Sorry, but resetting the user profile will not help at all. Only
removing all but one of the spell checking extensions will work. This
was mentioned on this list some time ago.

the README of AOO 3.5 still contains this:
OpenOffice.org requires a recent version of JAVA for full functionality
which is part of the OpenOffice.org installation package.
Java isn't part of the installation package.
