There is no phone number for OpenOffice. Everybody is a volunteer in open source software. What version are you using? What operating system? When did you first have the problem. Can you find your files in the system file manager? Do you know where you put them at the time you created them

Try the help menu. Some of the best help content I've ever used. A very important feature of OpenOffice is that it is not a Microsoft product and does not attempt to work like MS products. It's an entirely different mind-set though similar enough that you can usually figure out how to get stuff

Not sure from your description what you're trying to do but following may work: Select a cell with the background you want. Paste Special - Format where you want the background color. Your background will then be the same as in the copied cell. It doesn't change the color when you click on it
