 Hi all,

 Have another round to build oVirt from source following;

 Building Engine Draft
 http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Building_Engine_Draft
Why are you using this draft and not the official
http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Building_oVirt_engine ?

On my 1st round building oVirt I used the official document and encountered
problems.  Then Juan told me to follow;
http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Building_Engine_Draft

On this round, 2nd round, I followed Building_Engine_Draft

OS - Fedora 17 desktop 64bit, fresh and clean installed.

Not much problem encountered up to Installing JBoss AS except
 follows:

 1)

It's fixed at http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Building_oVirt_engine

In case of REPLICATE and STRIPE volume type, we suppose to get integer value in

1. output of 'rpm -qa | grep glusterfs'
2. output of 'gluster volume info' command

However we are in the process of using xml output

Next try will be a replicated volume.

To follow up on my post. Using a replicated volume works too ;-)

Wat didn't work was starting a VM until I used setenforce 0
Here are my installed vdsm packages. They are pushed by the engine.

[Users] Wiki and Mailing Lists Outage -- 2012-11-14

2012-11-14 Thread Mike Burns
We experienced an outage today in both the wiki and the mailing lists.

* Wiki content was available throughout the outage, but attempts to
login or edit received an error message about requiring cookies to be
enabled.
* All mails to the mailing list failed to show up on the lists, but
also did not return rejection messages.

Cause:

This was caused by an Out of Space error on the host running both of
these services. A temporary workaround was put in place to get both
services up and running again.

Action Taken:

Remove the oldest gerrit backup (600MB)
Remove some older non-functional ovirt-node-iso images and rpms from the
releases (source remains there)

Long term solution:

Migrating these services away from a single host onto hosted solutions
(OpenShift, AlterWay).

Current Situation:

Wiki is back up and running, login works as expected
Lists are processing the backlog of emails since the outage began.
At this time, it does not appear that any mail was lost due to the
outage.

Thanks for the patience and understanding

Mike

Re: [Users] Ovirt 3.1 and Samba4 AD

2012-11-14 Thread Charlie
The domainInfrastructure wiki page is helpful. The examples are
great. It has enough information to understand how oVirt formats an
LDAP filter string, for example, which is very important. The
constant use of the word domain is confusing, though.

People outside the Microsoft world don't know that Microsoft
documentation uses three different definitions of domain, sometimes in
the same document. Most people will probably just assume you mean an
IANA domain.

I've worked with LDAP for over ten years, and I read the oVirt
domainInfrastructure page three or four times but I still couldn't
figure out why it kept talking about domains and LDAP at the same time
until I took a week of AD classes and studied a couple of O'Reilly AD
books.

For example, when the oVirt wiki talks about root DSE for domain it
doesn't make sense to anyone who isn't already familiar with AD. A
rootDSE describes the configuration of a DSA instance (LDAP server
daemon) as defined in RFC4512 section 5.1, and doesn't have anything
to do with domains. The word domain does not occur in RFC4512 or
RFC2251 at all. The page doesn't explain why oVirt needs a domain and
a root DSE to have any special relationship. ISPs load information
for hundreds of IANA domains under a single root DSE and it's not a
problem; I've done five domains in one DSA under one root DSE.

If there was an oVirt wiki page called LDAP or
DirectoryInfrastructure, that page could explain if domains really
need to be part of oVirt, and if so which kind of domain, and then
link the current domainInfrastructure page. Or it could link a
separate page for each directory supported by oVirt, and the current
domainInfrastructure page could become an activeDirectory page and
retain all the AD-specific language.

Oved, totally agree about externalizing the configuration. Also I
like Roy Golan's recommendation of a wiki design page, because I can
probably offer more in the design phase than the actual coding phase.
I know the OpenLDAP schema interface rather well, and I have my own
OID so I can define globally useful oVirt schema for you if you'd like
to go that route.

You guys are always very helpful and encouraging, which is why this
project moves so fast.

 payload type='cdrom'
 file name='my.txt'

I was wondering if anyone knows how to use VM payload to set static IP

[Users] cannot add new logical network to host

2012-11-14 Thread Alan Johnson
I am trying to add a network for a sandbox environment that only certain
VMs will have access to and those VMs will not have access to the rest of
our network. This is to allow new systems to be tested in a safe
environment where they can't possibly muck with our live systems. I'm

Taskshttps://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.1-Beta/html-single/Administration_Guide/index.html#sect-Logical_Network_Tasksin
the Admin guide but I keep getting an error when adding to the host.
 Here is what I'm doing:

Under Data Centers Default Logical Networks New, I create a new
logical network called sandbox, VM network is checked, VLAN network is
checked and VLAN ID is 2. .
Under Clusters Default Logical Networks Assign/Unassign Networks, I
check Assign but not Required and sandbox appears in the list.
Under Hosts cloudhost01 Network Interfaces Setup Host Networks, I
drag sandbox to the em1 interface which is also where ovirtmgmt is
assigned. There is am em2 interface, but that is dedicated to iSCSI
storage and has no Logical Networks assigned to it.
I check Save network configuration, leave Verify connectivity between
Host and ovirt-engine checked, click OK and I get Error: cloudhost01: -

This may not be relevant, but in my event log I get cloudhost01 is missing
vlan id: 2 that is expected by the cluster warnings when I activate
cloudhost01 while the sandbox network exists. I have tired doing things
with different orders and tweaks all resulting in the same error. Here are

you are not missing anything, we still don't have the ovirt-reports rpm
as the jaspersoft 4.7 community edition wasn't out when we released
ovirt 3.1 (was just released two weeks ago, and it is in the works if
you want to chime in and help).
iirc, there are some manual steps you can take to install jaspersoft,
import the reports, etc.

If I understand you correctly, you try to add a new VM-VLANed network (sandbox)

If so, this operation is not permited. You can't attach VM-VLANed network and

To be sure that this is a case, I need to know your vdsm version
