Bei manchen Aktionen merke ich, dass OO rödelt und nach langer Zeit dann
fertig ist. z.B. beim Kopieren von Zellen, wenn ich mit den Fingern
schneller bin als der Computer. Dann scheinen sich zwei

Hover the cursor over ‘Open With’
Press Option: ‘Open With’ changes to ‘Always Open With’
Click on an application from the list.

Only suggestion I can give is try to start OpenOffice with a lower resolution
and see if

What OS are you using?
On the Mac you can define the application that opens a given class of files,
such as .doc suffixes. I think Windows has a similar function, somewhere.

You might try downloading LibreOffice (www.libreoffice.org) and see if the
same problem occurs. It's free. I use LO as my primary spreadsheet/word
processor, but occasionally use OOWriter and don't have the problem you
describe. I'm also running IOs 10.13.2, but using OO version 4.1.5.
