday after every official milestone based
on the upstream schedule [1] - thus M1, M2, M3, and GA. It was proposed and
accepted that we have fewer test days - M2 and GA - starting now, which
means this week's Test Days Rocky M3 is cancelled.

However, GA is 27-31 August which means that RDO's Rocky GA is normally the
following Thursday / Friday [2]. As this is the week before OpenStack PTG
[3], I propose we shift our Rocky GA Test Days to Wednesday / Thursday [4].

As always, I'm super keen for your input / opinions / questions regarding
this; please don't hesitate to reply to this thread and contribute to this
decision.

[rdo-users] Rocky Milestone 2 RDO Test Days 14-15 June

2018-06-07 Thread Rain Leander
Who’s up for a rematch?

Rocky Milestone 2 is here and we’re ready to rumble! Join RDO [0] on June
14 &
15 for an awesome time of taking down bugs and fighting errors in the most
recent release [1].

We won’t be pulling any punches.

Want to get in on the action? We’re looking for developers, users,
operators, quality engineers, writers, and, yes, YOU. If you’re reading
this, we think you’re a champion and we want your help!

We’ll have packages for the following platforms:
* RHEL 7
* CentOS 7

You’ll want a fresh install with latest updates installed so that there’s no
hard-to-reproduce interactions with other things.

We’ll be collecting feedback, writing up tickets, filing bugs, and answering
questions.

Even if you only have a few hours to spare, we’d love your help taking this
new version for a spin to work out any kinks. Not only will this help
identify
issues early in the development process, but you can be the one of the first
to cut your teeth on the latest versions of your favorite deployment methods
like TripleO, PackStack, and Kolla.

Interested? We’ll be gathering on #rdo (on Freenode IRC) for any associated
questions / discussions, and working through the “Does it work?” tests [2].

Like Rocky said, “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows,” but with your
help, we can keep moving forward and make the RDO world better for those
around us. Hope to see you on the 14th & 15th!

OpenStack Technical Committee Election Results

Congratulations to the 7 newly elected members of the Rocky Technical
Committee (TC)! With this round of elections, we welcomed Thierry Carrez,
Chris Dent, Sean McGinnis, Davanum Srinivas, Zane Bitter, Graham Hayes, and
Mohammed Naser.

Want more information? View the full election results

Interested in how the TC has worked in the past? Check out the retrospective

the last 6 months, recently posted on the OpenStack-dev mailing list.
Recent and Upcoming EventsRed Hat Summit

With how busy the rest of May has been, it seems like Red Hat Summit (May
7-9) was a lifetime ago! From demo’ing our cross-team hardware project
<https://twitter.com/rainleander/status/991047862543962118> (hat tip to
ManageIQ & Ceph for the collaboration!) to attending amazing talks and of
course giving out the classic RDO ducks
<https://twitter.com/manageiq/status/994266142561550336>, it was a
fantastic 3 days.

Special thanks to Molly Kepley and our small army of RDO community
volunteers (huge shout out to Carol Chen, Brett Niver, Michael Hackett,
Vikhyat Umrao, John Wilkins, Sébastien Han, T. Nichole Williams, and Ju
Lim) who held down the fort at the RDO booth throughout the Summit.
SuperSec 2018

Pablo Iranzo <https://iranzo.github.io/>, PSME on OpenStack Support,
recently presented on Citellus <https://citellus.org/> at SuperSec 2018
<https://supersec.es/> in Almería, Spain. The presentation was part of
SuperSec 2018, a Congress on Secure Software Development, where the focus
was on all the security implications on software, from a legal point of
view, to coding, best practices, and of course, lifecycle, where Citellus
was a fit.

Citellus analyzes known issues on systems based on simple-to-write tests.
It’s created by Red Hat and available in github for use and contribution.
It has been used by several teams to quickly detect known issues and reduce
fix time or give proactive insights on what could happen in the future. It
not only works in Red Hat products, but with upstream versions like RDO,
CentOS, and Fedora, and also has some initial support for running on
Debian, Arch Linux, etc, on top of the regular RHEL6, 7 and RHOSP support
(among others).

You can find the slides from Pablo’s talk on Github
<https://github.com/citellusorg/citellus/blob/master/doc/supersec2018-presentation-ES.md>
and keep an eye on his blog
<https://iranzo.github.io/blog/2018/05/13/supersec/> for a recording of the
talk.
OpenStack Summit Vancouver

OpenStack Summit (May 21-24) quickly followed Red Hat Summit and we again
had an amazing group of volunteers who helped staff the RDO booth: Haïkel
Guémar, Carol Chen, Leo Vaz, Dan Sneddon, T. Nichole Williams, Michael
Turek, David Simard, Victoria Martínez de la Cruz, and Rodrigo Freire.

Haïkel was our amazing RDO ambassador and wrote out a lovely summary of the
week:
https://blogs.rdoproject.org/2018/06/rdo-duck-adventures-at-the-vancouver-openstack-summit/
.

We recreated the awesome hardware demo with ManageIQ and Ceph, which proved
to be a big hit, and had an amazing time hanging out with the Ceph crew
<https://twitter.com/JenInnovate/status/999463166764609536> for an evening
of tech and community.

As always, the RDO ducks
<https://twitter.com/JenInnovate/status/999001254389936128> were a big
attraction <https://twitter.com/hguemar/status/999409253768024064> and went
on a few adventures
<https://twitter.com/danvanderster/status/100125909740768> of their
own, both during <https://twitter.com/hguemar/status/999076975699513349> and
after the conference!

Be sure to keep an eye out for more details about RDO’s presence at OpenStack
Summit Berlin <https://www.openstack.org/summit/berlin-2018/>, Nov 13-15,
and OpenStack Summit 2019 in Denver.

Can you believe it's May ALREADY?!? We've had our first round of RDO Rocky
M1 Test Days, prepped for OpenStack Days Vancouver, taken our first steps
in getting Power TripleO Containers, and so much more. I can't wait to see
what we do NEXT!
Housekeeping Items DEMOS Needed for the RDO Booth at OpenStack Summit
Vancouver

We are gearing up for OpenStack Summit Vancouver where we'll have our
regular presence within the Red Hat booth. This spring we'll continue the
ManageIQ / RDO demo we started last year (NOW WITH MORE CEPH!) and we'd
love to see your demos, too! If you've got something you'd like to demo via
video OR LIVE because you're not afraid of ANYTHING, sign up
<https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/rdo-vancouver-summit-booth>.

And, of course, you ALSO get cool stuff! If you DEMO or otherwise hang out
with us for three or more shifts, we're going to hook you up with an RDO
hoodie. Reach out to Rain Leander on IRC (leanderthal) or email (
r...@redhat.com) for more information.
RDO Changes We Want YOU! To Go To OpenStack Days

There are EIGHT OpenStack Days
<https://www.openstack.org/community/events/openstackdays> coming up around
the world and we want to send you to represent RDO! If you’ve ever been
interested in attending an OpenStack Days event, now is your opportunity.
Send Rain Leander an email (r...@redhat.com) stating where you’re located,
what your role is in relation to RDO, and why you’d like to attend a
particular event and she’ll follow up with more information. Priorities go
to people who get a talk accepted and are located nearest the event. Here
are the upcoming OpenStack Days posted so far:

   - OpenStack Days Budapest, 6 June, Budapest, Akvárium Klub -
   http://openstackceeday.com/
   - 2018 OpenInfra Days China, 21-22 June, China National Convention
   Center Beijing - http://china.openinfradays.org/En
   - Open Infra Days Korea, 28-29 June, COEX Hall E -
   https://openinfradays.kr/
   - OpenStack Days São Paulo, 28 July -
   http://openstackbr.com.br/events/2018/
   - OpenStack Days Tokyo, 2-3 Aug., Belle Salle Tokyo Nihonbashi, Tokyo -
   http://openstackdays.com/en/
   - VietOpenStack, 25 Aug. - https://2018.vietopenstack.org/
   - Benelux OpenStack Day, 14 Sept. - http://www.openstack.nl/en/events/
   - OpenStack Days Nordic, 9-10 Oct., Münchenbryggeriet -
   http://stockholm.openstacknordic.org/

We Want YOU! To Do RDO Webinars

Interested in talking about a recent project you’re excited about? We’re
looking for a handful of folks to record a 15 minute presentation which
will later be aired for the RDO community. We’ll host a live Q while the
recording plays. We’ll follow up after the event with a blogpost featuring
the video recording as well as a transcript of the Q More details coming
soon, but let Rain Leander know if you’re interested via IRC (leanderthal)
or email (r...@redhat.com).
Building Power Containers for TripleO

Last month Michael Turek proposed building containers for TripleO. The goal
is to have the first step of the TripleO job pipeline that builds the
containers and uploads them to Docker hub set up for ppc64le. The first
step is to identify the hardware that would make this possible. If you have
any insight into these issues or would like to help, chime in on the
mailing list:
https://mail.rdoproject.org/thread.html/eb924d6d5ec84e81f92add066eb5662a36046c902824254bf4018d8c@%3Cdev.lists.rdoproject.org%3E

In the meantime, the first configuration for jobs patch is uploaded and
ready for review at https://review.rdoproject.org/r/#/c/13606/. This patch
introduces configuration to add jobs for building tripleo containers for
ppc64le. Sure, this is work in progress as the cloud provider used in this
patch does not yet exist, but if you build it, they will come.

We’re super excited to see this project continue moving forward and can’t
wait for the end results!
Community News RDO Rocky M1 Test Days Report!

On the 03rd and 04th May we had our first test days on Rocky with 40
participants, 1678 messages, one ticket opened on bugzilla for packstack

Re: [rdo-users] RDO Rocky Test Days Milestone ONE Next Week

2018-05-03 Thread Rain Leander
Welcome to RDO Test Days. We've started TODAY and will be testing for two
whole days! There's nowhere to sign up specifically unless you'd like to
play with the kolla environment. [0] If you're going to be testing on your
own stuff, just show up on #rdo and post results / workarounds in the
testing matrix. [1-5]

Re: [rdo-users] RDO Rocky Test Days Milestone ONE Next Week

2018-05-02 Thread Rain Leander
Can't wait to see everyone on #rdo TOMORROW!

If you'd like to sign up for your very own cloud environment, we're again
partnering with kolla to provide a containerized OpenStack cloud with the
help of Ansible and Docker. [0]

Thanks, in advance, for your help!! !

[rdo-users] Announcing Our OSAS Ambassadors!

2018-04-25 Thread Rain Leander
While I am back to work almost full time after the birth of my super sweet
twinsess, I'm not QUITE travelling across the pond YET and therefore have
recruited Haïkel Guémar and Molly Kepley to be the OSAS Ambassadors at
OpenStack Summit Vancouver and Red Hat Summit respectively.

I and the rest of the RDO community will be available on #rdo the weeks
that they're covering the booths to answer any questions, concerns, and
snarky comments they may have in the call of duty. However, if you're also
attending one of these summits, please consider joining Haïkel [0] or Molly
[1] for a shift or two and / or to demo something you've recently done.

Please join me in thanking them offline for their awesomeness!

[rdo-users] RDO Rocky Test Days Milestone ONE Next Week

2018-04-24 Thread Rain Leander
Hello everyone!

Bust out your spoons because we're about to test the first batch of Rocky
[road] ice cream!

Or, y'know, the first Rocky OpenStack milestone.

On 03 and 04 May, next week Thursday and Friday, we'll have our first
milestone test days for Rocky OpenStack. We would love to get as wide
participation in the RDO Test Days from our global team as possible!

We're looking for developers, users, operators, quality engineers, writers,
and, yes, YOU. If you're reading this, we want your help!

Let's set new records on the amount of participants! The amount of tickets!
The amount of feedback and questions and NOTES!

Oh, my.

But, seriously.

I know that everyone has Important Stuff To Do but taking a few hours or a
day to give things a run through at various points in the RDO cycle will
benefit everyone. Not only will this help identify issues early in the
development process, but you can be the one of the first to cut your teeth
on the latest versions of your favorite deployment methods like TripleO,
PackStack, and Kolla.

So, please consider taking a break from your normal duties and spending at
least a few hours with us in #rdo on Freenode.

See you NEXT WEEK!

[rdo-users] We Need You! For the RDO Booth at OpenStack Summit Vancouver

2018-03-29 Thread K Rain Leander
Hello RDO Community!

We are gearing up for OpenStack Summit Vancouver where we'll have our regular
presence within the Red Hat booth. This spring we'll continue the ManageIQ /
RDO demo we started last year and we'd love to see your demos, too! If you've
got something you'd like to demo via video OR LIVE because you're not afraid of
ANYTHING, sign up [1].

We're also looking for people to spend their precious free time answering
questions [2] at the RDO booth. If you're attending, please consider spending
one or more of your free moments with us. Questions run the gamut from "What's
RDO?" to "I found a bug in Neutron and need help troubleshooting it." Of
course, you're not expected to know everything and you can always keep IRC open
to access the RDO Community for help! Plus, you get cool stuff! If you sign up
for three or more shifts, we're going to hook you up with an RDO hoodie.

If you have any thoughts / questions / concerns about space / schematics /
details, catch me on irc [3] or email me directly.

Thanks so much!
Rain
