[ovirt-users] Re: vm with disks on multiple glusterfs domains fails if a gluster host goes down
ok I think I figured out what is happening... I am currently running some redundancy tests on ovirt+replica2+arbiter glusterfs This is happening under small file 4k fio random write test. like this fio --randrepeat=1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=1 --gtod_reduce=1 --name=test --filename=test --bs=4k --iodepth=32 --size=5G --readwrite=randwrite I have raid 6 on all 3 gluster servers with capacitor backed raid cache. But it seems that write back cache is not a good option for vm's, when a gluster node went down vm became non responsive, and never recovered.. at some point the whole virtual disk became a mess and had to be deleted. Changing RAID controller cache to write-through and ping timeout on gluster volume network.ping-timeout to 10 seconds seems to improve things.. Still large shard block sizes (128MB and above) sometimes get the vm in a paused like situation like this.. kernel:NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#4 stuck for 22s! [fio:3232] Small shard block sizes while being slower handling the situation a lot better.. almost no pausing of the vm and a consistent performance. It seems here that the only "safe" option after quite a lot of testing is to have shard block size at 8mb with all disks on one volume. It seems larger shard block sizes, and multiple disks on various volume get the vm non responding and disks trashed.. This setup seems to work for me for the max reliability I can get with libgfapi.. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/ELIQK2VCLHX7J6P2N7GOIUD4M3MZVE5J/

[ovirt-users] Question on gluster sharding maturity/stability
I'm currently running oVirt 4.1 (with gluster 3.8.15) and as this is a cluster which has been upgraded from (I believe) oVirt 3.5 originally, the storage volumes use old "Optimize for Virt Store" configuration of not enabling sharding. I see now that the oVirt 4.1 "optimize" configuration does enable sharding, but I am a bit wary after seeing some horror stories from about a year ago about corruptions and data loss caused by sharding in earlier gluster versions. Is the gluster associated with oVirt 4.1 now at a stable point that I can and should trust sharding? I plan on doing some simple experimenting first, but I see a great benefit to balancing distributed-replicated volumes and for healing times and I would like to take advantage of these benefits now. Since the ovirt engine is now 'recommending' the use of sharding for disk store volumes, this leads me to believe that it is trusted by the oVirt crew. Does this seem accurate? ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/XZEVEJ5VOY5R3QNCEPILHHGZOXNN/

[ovirt-users] Re: Failed to synchronize networks of Provider ovirt-provider-ovn
I have a same issue with OVN provider and SSL, but certificate changes not helps to resolve it. I use following https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.2/html/administration_guide/appe-red_hat_enterprise_virtualization_and_ssl#Replacing_the_Manager_SSL_Certificate to replace my cert, and after reboot get this error. ovirt-ca-file= is a same SSL file which use WebUI. I restart ovirt-provider-ovn, i restart engine, i restart everything what i can restart. Nothing helps... Logs below. [ovirt-users] oVirt + gluster with JBOD
Hi! I am thinking about using some spare servers I have for a hyperconverged oVirt + gluster. Only problem with these servers is that the RAID card is not specially good, so I am considering using gluster in a JBOD configuration. JBOD is supported for recent versions of gluster, but I am not sure if this configuration is supported by oVirt, or if there are any special considerations I should take into account. Anyone running oVirt + gluster with JBOD who can comment on this? [ovirt-users] Re: Gluster deployment - Arbiter volume - different disk size - volumes sizes
For the engine, you will need at least 58 GB. I always use 62 just to be on the safe side. If you use 50, your install will fail. You don't need an ISO domain. ISO files can be stored in "data" or "vmstore". Each vm you create should have 2 disks, 1 for the o/s & 1 for the data. The o/s disk goes in "vmstore", the data disk goes in "data". ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/XQ4AWPVS5GG263TFPLK67MHNBWRSSHI6/

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster deployment - Arbiter volume - different disk size - volumes sizes
You don't really need a data and vmstore. Vmstore I believe iaeamt to be the new iso domain but even it is not needed as all data domains act the same. You can use a seperate data and vmstore domain because it will give you greater flexibility in terms of backing up thr volumes so you can choose to backup just the vm data and not images On Wed, Sep 12, 2018, 5:30 AM florentl, wrote: > Hello, > I have one more question for the gluster deployment. > I have three servers with different disk sizes : > - server1 : 3 x SSD configured in raid 5 mode for a total capacity of 900 > GB > - server2 : 6 x SSD configurerd in raid 6 mode for a total capacity of > 2,2 TB > - server3 : same as server2 (2,2TB) > Because my server1 has less capacity than the others I will use it as an > arbiter volume (during the deployment I will declare it as the last host > : host3). > Is-it correct ? > > So I will create 4 volumes : > - engine : 50 GB type replicated without arbiter > - data : ?? > - vmstore : ??? > - iso : 15 GB replicated with arbiter volume > > Can someone tell me what are the differences between data and vmstore > volume ? Hi, 1. Please check whether you have downloaded the CA certificate in your browser (This can be found when accessing your engine -> Downloads -> CA Certificate. 2. Please ensure you are not trying to upload the image via a WIFI connection (If you are you this will cause the operation to pause and you will need to resume it mulitple times) 3. Try to Resume the operation by highlighting the paused operation and from the menu select to resume it. [ovirt-users] Gluster deployment - Arbiter volume - different disk size - volumes sizes
Hello, I have one more question for the gluster deployment. I have three servers with different disk sizes : - server1 : 3 x SSD configured in raid 5 mode for a total capacity of 900 GB - server2 : 6 x SSD configurerd in raid 6 mode for a total capacity of 2,2 TB - server3 : same as server2 (2,2TB) Because my server1 has less capacity than the others I will use it as an arbiter volume (during the deployment I will declare it as the last host : host3). Is-it correct ? So I will create 4 volumes : - engine : 50 GB type replicated without arbiter - data : ?? - vmstore : ??? - iso : 15 GB replicated with arbiter volume Can someone tell me what are the differences between data and vmstore volume ? In the earlier version there was only information about data volume and export volume. I found nothing about vmstore volume. If the wmstore is, as its name suggests, the place where all vm files will be stored including vm disks images, I think I have to set most of the capacity for this volume. So at the end my 4 volumes will be : - engine : 50 GB type replicated without arbiter - data : 500 TB replicated with arbiter volume - vmstore : 1,5 TB replicated with arbiter volume - iso : 15 GB replicated with arbiter volume What do you think of this ?
