Re: [ovirt-users] Move a VM between 2 setups

2016-11-15 Thread Christophe TREFOIS
Hi,

The reason I use this term is because it is indeed 2 engines, or two different
setups / environments.

I’m not talking about moving a VM from a virtual DC to another virtual DC in
the same engine.

Best,

Re: [ovirt-users] Move a VM between 2 setups

2016-11-15 Thread ccox
Export domains are to move VMs between oVirt environments.  As
already mentioned, you attach the export domain to one data center,
export the vm, maint/detach, attach to different data center, attach
and import (then maint/detach, etc.).

The language "export domains 'between' engines" is a bit
confusing...

Hi Daniel,

Fantastic information. Thanks so much for this.

I was already using export domains inside my current engine, but not
sure if it would also work “between” engines so to speak.

Have a great evening!

SUBJECT: Re: [ovirt-users] Move a VM between 2 setups

Hi Christophe,

An “export domain” is made for just this purpose. Create a NFS
(version 3) share and make it accessible to the hypervisors for each
engine. (It should be a dedicated NFS share, not used for anything
else.) As I recall it should be owned by vdsm:vdsm (36:36). In one of
the engines (doesn’t matter which), in the web admin page go to
Storage and add a new NFS based export domain, using the NFS share you
created. Once it’s activated, test it out; try right-clicking on a
VM to “export” it.

Note that there can only be one engine connected to a given export
domain at any one time. When you’re done testing the export domain
on the first engine, you need to put it into “maintenance” and
ultimately “detach” it.

Then go to the other engine, and this time under Storage instead of
“new domain” click “import domain” and enter the same NFS
share information. It should recognize that you already have an export
domain setup under that NFS share.  Attach and activate it, and under
Storage /   / VM Import, try importing the
VM you had previously exported.

This is covered (sparsely) in the oVirt documentation at
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/administration-guide/
[1], and it’s covered more coherently in the commercial RHV
documentation at
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-virtualization/4.0/single/administration-guide#Storage_properties
[2].

Best,

Daniel

SUBJECT: [ovirt-users] Move a VM between 2 setups

Hi,

We have a setup where we want to deploy 2 engines as the network
between 2 buildings is unreliable.

With 2 engines, we then want to be able to move VMs (one time) from
current engine where they are running to new engine in the other
building.

Is there a recommended workflow for doing this?

We have access to shared NFS for this task if required.

Thanks for any pointers,

Christophe

You can mount the snapshot to another VM and copy the image.
We will be adding a image download option in oVirt 4.1.

[ovirt-users] Cannot change notification settings for hosted engine in ovirt 4.0

2016-11-15 Thread George Chlipala
I cannot seem to find any information on how to change the notification
settings, in particular the email adresses to which to send notifications
and the from address for the notifications. I have tried adding a file on
the engine itself in /etc/ovirt-engine/notifier/notifier.conf.d/ and
setting MAIL_FROM. I then restarted the ovirt-engine service, but notices
are still using the old configuration. I even tried restarting the VM, but
that did not have any effect. I have also tried editing
/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/broker.conf however when I restart the
ovirt-ha-broker service, the file is overwritten.

I have found documentation about the shared configuration storage (
http://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/hosted-engine-configuration-on-shared-storage/),
however it is not clear to me where I would edit existing data in the
shared storage. Do I just untar the files, edit, then "retar" to the
shared storage? Do I need to set maintenance mode before editing? Should I
shutdown the engine? After I edit the files, do I just restart the
ovirt-ha-broker service or do I need to do something else?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,
in 4.0.5 if you select "Virtual Machines" tab and then "Snapshots" subtab
you can do clone of the snapshot into a new VM:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvRjJUSEhMM3dveG8/view?usp=sharing

I tried and it worked.
Or did you mean anything different?
You can't do it on the "Current" line (the Active VM) but if the VM is
stopped you can instead do a "Clone VM" from the VM line

Re: [ovirt-users] Move a VM between 2 setups

2016-11-15 Thread Yaniv Dary
In general ever since 3.5 you don't need a export domain to do this.
It is advised you use import storage domain feature to do the same thing.
You create a new storage domain move VM to it and then remove it and attach
it to the new engine.
This should be much faster than the export domain.

I need the snapshot version of machine, but I don't want to revert.

[ovirt-users] ovirt 3.5.5 to 4.x

2016-11-15 Thread Demeter Tibor
Dear users,

We have an ovirt cluster with three nodes and centralized storage.(nfs based).
The clusters based on centos6 os.

We bought some new server for more resources, but we want to upgrade to 4.0 .
Is it possible to make brand new install and import all of VM-s from storage?
The storage will be remain, so I just wondering, I will make a clean install
and connect the storage to this cluster.
Is it possible?

We don't have users, or special settings on this cluster, but I don't want to
make the difficult upgrade process from 3.5 to 4.x and centos 6 to 7.

What is our possibilities?

Thank in advance,

Regards,

Tibor.

The SSL error is due to a bad handling of EOF on the underlying connection
with M2Crypto library:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1383118

You see many of them since ovirt-ha-agent is opening and closing multiple
connections:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1349829

A bit annoying but absolutely harmless.

What I did in the past was to create a nfs share for each engine in
subdirectories on the same filesystem (eg /srv/ovirt/export/beta,
/srv/ovirt/export/production). After exporting from one, log in the the nfs
machine and move (or cp -al) the exported domain from one to the other.
It's pretty much instantaneous since it's the same file system. Saves the
hassle of the disconnect/reconnect.

One note: it seems to me that actually on other occasions when starting
from powered off state it apparently starts but after a few minutes it goes
down and recomes up in a few minutes again
Donna if it depends on single environment setup or if it is true in
general, because it is difficult in general that a global stop of the infra
and clean start is made very often

Re: [ovirt-users] Info on testing ovirt 4.0.5 and gluster

2016-11-15 Thread knarra

Hi Gianluca,

yes, you are right. Now second and third host can be directly added
from UI. Before adding the second and third host please make sure that
the following steps are done for hyperconverged setup.

1) On Hosted engine vm run the command 'engine-config -s
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled=true'

2) Restart ovirt-engine by running the command 'service ovirt-engine
restart'

3) /Edit Cluster/>/Default/>/Enable the gluster service/.

4) Create separate storage domains for each gluster volume. You can see
that hosted_storage gets imported into the UI automatically when one
storage domain is created in the UI.

5) Add second and third host from UI.

Hope this helps

Thanks
kasturi

In the past the command to give on them was

root@host2 # hosted-engine --deploy
and at the end of it
root@host3 # hosted-engine --deploy

But I also seem to remember that perhaps this has been superseded and
possible to direct deploy now host2 and host3 from web admin gui with

Is this true in general? And in particular in my case?

Re: [ovirt-users] [Gluster-users] gluster - Volume quota failed

2016-11-15 Thread Sanoj Unnikrishnan
That's correct Glusterfs manages its own quotas with xattrs. If you create
glusterfs over xfs and set quotas on both, then, both the quota will be
simultaneously active. Hence it would be advisable to only use gluster
quota commands to manage quota.

Hello,
thanks for your answer.
Basically I'm following Jason guide here for 4.0:
https://www.ovirt.org/blog/2016/08/up-and-running-with-ovirt-4-0-and-gluster-storage/

I arrived just before the second/third host deploy actions.
I verified that

1) actually seems already in place
[root@ovengine ~]# engine-config -g AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled: true version: general
[root@ovengine ~]#

3) Already done

2) Already done after step 3)

I see that in Jason guide steps 4) and 5) are reversed.
Are they interchangeable or is that using the web admin deploy method
requires that storage domains are already set up before adding second host?

Both of them could be wrong if in the past you installed DWH.
The right one is:
yum update ovirt-*-setup*

I'm triggering the procedures to fix the two documents.

[ovirt-users] Info on testing ovirt 4.0.5 and gluster

2016-11-15 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm testing hyperconverged setup with gluster and oVirt 4.0.5 and three
hosts and self hosted engine.
I'm at the point where first host is ok and engine up and I have to deploy
second and third host.

In the past the command to give on them was

root@host2 # hosted-engine --deploy
and at the end of it
root@host3 # hosted-engine --deploy

But I also seem to remember that perhaps this has been superseded and
possible to direct deploy now host2 and host3 from web admin gui with Hosts
--> New

Is this true in general? And in particular in my case?

Thanks in advance,

Gianluca

[ovirt-users] Comparing upgrade guide between oVirt and RHEV

2016-11-15 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm just noticing changes in web page for release notes of oVirt 4.0.5:
http://www.ovirt.org/release/4.0.5/

There are now several links to the corresponding official RHEV documents.
I think this is good, especially if they remains not so far each other.

I just noticed 2 things:

1) the command engine-upgrade-check
That I didn't know and seems to work quite good in oVirt 4.0.4
It gives me

[root@ractorshe ~]# yum clean all
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, versionlock

2) Command to upgrade the engine
In oVirt page we have
yum update "ovirt-engine-setup*"

In RHEV we have the command without the star
yum update ovirt-engine-setup

If I remember correctly the star was important in the past
Any comments on this difference? Documentation error or different
functionalities or dependency chain changed so that now it is not necessary
the star also in oVirt?

Is this ok [y/d/N]:

BTW:
In my opinion it is not clear in RHEV documentation that if you have a Self
Hosted Engine environment you have to put global maintenance before
upgrading engine.
Inside the Upgrade Guide it is only covered the specific case when you
migrate from 3.6 to 4.0 the Self Hosted Engine, while in minor upgrades at
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-virtualization/4.0/paged/upgrade-guide/chapter-2-updates-between-minor-releases
it is not specified.

Inside the Self Hosted Engine guide at
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-virtualization/4.0/paged/self-hosted-engine-guide/chapter-5-maintenance-and-upgrading-resources

when describing maintenance modes it is indeed specified
"
The global maintenance mode must be applied for any setup or upgrade
operations that require the engine to be stopped, such as upgrading to a
later version of Red Hat Virtualization.
"
but in my opinion it should be put in clear also inside the Upgrade Guide.
In case let me know how can I open a documentation bug for this if you
agree.

But at least you are notified when you run engine-setup.
In my case during engine-setup I got:

[ INFO ] Checking for an update for Setup...
An update for the Setup packages ovirt-engine-dwh-setup was
found. Please update that package by running:
  "yum update ovirt-engine-dwh-setup"
  and then execute Setup again.
[ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Environment customization': Please
update the Setup packages
[ INFO ] Stage: Clean up

Then

yum update ovirt-engine-dwh-setup

and then upgrade with "engine-setup" again went ok

What are users supposed to do with EPEL repo?
I'm asking for hit this:

[ovirt-users] Upgrade form 4.0.4 to 4.0.5: unable to run VM

2016-11-15 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Single host with self hosted engine.
All seems ok after rebooting host and exiting local maintenance.
But when I try to start a VM I get

VM racclient1 is down with error. Exit message: Unable to get volume size
for domain 556abaa8-0fcc-4042-963b-f27db5e03837 volume

I don't know if it is related, but even after this update I continue to get
the SSL error in vdsmd service:

After a couple of minutes it seems it resolved itself.

This is the sequence of events I see in engine web admin:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvY3pJWWVYUVBVb1k/view?usp=sharing

Boot time was at 14:32 and from image it seems that on 14:39 all should
have been already ok... but perhaps further settlement needed after first
"Storage Pool Manager runs on ." message?
When I tried to start the VM all the storage domains resulted up in
webadmin
