Hi,

After I add a new host to newly setup ovirt-engine, after reboot of
new host, the status is set to Non Operational

2012-May-16, 15:10:00 Detected new Host ovirt-node2. Host state was
set to Non Operational.
2012-May-16, 15:10:00 Host ovirt-node2 does not comply with the
cluster Default networks, the following networks are missing on host:
'ovirtmgmt,'

Re: [Users] Networking in Ovirt 3.1

2012-05-16 Thread Roy Golan

On 05/15/2012 09:48 PM, Sigurður Björnsson wrote:

Good afternoon.

My name is Sigurdur Bjornsson and I'm a systems administrator at
Nyherji in Iceland.
Let me begin by apologising for contacting you directly. I'm just not
sure which mailing list
I should use for my question and your name popped up around the Ovirt
network features design.

I have been playing around with Ovirt 3.0 / RHEV 3.0 and there are two
things that are showstoppers
in my opinion. The first one is the fact that it's not possible to
expand/grow virtual disks, just add new ones.

My second problem is that in our environment the IBM HS22V blade
server is the preferred virtualization
platform. These servers have two network interfaces and I'm unable to
configure them in a redundant way.
What I would like to do is to bond those interfaces together and put
both the rhev management network
and my other VLANs on the same bond. It seems to me that the
management network cannot coexist

with other networks on the same adapter. (Or not a bond at least).

eth0 -- -- rhevm (tagged)
  |-- bond0 --|-- VLANX
eth1 -- -- VLANY

Do you know if these problems are solved in Ovirt 3.1?
In case they are still present in 3.1, where could I create a request
for enhancement?

I can't wait for the day when we can put RHEV in production... :o)

Hi Sigurður

Thanks for dropping me that mail. about your issues:

1. Dynamically changing the disk size you requested is not supported,
however you can chose to create your disk
as thin provisioning with a size bigger than what you currently need,
say 80Gb. The amount of space that will be used is only 1Gb and it'll
grow with your usage.

2. you network scenario is correct and we addressed just that in 3.1 and
its called setup networks
http://www.ovirt.org/wiki/Features/Design/Network .

you can get it working with the latest ovirt builds.

For further help - ovirt is an open source project and as one we run
mailing lists for users, contributers, developers to have their questions
and discussions. all getting attention.
Also we have a chat room where you can get immediate (almost :) )
response. all the details here - http://www.ovirt.org/project/community/

Hope this helps,
Roy

Thanks for an update. Can I have KVM hypervisors also function as storage nodes
for glusterfs? What is a release date for glusterfs support? We're looking for
a production deployment in June. Thanks

current status is
1. patches for provisioning gluster clusters and volumes via ovirt are
in review, trying to cover this feature set [1].
I'm not sure if all of them will make the ovirt 3.1 version which is
slated to branch for stabilization June 1st, but i think enough is there.
so i'd start trying current upstream version to help find issues
blocking you, and following on them during june as we stabilize ovirt
3.1 for release (planned for end of june).

2. you should be able to use same hosts for both gluster and virt, but
there is no special logic/handling for this yet (i.e., trying and
providing feedback would help improve this mode).
I would suggest start from separate clusters though first, and only
later trying the joint mode.

3. creating a storage domain on top of gluster:
- expose NFS on top of it, and consume as a normal nfs storage domain
- use posixfs storage domain with gluster mount semantics
- future: probably native gluster storage domain, up to native
  integration with qemu

can you please describe the use case you are trying to accommodate?

thanks,
   Itamar

there are two parts to the support:
1. managing the gluster hosts/storage/volumes - patches for different
parts of this in gerrit - but not needed for first phase of using this.
2. using gluster as a posix fs - vdsm side is ready, and iirc, engine
done by laszlo who can share when test patches can be used for testing this

Small correction - patches are not at gerrit (referring to Posix FS at
engine side)

3. integrating both together - a bit later :)

I'll let someone else reply on the below, but as for ovirt-gluster
integration - yes, it is in the works.
this gives a general picture of the work being carried out:
http://www.ovirt.org/wiki/AddingGlusterSupportToOvirt

Attempted to implement a scheme of work -glusterfs mounted on a
node in a folder mount glusterfs connected via NFS to ovirt.

It works =)

Now try to mount NFS to 127.0.0.1 and encountered an error:

Command:

[root@noc-4-m77 ~] # / bin / mount-o soft, timeo = 600, retrans = 6,
nosharecache, vers = 3 -t nfs 127.0.0.1 :/share/tmp /tmpgcOezk

Error:

mount.nfs: Unknown error 521

NFS V4 is disabled.

In this mount:

/bin/mount -t nfs 127.0.0.1:/share/ tmp/tmpgtsoetsk is successful.

I understand that this is not a problem ovirt, but you might prompt
any ideas how to fix it?

To use glusterfs in overt to execute a commandL

Mount -t glusterfs -o log-level = WARNING, log-file =
/var/log/gluster.log noc-1 :/mht / /share

I can prescribe it in vdsm that it was carried out instead of
/bin/mount-o soft, timeo = 600, retrans = 6, nosharecache, vers = 3
-t nfs 127.0.0.1:/share/tmp/tmpgtsOetsk

Re: [Users] Host can't join the cluster

2012-05-16 Thread Dan Kenigsberg
How difficult would it be for Engine to handle the true
version-release of vdsm?

As a stop-gap measure, Engine could convert the reported version-release
into the floating point numbers it can handle. The same stop-gap could
be done on Vdsm side, but I consider this as a step backward.

Re: [Users] [Spice-devel] USB support

You may want to first play a bit with this using Fedora-16 host +
client to see how all the bits fit together, a quick start for
 Fedora-16 is here:
 http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/11084.html

It seems to work with F16 host (spicy -h localhost -p 5902 shows relevant
menus),
thanks! But I could not test with a real USB device, because there are no USB
devices
plugged in a remote server. Is it possible to connect to a remote host, not
localhost,
with spicy? 5902 port is only opened on 127.0.0.1 by qemu-kvm.

[Users] Problem with Fedora16-guest

2012-05-16 Thread ovirt
May be it is not ovirt-vdsm problem, but Fedora16-guest (minimal install) don't
start. Instalation is OK, but after boot it freeze before login screen. It can
boot in recovery mode but message file is empty.

How is it possible to fix?

i used
qemu-kvm 0.15 and 1.0
libvirt-0.9.11.3-1.fc16.x86_64
all nodes are fedora16

Sure, Just tell qemu/libvirt where spice server should be binded, for example:
Add element listen type='address' address='0.0.0.0'/ as child element of
graphics element and spice server will listen on all interfaces (or choose
only exact IP address where you want it to be binded).
 or
Add option addr=0.0.0.0 into spice qemu command line options directly
 provided you run qemu-kvm manually.
 (Hope I understood the question).

Yes, it helped, thanks!
Is it possible to achieve something like that with ovirt? I tried using spicy
instead of
spicec with spice-xpi plugin, but it didn't work.

ovirt support for usb redirection is brewing. You could probably write a
vdsm custom hook for usb redir dev creation in the meanwhile.

or test the patches in ovirt for doing that which are in review already
for engine support of enabling this flag, then the user portal support
will be added (should be a matter of weeks)
