Hi Itamar, Hi people,

I don't know if your proposal was directed to me, but I just *found*
this thread, but never wrote anything into it, so you'd better ask

You should also have a PTR record to your directory service machine.

You also need to have a time difference between your oVirt engine machine

Paste from ovirt admin GUI log:

Looking through htop command could see that VM were still running and
responsive but any vdsclient command failed with the upper code paste I
have given. Solution here was to connect to each VM, shut it down and
restart vdsmd and power it up again. There's no problem with the storage
size as it has aprox 800GB free of space and running through NFS. All
nfs mount points were running okay at that time.

After the VM has been snapshoot-ed went into pause mode and had to
un-pause it from GUI, but the VM was still responsive through network
and operations.

Has anybody seen something related to this by now or it's just related
to 3.1 version ? Mentioning the fact that I did a research on the
similar mailing list topics and could not find something related to this
error. I would happily provide logs if needed.

Alex

OK, the problem is still NOT solved, but I did some further
investigation. First, the problem ONLY affects VMs with a bootable
harddisk (and an operating system installed).
A newly created VM is NOT affected and is able to boot from CD-ROM.
Once I install an operating system, the VM will no longer be able
to boot from CD-ROM. No matter what is configured as boot device...

There is still only the following workaround to boot from CD-ROM:

The only way I am able to boot from CD-ROM is when using the
Run once function on the Admin Portal and configure the CD-ROM
device/image there (temporarely overwriting my config).

It will NOT work if I configure the CD-ROM device through the REST
API or the Admin Portal. Just Run Once will do the right thing.

Any idea how to debug this further and get a bugfix/working solution?

oVirt is running fine, except this annoying bug makes it somewhat
useless for us.

You can execute virsh using the -r or --readonly options. You can't

ovirt-engine and then through vdsm.

The second attempt was the Run Once feature from the Admin Panel:

As you can see this results in different qemu/libvirt configurations, although

and restart vdsmd and power it up again. There's no problem with the
storage size as it has aprox 800GB free of space and running through
NFS. All nfs mount points were running okay at that time.

After the VM has been snapshoot-ed went into pause mode and had to
un-pause it from GUI, but the VM was still responsive through network
and operations.

[Users] virt-v2v fail - GuestfsHandle.pm error + Redhat.pm error

2013-02-07 Thread Nicolas Ecarnot

Hi,

After having successfully migrated Debian, XP, 2003, 2008 VMs, I'm stuck
with a migration I was expecting to be easy : RHAS3.

Here is the error log I get :

I don't mind the warnings and I also had such errors I was able to
correct manually.

But here, the last two lines are lethal.

It seems oVirt tries to guess which OS is imported, and tries to do
specific actions, and do them bad.
Either there's a way o prevent oVirt from guessing, either there's a way
to correct the actions oVirt is failing to do...

Googling was not that helpful about this issue.

Regards.

Jonathan Archer:

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on an issue I'm seeing?

I've followed the instructions on the wiki to try and get an ovirt
setup running. (F17 minimal, updated, add repo, yum install
ovirt-engine, engine-setup)
All that seemed to go OK, and the database creation etc seemed to be
fine, however starting the ovirt-engine service seems to have failed
to start, was getting a http 503 error on trying the web interface.

Looking deeper into it, it seems that jboss-as seems to be failing to
start with some errors around logging.
when I run systemctl start ovirt-engine.service i get the following in
the logs:
Feb 6 14:33:52 host1 engine-service.py[25212]: Started engine process

I don't mind the warnings and I also had such errors I was able to correct
 manually.

But here, the last two lines are lethal.

It seems oVirt tries to guess which OS is imported, and tries to do specific
 actions, and do them bad.
Either there's a way o prevent oVirt from guessing, either there's a way to
correct the actions oVirt is failing to do...

I think you had better to tell which version of virt-v2v and on which platform.
eg:
virt-v2v-0.8.7-7.el6_3.x86_64 on CentOS 6.3

otherwise the lines referred could not be the same as yours...

[Users] windows guest user agent

2013-02-07 Thread Sallee, Stephen (Jake)
I have been googeling trying to find info on how to install the guest agent for
windows, can anyone give me some insight?

I did find some instructions on how to build it from inside the VM, but the
instructions a several months old and before I try them I would like to make
sure they are still the best method.

Re: [Users] Problem with Win 7 VM creation

2013-02-07 Thread Jim Kinney
I have a iso image of the drivers in my iso storage. Just change CD and use
the driver CD. Be sure to change it back to be the install Cd. The win7
error will look something like Can't install on that disk and it looks
like it means the virtual hard drive after the driver installs and it sees
the drive. It really means I don't have the install Cd anymore to install
from.

sigh windows...

Hi Gianluca,

Thank you for your answer. You are right, I have to precise the versions
implied.

- Fedora 17 64 bits
- virt-v2v.x86_64version 0.8.8-1.fc17
- every ovirt component is of the family 3.1.0-4.fc17

I installed nothing exotic nor special. Just following the oVirt website
doc.

Do I have to debug the perl script, or is there an option I can tweak in
the virt-v2v command?
