version 3.1 wont open

  I have openoffice version 3.1 and cannot open it any 
more.  Need help to correct problem.

If you are using Windows, start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill any 
"soffice" processes shown as running on TM's Processes tab.  Such processes can 
be left over if you close (powerdown) your computer too quickly after using OO, 
or if you have had a program or computer crash.

Any reason why you're not running the latest version?  4.1.2 has been
out for over a month.

  I have downloaded latest version 4.1.2 and still cannot program.
