[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.1 RC status

2014-11-26 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We're going to start composing oVirt 3.5.1 RC on *2014-12-02 08:00 UTC* from
3.5 branch.
In order to stabilize the release a new branch ovirt-engine-3.5.1 will be
created from the same git hash used for composing the RC.

The bug tracker [1] shows 3 open blocker:
Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1162640 gluster POSTsupervdsm segfault in libgfapi while querying
volume status detail
1160846 sla NEW Can't add disk to VM without specifying disk
profile when the storage domain has more than one disk profile
1159839 storage POSTNew FC LUNs are not detected on hypervisor
without a reboot

The following bugs have been keyworded as Regression and not marked as blockers:

Bug ID Whiteboard Status Target Summary
1160846 sla NEW --- Can't add disk to VM without specifying
disk profile when the storage domain has more than one disk profile
1118349 storage NEW 3.5.1 [vdsm] Creating DataCenter 3.5 using
master domain V1 fails with InquireNotSupportedError

In order to stabilize the release a new branch ovirt-engine-3.5.1 will be
created from the same git hash used for composing the RC.

Maintainers:
- Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot allow to create VMs before *2014-12-01 15:00
UTC*
- Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release before
*2014-12-01 15:00 UTC*
- If any patch must block the RC release please raise the issue as soon as
possible.
- Please provide an ETA for the pending blockers as soon as possible.

Infra:
- Please check Jenkins status for 3.5 jobs and sync with relevant maintainers
if there are issues.

There are still 98 bugs [2] targeted to 3.5.1.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 71 bugs [3] targeted to
3.5.1.

Maintainers / Assignee:
- Please review bugs marked as Regression and add to blocker if they're real
regressions.
- Please add the bugs to the tracker if you think that 3.5.1 should not be
released without them fixed.
- Please update the target to 3.5.2 or later for bugs that won't be in 3.5.1:
it will ease gathering the blocking bugs for next releases.
- Please fill release notes, the page has been created here [4]

Community:
- If you're testing oVirt 3.5 nightly snapshot, please add yourself to the test
page [5]

Re: [ovirt-users] DataCenters/QoS/CPU

2014-11-26 Thread Artyom Lukianov
You need to specify limit for host cpu loading in %, so if you want that your
vm will not utilize more than 30% of host cpu you need to put this value to 30.
Thanks

Subject: [ovirt-users] DataCenters/QoS/CPU

Hello,

I want to implement a new CPU QoS but i don't know what data needs in "Limit:
field.
I saw this page, http://www.ovirt.org/Features/CPU_SLA but as i can see it only
reference to http://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsCPUTuning

Does Limit field need to be filled with some options from ?
Is there some related information?

[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.6.0 status

2014-11-26 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,

Release criteria discussion started on 2014-10-22 and will end today 2014-11-26
as discussed in last oVirt sync meeting [1].

If no objections will be raised, the proposed changes [2] will be accepted.

Release management for 3.6.0 has been created [3]
The key milestones for this release must be scheduled:

Key Milestones
Release criteria discussion start: 2014-10-22
Release criteria ready: 2014-11-26
Feature freeze: 60 Days before release
First Test Day: 45 days before release
Release Candidate: 30 days before release
Release: 6 months after oVirt 3.5.0 release

External Project Schedules
Fedora 21: 2014-12-09
Fedora 22: 2015-XX-XX
GlusterFS 3.7: 2015-04-29
OpenStack Kilo: 2015-04-30

Two different proposals have been made about above scheduling [4]:
1) extend the cycle to 10 months for allowing to include a large feature set
2) reduce the cycle to less than 6 months and split features over 3.6 and 3.7

Feature proposed for 3.6.0 must now be collected in the 3.6 google doc [8]
and reviewed by maintainers.

A tracker bug for 3.6.0 has been created [5] and currently shows no blockers.

There are 439 bugs [6] targeted to 3.6.0.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we have 419 bugs [7] targeted to 3.6.0.

I fear I got an objection:

quote:
>> * Alpha release should come after feature freeze
> Nothing more to say about it

I really think you are twisting the way what is commonly known as an
"alpha":

from wikipedia:
"[..]The alpha phase usually **ends** with a feature freeze[..]"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_software#Alpha
emphasis added by me.

you are doing it the wrong way: first release an alpha, than
make a feature freeze. _After_ feature freeze you can release
a beta.

I really like this terminology and think it is commonly known
and accepted and it works very well.

thoughts?

Hi Nathan,
please attach also the vdsm logs from the hosts.
also, please check the storage access from the hosts and what's under the
domain dirs - for example the domain under 172.16.241.98:/mnt/storage

"The alpha phase usually ends with a feature freeze, indicating that no more
features will be added to the software. At this time, the software is
said to be **feature complete**."

So if you mean alpha release requirements are:

substantially complete and in a testable state
enabled by default -- if so specified by the change

And for feature freeze you mean: "no more changes in the feature because the
feature is complete" I agree with you, feature freeze must be after alpha.

what I was trying to describe with having feature freeze before alpha is that
we must not have features included in the alpha release which are:
- not substantially complete
- not in a testable state

such kind of features must not be in alpha release.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 3.5 Bug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2014-11-26 Thread Frantisek Kobzik
Hello,

- Firstly, I don't know how this setup could have worked before 3.5 :) Could
you try two tests?
1, Can you ping the kvm04... machine from your clients machine (in one of
these vlans)?
2, Can you telnet to spice server on kvm04? (start spice console on some VM on
kvm04, download console.vv file, telnet to host:port from the console.vv file).
Does this work?

I don't think 2, will work because spice server listens on the display network
interface (which is unaccessible from clients), but let's try it anyway.

- Also, are you sure your firewall is set up correctly and doesn't block spice
ports?
- Another thing: didn't you use spice proxy in your previous setup?

Thanks,
F.

Re: [ovirt-users] 答复: Ovirt 3.5 Bug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2014-11-26 Thread Frantisek Kobzik
Hi,

I don't think multiple display network is possible within single cluster. How
would engine know which is the correct one for given client? Also that would
mean vdsm would have to start spice server on multiple interfaces and I believe
it's not capable of this. But maybe I'm missing something. I'll try adding Lior
from networking team.

Lior, can you take a quick glance on this thread?

Thanks!
Franta.

[ovirt-users] what should be the output of the default iptables rules?

2014-11-26 Thread Arman Khalatyan
Hello,
I was playing with custom iptables rules and something went wrong.
Now my *engine-config -g IPTablesConfig* is empty.

Can some one please give a hint what should be there??:)

Thanks,
Arman.

Re: [ovirt-users] 答复: Ovirt 3.5 Bug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2014-11-26 Thread PaulCheung
Except the display network, other network user can't telnet the 59xx spice
port. I guess because the spice portonly listening in this display network.
But, all spice port can listening in all network interface in 0virt 3.4,
why Ovirt 3.5 not provide this ?

If I can't choose more than one network to display the spice port oVirt 3.5 ,
is there a way for me to down grade to oVirt 3.4?

Sincerely yours,
PaulCheung

???

I define an alpha release as the following:
features may get added or removed during alpha cycle, of course you can
add your own policy about which features you accept.

>
> And for feature freeze you mean: "no more changes in the feature because the
> feature is complete" I agree with you, feature freeze must be after alpha.

no. feature freeze means exactly that:

no more new features are accepted, after feature freeze.
after feature freeze the accepted features stabilize in the beta phase,
you just fix bugs.

> what I was trying to describe with having feature freeze before alpha is that
> we must not have features included in the alpha release which are:
> - not substantially complete

you should not call this "feature freeze" as this is not what is
commonly understood (imho) when you talk about feature freeze
(see my explanation above).

You might want to call this "feature acceptance criteria" or something
like that, at least it would be more clear (to me) what you mean.

make sense, well, since it's a milestone, maybe better something like "feature
acceptance review"

Thanks!
So As I undertand it correctly the @CUSTOM_RULES@ will be overridden by
engine-config --set IPTablesConfigSiteCustom=""?

Re: [ovirt-users] USB redirect

2014-11-26 Thread Uri Lublin

Hi Michal,

As far as I know there is no need to install something inside VM for the Native
USB redirection to function properly, thus nothing related is included on the
oVirt WGT ISO.

Hi,

Lev, you are correct; there is nothing to install on the guest for Spice
Native USB.

On the client side there is a need for remote-viewer to be configured
with USB redir enabled,

and having access to the device (via libusb).
On a Windows client currently we use WinUSB driver to enable access to
the USB device.
The driver can be installed using the usbclerk service or manually (e.g.
with Zadig).

It must be installed for each device to be redirected.

On Ovirt, as mentioned, Native Spice USB option has to be enabled.
(This would also add the virtual usb devices needed on the
qemu-kvm/spice-server side).

Hope that helps,
   Uri.

The user/admin only needs to properly configure the VM for Native USB
redirection and install the Spice client.

I forwarded the issue to the Spice team, they could properly point to the issue.

Thanks in advance,
Lev Veyde.

As the oVirt documentation says, when this driver is installed a new USB
windows service will be started in the client, but after execute the
ovirt-guest-tool setup and finish the installation there is not any USB new
service in my Windows client.

Is it possible that this usbredir driver is not in this ISO?

usbredir drivers yes, you need them, they should be on the guest tools iso

The oVirt documentation says that I have to select Native USB mode in console

yes, that's the only supported way
you should see the USB controller in devices

but after select this mode, it doesn't remain. If I check this value in

there used to be such issue in 3.4..it is fixed in 3.5 already.
It should be a UI problem only…

Re: [ovirt-users] 答复: Ovirt 3.5 Bug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2014-11-26 Thread Frantisek Kobzik
Hi,

But the 3.5 behavior is correct IMO.

I think there are two possible solutions:
1, Create a brand new display network on the cluster (it'll be ONLY for
displays) and make sure it's accessible by all clients.

, or

2, Write a firewall rule or a VDSM hook that translates the spice/vnc traffic
from vlans to the management network.

(3, there is also a possibility to set 'display' attribute of your management
network to false in the database. But I highly don't recommend this as the
results aren't guaranteed.).

Toni, could you check my suggestions, whether they are correct? Thanks!

F.

Except the display network, other network user can't telnet the 59xx spice
port. I guess because the spice port
only listening in this display network.

But, all spice port can listening in all network interface in 0virt 3.4, why
Ovirt 3.5 not provide this ?

If I can't choose more than one network to display the spice port oVirt 3.5 ,
is there a way for me to down grade to oVirt 3.4?

[ovirt-users] ovirt italian translation and jenkins

2014-11-26 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
Amedeo Salvati has begun working on it (we are now at 40% on master).
Is it possible to include him in destination list for these e-mails?

Address amedeo.salv...@gmail.com is ok

BTW: is there any way to concentrate and work only master and then quickly
dump to 3.5 eventually?

Thanks in advance,

Gianluca

what Paul would like to achieve, but from an implementation perspective
it would be difficult as you described.

Patch was merged on master - just needs backporting and merging there too.
Seems simple enough.

Not interesting - this is indeed not a blocker.

Meeting started by bkp at 15:07:14 UTC. The full logs are available at
http://ovirt.org/meetings/ovirt/2014/ovirt.2014-11-26-15.07.log.html .

Meeting summary
---
* Agenda and roll Call (bkp, 15:07:31)
  * infra update  (bkp, 15:07:31)
  * 3.5.z updates  (bkp, 15:07:31)
  * 3.6.0 status  (bkp, 15:07:31)
  * conferences and workshops (bkp, 15:07:31)
  * other topics  (bkp, 15:07:33)

* infra update  (bkp, 15:09:33)
  * infra We had an outage last week, while upgrading vdsm to 3.5 on the
hosts, that left us with some hosts with vdsm 3.4 and some with 3.5,
will have to plan the upgrade more carefully. (bkp, 15:24:45)
  * infra An issue with the mock cleanup that rendered the slaves
unusable, that is solved, but there's a new issue that I'm
investigating that forced us to take them out of the pool (bkp,
15:24:49)
  * infra We also made some progress on getting vdsm unit tests inside
mock running. Two tests are failing, including the partition check
test. sbonazzo suggested nested VM approach. Will need another host
updated to F20 to enable such an approach. (bkp, 15:24:53)
  * infra Engine and jenkins upgraded (to 3.5 and 1.583, respectively)
(bkp, 15:24:57)
  * infra Nesting problems in PHX update: dcaro has to update on host
so we can test, but dima said that it's working well (bkp,
15:24:59)
  * infra Issues are being collected for the Infra Day Hackathon (date
TBD), here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E8e88Nb_OcT7BQprVF7ER6R8--T8mzgc_uHo3i3zeeA/edit#gid=0
(bkp, 15:25:02)

* 3.5.z updates  (bkp, 15:25:05)
  * 3.5.z updates Full status here:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-November/029543.html
(bkp, 15:31:29)
  * 3.5.z updates Three blockers (1162640, 1160846, and 1159839) in
place for 3.5.1 RC, no ETA set on fixes. (bkp, 15:31:32)
  * 3.5.z updates RC will need to be postponed one week to accomodate
blockers, but that date is even risky. (bkp, 15:31:38)
  * 3.5.z updates Almost all jenkins jobs for 3.5 are now green (except
one for node, fabiand team is already on it) (fabiand needs nesting
to get them green, see infra note above) (bkp, 15:31:41)

* 3.6 status  (bkp, 15:31:45)
  * 3.5.z updates addendum: Two regressions (1160846 and 1118349) are
tagged for 3.5.1 and need to be evaluated. (bkp, 15:33:01)
  * 3.6 status Full status here:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-November/029545.html
(bkp, 15:51:13)
  * 3.6 status No blockers (as expected). Bug count on the rise. (bkp,
15:51:16)
  * 3.6 status An earlier repoclosure error on missing mom-0.4.3 was
repaired and released today by alitke (just needed verification and
karma on Fedora systems) (bkp, 15:51:19)
  * 3.6 status Today is last day for release criteria/process
discussion. skieske made a rephrase suggestion, about "feature
acceptance review", which was accepted. (bkp, 15:51:22)
  * 3.6 status Updated release criteria/process at
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-November/028875.html
will be posted on wiki and then announced soon. (bkp, 15:51:25)
  * ACTION: bkp to set up new release process page on wiki (bkp,
15:51:28)
  * 3.6 status Still gathering 3.6 features at http://goo.gl/9X3G49, no
feature deadline set yet. (bkp, 15:51:30)
  * 3.6 status Length of release cycle still not confirmed, but
gathering all features anyway to have them in one place. (bkp,
15:51:33)

* conferences and workshops (bkp, 15:51:39)
  * Conferences Notification on FOSDEM stands is on Dec. 15. Still time
to get your devroom submittals in for the virt and IaaS devrooms.
(bkp, 15:53:13)
  * Conferences I am in discussions with FOSSAsia (http://fossasia.org/)
to see about an oVirt workshop at that event in mid-March. This is a
Singapore venue, so if anyone from east Asia is interested in
speaking/attending, let bkp know. (bkp, 15:53:16)
  * Conferences If anyone wants to submit a quick report on DevOpsDays
TLV for the Community blog, that would be welcome! (bkp, 15:53:20)

* other topics  (bkp, 15:54:31)
  * Other A reminder that the U.S. will be offline tomorrow and Friday
for Thanksgiving holiday. (bkp, 15:55:02)
  * Other bkp will be recording demo videos of oVirt beginning after the
holidays. If anyone wants to help/suggest topics, ping me. (bkp,

looking at git log the fix should be in the 3.5.0 GA
so maybe its something else.. can you share the engine.log and vdsm.log for the
time of the failure?

Created a new CentOS 7 VM and indeed it doesn't show the problem at first
sight.
You are right that there was a problem with the ISO Domain going up and
down (for the moment I stopped iptales on engine and this fixed the
problem... going to check further)

The pre-existing one instead (c65new) is ok too now.
I presume there is nothing to run against db or similar to fix the problem
for pre-existing VMs, correct?

Re: [ovirt-users] [Gluster-users] Gluster command [] failed on server...

2014-11-26 Thread Kaushal M
Based on the logs I can guess that glusterd is being started before
the network has come up and that the addresses given to bricks do not
directly match the addresses used in during peer probe.

The gluster_after_reboot log has the line "[2014-11-25
06:46:09.972113] E [glusterd-store.c:2632:glusterd_resolve_all_bricks]
0-glusterd: resolve brick failed in restore".

Brick resolution fails when glusterd cannot match the address for the
brick, with one of the peers. Brick resolution happens in two phases,
1. We first try to identify the peer by performing string comparisions
with the brick address and the peer addresses (The peer names will be
the names/addresses that were given when the peer was probed).
2. If we don't find a match from step 1, we will then resolve all the
brick address and the peer addresses into addrinfo structs, and then
compare these structs to find a match. This process should generally
find a match if available. This will fail only if the network is not
up yet as we cannot resolve addresses.

The above steps are applicable only to glusterfs versions >=3.6. They
were introduced to reduce problems with peer identification, like the
one you encountered

Since both of the steps failed to find a match in one run, but
succeeded later, we can come to the conclusion that,
a) the bricks don't have the exact same string used in peer probe for
their addresses as step 1 failed, and
b) the network was not up in the initial run, as step 2 failed during
the initial run, but passed in the second run.

Please let me know if my conclusion is correct.

If it is, you can solve your problem in two ways.
1. Use the same string for doing the peer probe and for the brick
address during volume create/add-brick. Ideally, we suggest you use
properly resolvable FQDNs everywhere. If that is not possible, then
use only IP addresses. Try to avoid short names.
2. During boot up, make sure to launch glusterd only after the network
is up. This will allow the new peer identification mechanism to do its
job correctly.

If you have already followed these steps and yet still hit the
problem, then please provide more information (setup, logs, etc.). It
could be much different problem that you are facing.

Thanks for the update Brian.

Regarding FC21 support (BZ1163062): Do we speak of engine or nodes?
Hopefully nodes can be installed already with 3.5.x (thumbs up for x<=2).

actually, yes - a similar translation effort is starting right about now
for German in 'master', and we will most likely "backport" these translations
to 3.5 eventually using a script or similar. So we may be able to run that
same script for Italian as well.
so feel free to concentrate your efforts from now on only on 'master', and
once the translation completion on 'master' will be sufficient - we can
"backport" the translations to 3.5 for you.

Re: [ovirt-users] [Gluster-users] Gluster command [] failed on server...

2014-11-26 Thread Punit Dambiwal
Hi Kaushal,

Thanks for the detailed replylet me explain my setup first :-

1. Ovirt Engine
2. 4* host as well as storage machine (Host and gluster combined)
3. Every host has 24 bricks...

Now whenever the host machine reboot...it can come up but can not join the
cluster again and through the following error "Gluster command []
failed on server.."

Please check my comment in line :-

1. Use the same string for doing the peer probe and for the brick address
during volume create/add-brick. Ideally, we suggest you use properly
resolvable FQDNs everywhere. If that is not possible, then use only IP
addresses. Try to avoid short names.

[root@cpu05 ~]# gluster peer status

2. During boot up, make sure to launch glusterd only after the network is
up. This will allow the new peer identification mechanism to do its
job correctly.

2014-11-26 Thread Shanil S
Hi All,

I am using the ovirt version 3.5 and having some issues with the vm startup
with cloud-init using api in run-once mode.

Below is the steps i follow :-

1. Create the VM by API from precreated Template..
2. Start the VM in run-once mode and push the cloud-init data from API..
3. VM stuck and from console it display the following :-
Booting from DVD/CD.. ...
Boot failed : could not read from CDROM (code 004)

I am using the following xml for this operation :-
