The link provides overly complicated instructions. Ctrl+Alt+Del,
choose process and 'end task'. Seems more straightforward.

I wonder how much gooing to Best Buy cost in gas, technician's
charges? Not to mention time.

Not a big fan of Windows 11 but this kind of foul-up happens sometimes
with OpenOffice, quite rare though, in my experience. (I don't use
Quickstarter which may, I think, sometimes cause OO to get stuck.)

I believe you didn't understand the instructions.

Go to the Start Menu in Windows - tell us if you don't know what this

Note there's probably a simpler way to do the following but I'm not

(0) to shut down OpenOffice, enter 'ctl + alt + delete' keys at once,
choose 'task manage'; find OpenOffice; right-click; choose 'end task';
you can close 'task manager' if you want.

(I don't know if Dick Groskamp has a better way?)

then:

(1) type 'cmd' (no quotes)
(2) click 'run as an administrator'
(3) write or copy the command Dick Groskamp gave you, making sure to
enter your actual username.
(4) then restart OpenOffice.

report back with questions, results, etc.

seem to remember there was a fix for Open Office when using Windows 11.
I'll look to see if I saved that post.
Here's what I found in my saved emails.
Thank you David for reporting your issues with Open Office working under
Windows 11 and how it was resolved.  I enjoy Open Office and will not be
upgrading to Windows 11.

Not Responding

Hello,

Microsoft Support responded last night after I had gone to bed. Support
gave me a Powershell command to reverse the Windows 11 update. I had to
execute the Powershell command 3 times and restart each time but it did
work.

Re: OpenOffice locked up

2023-12-09 Thread Dick Groskamp
Try to renew your userprofile.
Close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter (if enabled)

Go to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4
There is a folder called user. Rename that folder to something else, for
instance "user_old"

Go back and restart OpenOffice. It will make a new folder user.
This method often solves strange problems :-)
