There is also this one, which is actually what I wound up using:

Are either of these VFDs safe to use? Is one preferred?

[Users] Problem adding an RHEL node/host

2013-11-08 Thread Bob Doolittle

Hi,

I'm trying to follow the Quick Start guide, and I can't seem to add a
host. I am running oVirt 3.3 on F19 for the engine. The node is RHEL
6.4, subscribed to RH channels and fully updated:

# yum repolist
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, security,

This system is not registered to Red Hat Subscription Management. You can use
subscription-manager to register.

rhel-x86_64-server-6 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v. 6 for 64-bit x8 11,114
repolist: 21,311

The install fails, and when I look at the host-deploy log it appears to
be due to a failure for Yum to find a dependency.
At Matt Curry's suggestion, I added the 'epel' repository (not mentioned
in QS Guide), which I think resolved some dependencies, but I still fail
as follows:

2013-11-08 13:48:49 ERROR otopi.context context._executeMethod:146 Failed to
execute stage 'Package installation': [u'vdsm-4.12.1-4.el6.x86_64 requires

u'vdsm-4.12.1-4.el6.x86_64 requires sanlock >= 2.3-4']

As far as I can tell by googling around, sanlock belongs to the ovirt
project. So where should it be coming from?

Is something wrong with ovirt-stable? I am using:

[ovirt-stable]
name=Stable builds of the oVirt project
baseurl=http://ovirt.org/releases/stable/rpm/EL/$releasever/
enabled=1
skip_if_unavailable=1

I did a "yum clean; yum mkcache" just prior to initiating the Host Add
from the web interface. Any suggestions?

Bob

2013-11-08 Thread Sven Knohsalla
Hi Sven,

thanks for the fast reply.

oVirt-engine:
oVirt Engine Version: 3.2.1-1.fc18 , F18 based

F18 hosts as nodes:
Kernel Version: 3.9.11 - 200.fc18.x86_64
KVM Version: 1.2.2 - 13.fc18
LIBVIRT Version: libvirt-0.10.2.6-1.fc18
VDSM Version: vdsm-4.10.3-17.fc18
SPICE Version: 0.12.2 - 3.fc18

I currently installed ovirt-guest-agent RPM on CentOS 6.4 64bit guest (latest).

[root@deovn-yXX ~]# virsh -r dumpxml VMNAME | grep virtio-serial

Yes, it seems virtio-serial has been attached to the VM.

I installed python python-devel packages on this VM.
Do I need further packages for this virtio-serial dev ?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Sven.

Hi,

I just updated the wiki a little, but I'm not sure my information
is 100% correct:
http://www.ovirt.org/Features/MomIntegration
especially regarding the status of the guest agent on
various operating systems (the info in the wiki is a mess and not
up-to-date).

so maybe someone can provide additional information regarding
ballooning of memory and the guest agent, I also updated the png
but didn't upload it, because it's not finished yet, feel free
to improve the dia-shape yourself (see the attachment) :-)

PS: Maybe it would be cool to store such graphical overviews
in their source-format in a git or in the wiki, for easier updating
through other people?

PPS: Is this the right ML for this kind of info or should I register
for Infra or something else?

Hi,

ovirt-guest-agent (1.0.8-1.el6) currently just shows IP address under oVirt
3.2.1 .

I assume this has to do with missing vioserial device?

The documentation says (http://www.ovirt.org/Category:Ovirt_guest_agent):
For Linux systems - it requires python and a vioserial device.

What needs to be done to install vioserial (virtual component / rpm package) ?

Thanks in advance!

[Users] Adding VMware (was Re: Could I add the VirtualBox to the oVirt?)

I agree that it is unfortunate that we have limited the power of libvirt
in terms of the number of backends it can manage when integrating it
into oVirt.**Extending to VirtualBox would be an interesting project,
but I'm not sure how valuable it would be. As a long-time user of
VirtualBox I found it to be slower than KVM. I guess it could allow
people to use non-Linux Nodes. Like Dan said, a lot of work there so the
payoff would have to be big enough to justify it.

On the other hand, I think it would have far greater impact in terms of
number of use cases/users if we expanded VDSM to manage VMware ESX.
VMware is still arguably the market leader for virtualization. At the
very least, this would then provide a migration path for anybody wanting
to move away from VMware to oVirt (or, perhaps, visa-versa if we don't
do a good enough job with oVirt ;). Since the Nodes would effectively
still be restricted to Linux the task should be easier than e.g.
supporting a Node consisting of Windows+VirtualBox. As with VirtualBox,
there's no SPICE capability for VMware, so in addition to the VDSM work
the User Portal should be extended to support e.g. VMware Horizon View
Client.

-Bob

P.S. If we *did* support VirtualBox, the User Portal should be extended
to broker VNC connections since that's one way to connect to a console
with VBox. That wouldn't be a bad project in itself, and would have
value even without VirtualBox.

I remember that this was discussed and the agreement was that if the offset
is not reported by qemu-img we should have used the old method to calculate
the new volume size.

We'll probably need to verify it. Sander can you open a bug on this?

This would make a great feature (and I'd add Linux container to the list), but
it's an expensive one. Introducing it into vdsm is a challange. But the complex
part is maintaining and testing it for years to come.

Personally, I'd prefer to focus on KVM. Higer in my portability wishlist are
non-Fedora distribution and non-x86_64 cpus. However if someone volunteers to
port vdsm to another technology (and maintain the code so that it does not
rot), I would be delighted.

Yes, I meant two separate items - the VFD plus the ISO, just as is done

upstream, assuming that's not a problem with RedHat.

Also note that since the Quick Start Guide is written to assume these
items are pre-populated, that should be considered a bug today. Either
the QSG should be updated to remove this note until the functionality is
actually present, or we can simply add the func to match the doc (which
would be less work in the long run) :)

As requested, I have opened a (separate) bug/rfe to track this:

I am not sure they need to be separate bugs, but I started it this way

[Users] Removing orphaned hosts

2013-11-08 Thread Rob Abshear
I have an oVirt installation with two datacenters. One datacenter
called "Dev" has three nodes that are just PCs and live in a datacenter
called "Development". The other is a production cluster called "DMZ"
with two Dell servers and it lives in a data center called
"Production". I had to bring all our servers down for some electrical
maintanance in the building, so I brought down all running VMs
gracefully and brought down all hosts gracefully. When I brought the
servers back up, the Dev cluster came up fine, but the DMZ cluster's
hosts would never go green. I could put them in maintenance mode and
reinstall them, but they would still not come "UP". I worked with this
for hours with no change in my situation. Finally, I made the decision
to remove the datacenter and rebuild it. I force removed the Production
data center.

Now here is my situation. I have two nodes in a cluster called DMZ that
are not in any datacenter. I can put them in maintenance mode and
reinstall them, but they never come up afterward. I can't remove either
one because" Error while executing action: Cannot remove Host. Related
operation is currently in progress. Please try again later." I just
don't know how to get back from this. All the VMs from this datacenter
are sitting on a NAS. I tried to create another data center and import
the data domain, but I realize this isn't supported, so that is one
issue. When I try to just remove the DMZ cluster, it won't let me
because "Error while executing action: Cannot remove default Host Cluster."

[Users] Error logged during Admin Portal login

2013-11-08 Thread Bob Doolittle

Hi,

I'm running 3.3 on F19. Every time I login from the admin portal, I get
a bunch of errors logged:

2013-11-08 09:14:48,151 ERROR
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.generic.DBConfigUtils]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-1) Failed to decrypt value for property
LocalAdminPassword will be used encrypted value:
javax.crypto.BadPaddingException: Data must start with zero

Full error is here:
http://pastebin.com/GpASyTCL

Anybody know what's happening here, and what the effect is?
I must say I'm not noticing any overt problems - the portal functions
pretty much as I'd expect. But these errors are disturbing.

I'm not sure that it's the only problem in this flow, but there's a
clear bug in lib/vdsm/qemuImg.py's check() function: it fails to parse
the output of qemu-img.

Would you open a bug on that? I found no open one.

I'll file a bug, if nobody else has. I have a couple I've been putting off.

Happens to me too. I've never gotten around to filing a BZ on it :) It does
seem to have no effect.

Hi Sven,
can you send the original metadata and the relevant vdsm logs?

If I read your engine logs correctly we need the vdsm logs from the host

[Users] [QE] bug scrubing / triaging

2013-11-08 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
Looking at bugzilla, there are 366 bugs without a target release.
Some of them are in POST state but I'm pretty sure they should be in ON_QA or
CLOSED state.
A lot of them haven't a whiteboard set.

Please review the bug list and help to scrub and triage them:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=POST&classification=Community&columnlist=product%2Ccomponent%2Cassigned_to%2Cbug_status%2Cresolution%2Cshort_desc%2Ctarget_release%2Cstatus_whiteboard&list_id=1883279&product=oVirt&query_based_on=&query_format=advanced&target_release=---

Thanks

Which version of oVirt uses the new URI - I assume 3.4? (and do you know
if the URI will be changed in RHEV as well)?

I think it's important to mention this change in oVirt upgrade/release
notes to let users know that they have to change the UI plugin URI. When
packaging an UI plugin it's not a problem to check the oVirt version in
a %post section and run a sed command over the JSON file...

I also have a question (not related to this topic) too:
In webadmin I select e.g. a vm and click on Disks webadmin displays disk
details for this vm. When selecting another vm I can see the disk infos
for this vm (webadmin keeps me in Disks subtab which is what I would
expect).
When I click on Monitoring Details (which is a subtab created by my
monitoring UI plugin) and I select another vm webadmin doesn't show me
the content of the ui plugin subtab (Monitoring Details) but instead the
Disks subtab (always the last clicked non-ui-plugin subtab).
Didn't test in in oVirt 3.3 yet, only in oVirt 3.2 and RHEV 3.2...
Is it possible to let subtabs created by ui pugins behave in the same
way as subtabs provided by webadmin?

Regards,
René

Your vms are killed/restarted by ovirt-engine using the REST-API (on
behalf of one of the cluster members of course). So you don't have to
install anything except the fence-agents on all your cluster members
(vms) and make sure they can reach port 443 (or 8443 depending on your
setup) of ovirt-engine...

[Users] oVirt and SAS storage

2013-11-08 Thread Hans-Joachim
Hello Community,

I'm running oVirt 3.3 (based on EL6) in an iSCSI environment with 3 nodes.

Now, I was looking for a better shared storage system and I got offered a SAS
solution.

My questions:
Does oVirt support SAS?

What type will be the storagedomain in the setup? POSIX, FC, iSCSI?

Is there an easy way to migrate from iSCSI to SAS without export/import?

Thank you for your help
