Return When Cell Is Copied
Hello, I create and maintain a spreadsheet in OpenOffice. When I paste the contents of a copied spreadsheet cell to another application (a OpenOffice Writer document for instance) a return is added at the end of the copied text. This happens in the Windows 11 and the macOS environments. Can the addition of the return be suppressed or turned off is some way? I have looked in Options and also Customize but I did not find anything that I thought would control this behavior. Any suggestions? Thank you. David Stuhr
How to Add Conditional Formatting to Existing Data
Hello, I have been teaching/learning how "Conditional Formatting" (cell value and formula is) in OpenOffice Calc works. On new columns (or rows) of data applying the conditional formatting is/has been a very straight forward and an easy process. I have been able to apply the conditional formatting using the "fill" method; define the conditional formatting in a cell and the grab the small square in the lower right corner of the cell and drag the cell to apply the conditional formatting to the desired number of cells. My question is about applying "formula is" conditional formatting to existing data (dates) where dates are missing or duplicated in the column and using the fill method described above would alter/change the existing data values. Thank your for your assistance. David Stuhr
Median Function Used as "Between"
Hello, Can the Median function in Open Office Spreadsheet be used as a between function? When the following equation is entered =IF(B12=MEDIAN(120;129);"Yes";"No") and cell B12 contains 121 formatted as Number General the equation returns No. I have also tested the equation with the values 120 and 129 replaced by cell references and the same false value (No) is returned. I have also replace the value of cell B12 with the value 118 and the same false value (No) is returned. All of my research on the web indicates that this equation works in other spreadsheet products. I am using Open Office 4.1.13 on a Windows 11 PC. Am I doing something incorrectly? David
Re: Update: After Windows 11 Update Open Office Starts But Goes Into Not Responding
Hello, Microsoft Support responded last night after I had gone to bed. Support gave me a Powershell command to reverse the Windows 11 update. I had to execute the Powershell command 3 times and restart each time but it did work. Re: Windows 11 Crash - OpenOffice Runs - Not Responding State
Hello, Yes, I have used End Task in Task Manager to quit OpenOffice and then restarted Windows 11. There was no change in the behavior of OpenOffice after the restart. I downloaded OpenOffice from the web, uninstalled OpenOffice and re-installed OpenOffice. Everything is back to "normal behavior" of OpenOffice. Am now able to create, save and reopen OpenOffice text and spreadsheet documents. Thanks for your assistance. Open Office Icon in Taskbar
Hello, Not a significant issue but when I pin Open Office 4.1.12 to the Windows Taskbar the 'round blue icon with 2 white flying forms' is not shown. Previous version did display Open Office icon in the Taskbar. A white rectangle in portrait orientation is displayed for 4.1.12. Attempted to change properties of the taskbar icon but did not work. Thanks. dds
Applying Page Styles
I am having difficulty applying a different page style to new pages in an existing document. Double clicking, as instructed in the help, does not change the page style. The only way i have been able to apply a new page style is when the document does not have any text/content. Is this a bug? Thank you. David
MacOS Upgrades
Hello, After MacOS upgrades a folder "Relocated Items" is left on my Mac desktop with a PDF explaining and a file named "group.system_default" the file has something to do with the Open Directory. Does OpenOffice use OpenDirectory? And if so, how do I deal with this issue on the Mac? Can User Functions Be Created In OpenOffice Spreadsheet
Hello, I have an OpenOffice Calc (spreadsheet) that has over a thousand Hyperlinks and I would like to create a user defined function which would extract the URL from the Hyperlink and put it in a separate cell. I found an Excel example on the web which I pasted in below. Function GetURL(rng As Range) As String On Error Resume Next GetURL = rng.Hyperlinks(1).Address End Function Can this be done in OpenOffice Calc? I have looked for documentation but I probably using the incorrect terms so I have not found any information. I use both the Windows and Mac versions of Open office. Thank you. I enjoy reading the support you provide to users and I have learned several things. dds

Re: Get URL from Hyperlink - Solved
Hello, I figured out a very low tech solution ... save as an HTML file, a little editing and a file import. Done. Sometimes simpler is better and I know I will fully understand what I am dong. :-) I would be more than happy to write up a cheat sheet of the steps in the procedure that I am yet to devise. (But I know I can do it.) I want to thank the members of the group for the unpaid work that you do. I for one appreciate what each of you do. I look forward each day to the question/problems users present and the thoughtful attention you give to the issues raised. Keep up the good work. I think in this day and age that a function that would get the URL from a Hyperlink in a spreadsheet cell would be entirely appropriate. Does the team/individual that maintains OpenOffice have a "suggestion" box?
