Re: [ovirt-users] guest often looses connectivity I have to ping gateway

2017-01-25 Thread Pavel Gashev
Gianluca,

It looks like VM doesn't receive broadcasts. It can be a network topology issue.
Could you double check /sys/class/net/bond1/bonding/mode and
/sys/class/net/bond1/bonding/slaves ?

Is it possible you have another VM with the same MAC address in the same
network segment?

After a few minutes I loose connectivity with the guest. In this case if I
go in guest console and ping the gateway, the connection is resumed. And I
can maintain it if I leave the ping running, otherwise after a little I
again loose connectivity.
I suspect it is not important but the guest is Oracle Linux 6.5 with
3.8.13-16.2.1.el6uek.x86_64 kernel. The adapter for the vnic is the
default; the qemu-kvm command line generated contains this:
-netdev tap,fd=29,id=hostnet0,vhost=on,vhostfd=30 -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=hostnet0,id=net0,mac=00:1a:4a:16:01:51,bus=pci.0,addr=0x3

I seem to remember some years ago when I used the same blades with plain
qemu-kvm/libvirt I had to make up an ethtool setting for similar problems,
but I don't remember what it was... and possibly I used bnx2 kernel module
with the other embedded network interfaces, I'm not sure...
Currently, the configuration for adapter on the blade is

Re: [ovirt-users] Configuring an ISO domain in RHEV 4.0

2017-01-25 Thread paul.greene.va
Thanks - that did it. I noticed the selinux contexts were all different
for the files/folders created by the RHEV manager. Is it safe to assume
if I use the RHEV manager to move files around that the selinux contexts
will automatically get set to the correct permissions?

[ovirt-users] Official Hyperconverged Gluster oVirt upgrade procedure?

2017-01-25 Thread Hanson

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if we have an updated manual or whats the current
procedure for upgrading the nodes in a hyperconverged ovirt gluster pool?

Ie Nodes run 4.0 oVirt, as well as GlusterFS, and hosted-engine running
in a gluster storage domain.

Put node in maintenance mode and disable glusterfs from ovirt gui, run
yum update?

Thanks!

Re: [ovirt-users] Configuring an ISO domain in RHEV 4.0

2017-01-25 Thread Beckman, Daniel
Hi Paul,

Run this:
chown 36:36 /var/lib/exports/iso

Try adding it again in RHEV/oVirt manager. When you add it, it will create a
directory structure underneath your NFS share – something like /images/----/, which is where you need to
put the ISO (or VFD for floppy images) files. And be sure they’re always owned
by 36:36. If you use engine-iso-uploader it will handle that for you.

Subject: [ovirt-users] Configuring an ISO domain in RHEV 4.0

I'm trying to get an ISO domain configured in a new RHEVM manager. I did not
configure it during the initial ovirt-engine-setup, and am manually configuring
it after the fact.

I created an NFS share in /var/lib/exports/iso and dropped a couple of files in
there from elsewhere, just for testing purposes.

On a client system, I can mount the NFS share, but it appears empty.

On the RHEV manager when I try to add an ISO domain, I get this error message:

"Error while executing action Add Storage Connection: Permission settings on
the specified path do not allow access to the storage.
Verify permission settings on the specified storage path."

I suspect the selinux permissions aren't set right. This is what they are
currently configured to:

On the folder itself
[root@hostname iso]# ll -dZ .
drwxr-xr-x. root root system_u:object_r:nfs_t:s0

On the two files in the folder:

[root@hostname iso]# ll -Z
-rwxrw-rw-. root root unconfined_u:object_r:nfs_t:s0
sosreport-LogCollector-20170117092344.tar.xz
-rwxrw-rw-. root root unconfined_u:object_r:nfs_t:s0 test.txt

Is this correct? If not what should they be set to?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] spice inside spice and Shift F12

2017-01-25 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
sometimes it happens that I open a spice console from a browser that
actually is itself inside a VM and connected through a spice console
session.
So Shift+F12 doesn't work at all and to exit from this inner console I have
to shutdown the VM so I loose the focus and I regain it inside the first
spice session.

It seems in the past I used some kind of combination to override this
(probably in plain libvirt+Qemu/KVM and not in oVirt) but I don't
remember...
Could I set for example a different combination for the two environments to
exit console, so that they don't contrast with one another?

Re: [ovirt-users] posix compliant fs with ceph rbd

2017-01-25 Thread Logan Kuhn
We prefer Ceph too and we've got our ovirt instance configured in two
different ways.

1. Openstack Cinder, each VM's disk will have a single volume in ceph with
all volumes being under the same pool.
2. Export an RBD via NFS from a gateway machine, this can be a trivially
small physical or virtual machine that just exports the NFS share that is
pointed at whatever RBD you choose to use.

Not a direct answer to your question, but hopefully it helps.

Logan

[ovirt-users] posix compliant fs with ceph rbd

2017-01-25 Thread Yura Poltoratskiy
Hi,

I want to use Ceph with oVirt in some non standard way. The main idea is to
map rbd volume to all computes and to get the same block device, say
/dev/foo/bar, across all nodes, and then use "POSIX compliant file systems"
option to add Storage Domain.

Am I crazy? If not, what should I do next: create a file system on top of
/dev/foo/bar, say XFS, and add DATA Domain as POSIX compliant? Does it
work, I mean does oVirt compatible with not clustered file system in this
scenario?

Mostly, I want to use rbd like oVirt do with iSCSI storage just to have
scalability and high availability (for example, when one storage node
failed).

Thanks for advice.

PS. Yes, I know about Gluster but want to use Ceph :)

I did note one thing that appears to be fixed: the QEMU agent service is
properly setup and runs (it had to be manually started in previous versions.)
The oVirt and Spice services start up as expected.

Can we switch to GB, or change the input workflow so that there is a field

Is the documentation described here up 2 date for 4.0.6 and/or 4.1?

Is live migration possible for a vm with shared disks?
The disks seem to be only raw.. does this mean that if I edit a qcow2 disk

Any particular hint for usage of shared disks functionality to test RHCS

I'm running a cluster of oVIRT on 4.0.6 and we are using purely NFS storage

can't seem to figure out is when I go to create a Pool from a template it
fails. I have tried to export the template to export domain, then delete
the template and re-import the template, however it fails with the logs
below from the engine.log. It appears to give error message trying to
create snapshot from Template? We use to be on a gluster volumes be we
migrated everything off gluster. I don't see any mention of gluster errors
below so hoping someone might have an idea?

Re: [ovirt-users] [ANN] oVirt 4.1.0 First Release Candidate is now available

2017-01-25 Thread Beckman, Daniel
I tested this on a Windows 2012 R2 (x64) DataCenter VM, newly built, on oVirt
4.0.5.

It suffers from the same bug that’s been present since at least oVirt 3.6: The
Balloon service is setup with the wrong path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\w2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe"

The correct path being:

C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe"

Note the small typo: “w2k12R2” when the actual files are under “2k12R2”. The
fix is much the same as before:

sc config BalloonService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe" DisplayName= "Balloon Service"
start= auto

How is it that this bug persists? Is it being actively tracked? I found
reference to someone possibly having “a look” but no follow-up:

http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2016-June/073690.html

I did note one thing that appears to be fixed: the QEMU agent service is
properly setup and runs (it had to be manually started in previous versions.)
The oVirt and Spice services start up as expected.

Thanks,
Daniel

I guess it should work - briefly tested it on a 4.0 and didn't notice
problems. Please file bugs if you find them. Thanks!

[ovirt-users] Usage of Alerts, Events, Task information

2017-01-25 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
there are some alerts that are automatically hidden (such as when I
configure Power mgmt, the previous related alert go away), but not all.

where to find info about their mgmt?
I don't see anything special in "Introduction to Administration Portal" in
RHEV 4.0 docs. Only that it is named "Alerts/Events Pane"

If I go to the line and right click I have

Dismiss
Delete All
Display All

How do they act exactly?
If I select Display All, I get again what was automatically hidden (eg
backup missing alerts and power mgmt conf missing alerts): how to re-hid
them (I imagine dismiss, but I would like a global dismiss not one-by-one).

Difference between dismiss and delete?
Thanks in advance

[ovirt-users] Translate hint

2017-01-25 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm checking Italian Translation in 4.0.6 and completing it for 4.1 (now at
92%).
Suppose I found an untranslated / bad translated word: what is the best and
quick way to go to Zanata and find the reference for it and correct?
For example in 4.0.6 I'm in dashboard and at bottom I have the three labels

Alert, Events, Tasks

I click ALerts and then I want to dismiss an Alert because it happened
while I was configuring Power Management: I faked the password to verify
that the test failed and I got the alert

Power Management test failed for Host .

I rght click on the alert line and I see three options and the first and
third one are untranslated

they are

Dismiss Alert
Display All

(I'm going to send a separate e-mail to ask about alerts and events in
general).

If I go to Zanata, select oVirt 4.0 and Italian language line and use the
search function I don't find anything
I see there is an option to
Download All for Offline Translation
and
Export Italian Documents to TMX
I have not tried them yet, but I would prefer to directly correct online
while I find some things to correct.

Re: [ovirt-users] Large DWH Database, how to empty

2017-01-25 Thread Shirly Radco
Please see at the to of this section:
"The following is a list of options for configuring application settings
for the Data Warehouse service. These options are available in the
/usr/share/ovirt-engine-dwh/services/ovirt-engine-dwhd/ovirt-engine-dwhd.conf
file. *Configure any changes to the default values in an override file
under /etc/ovirt-engine-dwh/ovirt-engine-dwhd.conf.d/. Restart the Data
Warehouse service after saving the changes."*

So you need to add a file under
*/etc/ovirt-engine-dwh/ovirt-engine-dwhd.conf.d/*
The file name is not important. It should end with ".conf"

when powermanagement is not configured for a host? the alerts are

Re: [ovirt-users] 4.0 x 4.1

2017-01-25 Thread Pavel Gashev
Didi,

For example, BZ#1389251. It doesn’t look very serious. Actually “User is not
able to edit her profile” is a side effect. Since users logged in by LDAP group
permissions just did not have accounts in the engine, users did lose their
access to created VMs after logout. This was a showstopper for me. Together
with BZ#1382357 and BZ#1391146 User Portal was unusable. Fixes are simple and
don’t affect the DB structure.

The latest nightly snapshot was broken by BZ#1402401 at the moment. I didn’t
feel myself lucky enough to have the next snapshot without new regressions. So
I had applied the fixes to 4.0.5.5.

Actually, you can do that proactively - if you consider upgrading to
some version, you can search bugzilla for bugs targetted to the next
one, and if any of them look serious, wait.

See my earlier reply in this thread about the risks you take by doing that.

That said, if that's what you want, you can also use the 4.0 nightly snapshot:

https://www.ovirt.org/develop/dev-process/install-nightly-snapshot/

Was using this significantly different than what you built yourself?

[ovirt-users] vdsClient is removed and replaced by vdsm-client

2017-01-25 Thread Irit Goihman
Hi All,

vdsClient will be removed from master branch today.
It is using XMLRPC protocol which has been deprecated and replaced by
JSON-RPC.

A new client for vdsm was introduced in 4.1: vdsm-client.
This is a simple client that uses JSON-RPC protocol which was introduced in
ovirt 3.5.

The client is not aware of the available methods and parameters, and you
should consult
the schema [1] in order to construct the desired command.

Future version should parse the schema and provide online help.

If you're using vdsClient, we will be happy to assist you in migrating to
the new vdsm client.

*vdsm-client usage:*

vdsm-client [-h] [-a ADDRESS] [-p PORT] [--unsecure] [--timeout TIMEOUT]
   [-f FILE] namespace method [name=value [name=value] ...]

Invoking simple methods:

# vdsm-client Host getVMList
['b3f6fa00-b315-4ad4-8108-f73da817b5c5']

For invoking methods with many or complex parameters, you can read
the parameters from a JSON format file:

# vdsm-client Lease info -f lease.json

where lease.json file content is:

{

  "lease": {

  "sd_id": "75ab40e3-06b1-4a54-a825-2df7a40b93b2",

  "lease_id": "b3f6fa00-b315-4ad4-8108-f73da817b5c5"

  }

  }

It is also possible to read parameters from standard input, creating
complex parameters interactively:

# cat

Create a 99-whatever-you-like.conf file in /etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d with
the following content:

  SSO_ALTERNATE_ENGINE_FQDNS="thealias"

Then restart the engine:

  systemctl restart ovirt-engine

This setting is documented here:

you can try with

The console commands now directly points to the serial console and it's
intended to bu run on the host where the engine VM is running for
troubleshooting activities: it's text only but you don't need any graphical
subsystem on the host you are going to use.

Then you could still connect with remote viewer from an external machine
but you have to identify the right port and the protocol;
if you are using spice you need also to download the right certificates.
Could you please open an RFE to print out the list of command to connect
from a remote client with remote viewer in the output of hosted-engine
--console ?

Re: [ovirt-users] [Spice-devel] Video performance

2017-01-25 Thread Sven Achtelik
Hi,

where would I have to add this:

I mean which file or is it somewhere in the config ?

I found something that sounds like it would do the same. What do you think
about that ?

http://www.jieyung.com/en/faq.asp?newsclassid=377=508

It's written for 3.5 and does something before the VM start with a hook to
change that. Would that also work in 4.06 or is there a more elegant way to
do this ?

Thank you,

Sven

You could try enabling the streaming mode, disabled by default in el7 due
different issues (see [0])

[0] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1294564

To enable the streaming mode, you should include that inside the graphics
node, see mine bellow for an example. Options are 'off', 'all'
and 'filter'.
