Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Console on Windows 7

2017-01-17 Thread Andy Michielsen
Hello,

I use virt-viewer on my windows machines. And then in the user portal or admin
portal download a console.vv and let virt-viewer run that.
Just right click on a machine an choose open console. Make sure under edit your
using the spice console.

Kind regards.

[ovirt-users] oVirt Console on Windows 7

2017-01-17 Thread Brett Holcomb
On my Windows machine I can run the web portal without issues but I
would like to use the console from the portal on the VMs. I installed
the virt-manager but it if I do

spice://myengine.my.domain:5900 it tells me I can't connect.

I've found a lot of contradictory advice (big surprise! ). Some say I
need to install spice.cab (link does not work and a working link lead to
a site with malware which got blocked).

So what do I need to use a console in the portal in Windows 7?

Also, when will the portal work with Chrome?

Thanks.

Hey Jeramy -

Can you boot anaconda with a serial console or SSH enabled to grab logs? It
would be interesting to see what happens here.

If you specify a disk FIRST and then try to to change the virtual CPU
configuration it will no longer work. Basically if you edit/change/add a disk
and a new window pops up, some stuff that shouldn't have been cleaned up, is
cleaned up and breaks anything that relies on that, like the check to see if
the virtual CPU configuration is valid. A bunch of other stuff as well like
the exception mentioned below.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Guest Agent doesn't work in Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard x86-64

2017-01-17 Thread Julián Tete
Hi Andrea

I tried with this solution:

https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg37420.html

And I input this orders:

Balloon Service oVirt 3.6:

sc config BalloonService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe" DisplayName= "Balloon
Service oVirt 3.6" start= auto

SPICE:

sc config vdservice binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\64\vdservice.exe" DisplayName= "SPICE VDAgent" start= auto

oVirt Service:

sc config OVirtGuestService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe" DisplayName= "OVirt Guest Service" start= auto

This solution corrects the BalloonService error, but oVirt Service doesn't
work yet:

"The OVirt Guest Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some
services stop automatically if they are not in use in use by other services
or programs."

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0.5 reporting dashboard not working.

2017-01-17 Thread Shirly Radco
Hi Andrea,

I believe that dwh not working is unrelated to what Liron mentioned.
Please open a bug on ovirt-dwh and attach the dwh log and ovirt_engine_dwh
db dump, dashboard screenshot.

I will check what is the reason that data is not collected.

Re: [ovirt-users] Scheduled Snapshot and export

2017-01-17 Thread Beckman, Daniel
Strangely enough, I can’t reproduce that issue in 4.0.5.

Anantha, when you say “will not allow us to change anything” what exactly do
you mean?

Does it generate the same “unhandled exception” error as when adding disks or
something else?

I was able to specify 4 vCPUs consisting of 2 sockets (each with dual core) and
it worked fine.

I don’t know of a function built into oVirt for scheduling snapshots.
If you don’t already you may want to setup an export domain (NFS
based), on separate storage.

Just a reminder: snapshots are not backups and they should only be
kept temporarily. We use this tool for backups:

https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup

It’s not the most efficient as it clones a VM from a snapshot, then
exports the clone – so you’re transferring the same data twice. But it
works for our purposes. We have this running in a cron job.

If anyone has come up with a script that uses the newer API to export
a snapshot directly, please share!

We get the same error when adding a disk while creating the VM (In
Chrome, Firefox, and Safari on OS X Sierra client). This is reportedly
fixed in 4.0.6 per this bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1394175

Could someone with 4.0.6 confirm that?

Best,

Daniel

Hello to oVirt Users,

I have few questions.

a. Can we schedule the VM snapshots? If yes, please share the procedure
b. Snapshots are stored on the same storage domain. Can we move them
to another storage domain say NFS domain for additional safety? If,
yes, please share the procedure.

Also, after upgrading to version 4.0.5, at many places, especially
when we are creating a new VM and trying to create a new Disk for the
VM, we keep getting "uncought exception" and the process will not
complete. We have to create a VM, without Disk and then create the
disk separately and attach it to VM.

Is anyone else facing this issue? These sort of issues were not there
in 4.0.4.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0.5 reporting dashboard not working.

2017-01-17 Thread Andrea Ghelardi
Hello Liron,
Thank you for your reply.

So basically our DWH is not creating reports because vdsm is too slow in
collecting results?
I understand the message logged in engine is informational instead of warning,
but still DWH is not working.
Do you have any additional hint about what to check?

Cheers

When a host is "connected" to a storage pool it monitors the active pool
domains. When the domain monitoring results are reported back from the host,
the first monitor run may haven't finished yet. In that case the returned
status from vdsm is a dummy status and not an actual result - when getting such
a status the engine logs it.
We should change that log print to INFO rather then WARN.

Twenty times faster, approx, good to know. Thanks. By the way, if you
want even better performance, then make sure to disable debug and enable
compression:

  connection = sdk.Connection(
...
debug=False,
compress=True,
  )

Hello Juan,

Indeed, you were right. I tried the same from a recent server with a
recent SDK, and I let you have a look :

# rpm -q python-ovirt-engine-sdk4
python-ovirt-engine-sdk4-4.0.1-1.el7.centos.x86_64

# time ./getMvm.py
62

real0m1.004s
user0m0.234s
sys 0m0.031s

And repeating the same test gives a very decent average, so thank you.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0.6 fail to set boottype for ovirtmgmt interface

2017-01-17 Thread Edward Haas
Hello,

For OVS, you should use oVirt 4.1.
You should also note that you may experience problems, as we have not fully
tested it in all scenarios.
There are also some features we do not support with it (like QoS).

Please use the latest version (4.1 is a good start) and let us know how it
goes.

Thanks,
Edy.

Re: [ovirt-users] Scheduled Snapshot and export

2017-01-17 Thread Beckman, Daniel
I don’t know of a function built into oVirt for scheduling snapshots. If you
don’t already you may want to setup an export domain (NFS based), on separate
storage.

Just a reminder: snapshots are not backups and they should only be kept
temporarily. We use this tool for backups:

https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup

It’s not the most efficient as it clones a VM from a snapshot, then exports the
clone – so you’re transferring the same data twice. But it works for our
purposes. We have this running in a cron job.

If anyone has come up with a script that uses the newer API to export a
snapshot directly, please share!

We get the same error when adding a disk while creating the VM (In Chrome,
Firefox, and Safari on OS X Sierra client). This is reportedly fixed in 4.0.6
per this bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1394175

Could someone with 4.0.6 confirm that?

Best,
Daniel

Hello to oVirt Users,
I have few questions.

a. Can we schedule the VM snapshots? If yes, please share the procedure
b. Snapshots are stored on the same storage domain. Can we move them to another
storage domain say NFS domain for additional safety? If, yes, please share the
procedure.

Also, after upgrading to version 4.0.5, at many places, especially when we are
creating a new VM and trying to create a new Disk for the VM, we keep getting
"uncought exception" and the process will not complete. We have to create a VM,
without Disk and then create the disk separately and attach it to VM.

Is anyone else facing this issue? These sort of issues were not there in 4.0.4.

I didn't notice any differing IDs in the logs & it was the same in the
interface (although it wasn't possible to select the 2 listed items
independently, they displayed & acted as a single item).
I've made a note to check the REST API if it occurs in the future, however
my HE has since borked itself & I'm now in the process of
restoring/redeploying it. I've got access to the logs, but the engine & API
are now offline.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0.5 reporting dashboard not working.

2017-01-17 Thread Liron Aravot
When a host is "connected" to a storage pool it monitors the active
pool domains. When the domain monitoring results are reported back
from the host, the first monitor run may haven't finished yet. In that
case the returned status from vdsm is a dummy status and not an actual
result - when getting such a status the engine logs it.
We should change that log print to INFO rather then WARN.

How many times do you see the VM in the REST API? /ovirt-engine/api/vms
If you see two of them, do they have different or the same ID?

Re: [ovirt-users] VM listed twice in oVirt UI

2017-01-17 Thread Doug Ingham
Hi Tomas,

Heh, that seems interesting. Any chance you have the engine and vdsm logs
from the time the second vm has shown up?

I'll see if there's anything shareable in the Engine logs during the window
it happened, however VDSM logs will be difficult as the VMs moved around a
lot whilst I was trying to get everything back online.

BTW if you restart the VM, will one of them disappear? or you will have 2
down VMs?

It's persisted reboots of the VM, hosts and the Engine.

My initial fear was that it was trying to execute the VM twice, however it
turned out to be just a GUI issue. VM management was unaffected.

The best way is to use git, checkout the patch, and build new rpms.
git fetch https://gerrit.ovirt.org/vdsm refs/changes/50/70450/1 && git
checkout FETCH_HEAD

Please keep the old file and check that the diff between the old and new file
match what we see in gerrit.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0.6 fail to set boottype for ovirtmgmt interface

2017-01-17 Thread TranceWorldLogic .
Hi,

I was trying to add host in ovirt 4.0.6 using my cluster mark as OVS.
In 4.0.5, it was able to setup ovirtmgmt interface but in 4.0.6 it fail to
setup interface.

I tried debugging this and found that vdsm generated ifcfg for ovirtmgmt
not have boottype as dhcp.
And hence it fail to bring host in up state,

Here I want to know:
Q> How can I ask configure ovirt-engine or vdsm to add boottype in
ovirtmgmt interface.

In my testing I found a strange behaviour as mention below:
1> In my multiple trial I tried setting ovs property for ovirtmgmt network
and then I tried adding host.
2> I observe that VDSM was able to add ovirtmgmt in OVS but this behaviour
I observed only once.
Q> Please, can someone help me to understand this OVS behaviour, it will
help me to setup everything on OVS? OR
[ In other word, How to setup ovirtmgmt interface on host on OVS bridge ? ]

Thanks,

That link only explains how to import VMs to VMWare, not create OVFs.

You might have to export to VMWare, and then use the VMWare trial period to
export from VMWare itself.

I don't know about these options, I would try to defaults first, unless

You need these if you are connecting to to addresses on the same subnet.

Vdsm will do this automatically if needed, if this is configured properly on
the engine side. Unfortunately I don't know to configure this on the
engine side,
but maybe other users using same configuration know.

The default will probably use only single path for each device, unless you

This means a pv is not accessible, smell like connectivity issue with storage.

[ovirt-users] ovirt 4 reboot behaviour

2017-01-17 Thread Giulio Casella

Hi,
I noticed a different behaviour after upgrading my entire setup from
rhev 3.6.9 to rhev 4.0.5.
A virtual machine reboot changes the host where the VM is running, also
if the VM was started in "run once" mode with a payload specifying a
placement policy. In version 3 the VM didn't change host across a
reboot; and continued running in run once mode, keeping the same payload
given at start time.
Is there a way to keep the VM running on the same host across a reboot,
excluding the obvious (but time consuming) way of migration after reboot?

If not (but this is a request for enhancement), is it possible to
introduce a payload for reboot (just like for "start") to specify the
placement policy?

Thank you in advance,
