[ovirt-users] Re: i/o wait and slow system

2020-08-23 Thread info--- via Users
Setting cluster.choose-local to on helped a lot to improve the read
performance. Write performance still bad.

Am I right that this look then more like a glusterfs issue and not something
what need to be changed on ovirt (libgfapi) or on VMs.

Changing tcp offloading did not make any difference.
- ethtool --offload enp1s0f0 rx off tx off
- ethtool --offload enp1s0f0 rx on tx on

MTU 9000 is fine and ping is working.
- ping -M do -s 8972 another-gluster-node

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt SHE smart-automated backup

2020-08-23 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
I don't see any reasons to be worried about.
Yet, you can create your own Cluster scheduling policy and ensure one node is
always available as a stand-by which you can just put into maintenance during
backups , or to hold your VMs when other hosts are in maintenance.

Hi Strahil,

That's true. I do trust migration mechanism, its proven to work smoothly
many-many times, but I do not like moving SHE VM unless I have too.
Proper backup is important and I try to follow oVirt recommendation, but if I
can avoid needless "shaking" of the platform, I would rather take that route.

    Actually,
you don't need  to find where the SHE is.
Once you setup the host in maintenance, all VMs including the SHE will be
evacuated out of there.

[ovirt-users] POWER9 (ppc64le) Support on oVirt 4.4.1

2020-08-23 Thread Vinícius Ferrão via Users
Hello, I was using oVirt 4.3.10 with IBM AC922 (POWER9 / ppc64le) without any
issues.

Since I’ve moved to 4.4.1 I can’t add the AC922 machine to the engine anymore,
it complains with the following error:
The host CPU does not match the Cluster CPU type and is running in degraded
mode. It is missing the following CPU flags: model_POWER9, powernv.

Any ideia of what’s may be happening? The engine runs on x86_64, and I was
using this way on 4.3.10.

Machine info:
timebase: 51200
platform: PowerNV
model : 8335-GTH
machine : PowerNV 8335-GTH
firmware: OPAL
MMU : Radix

Thanks,

I confirm that I was able to complete this kind of nested installation:
physical environment is a 4.3.10 single host HCI.
Inside this physical environment I configured a VM to be a 4.4.2 rc4
hypervisor as a single host HCI too, with two disks, 120Gb and 150Gb (the
second one, dedicated to gluster volumes, preallocated)
Gluster wizard for single node completed successfully and nested engine VM
correctly accessible.

This was the same physical environment where previously a similar install
of nested 4.4.1 on physical 4.3.9 failed, as discussed here due to tsx-ctrl
cpu flag missing:

I had same issue when tried to migrate Vm from ESXi to oVirt v4.4.2RC4
I found that crypto policy for EL8 by default is strong
https://access.redhat.com/articles/3642912

For fix I set policy to LEGACY at proxy host
   update-crypto-policies --set LEGACY
and reboot the host

[ovirt-users] Re: Incremental VM backups

2020-08-23 Thread Hector Gonnzalez
phthon scripts is a easy way to backup ovirt vms, but as you say, you cannot do
incremental backup with it. you may check Vinchin, it can do incremental backup
and differential backup, and you can set time schedule for incremental backup,
kind of automated.
