Re: [Users] VM has paused due to unknown storage error

2012-12-03 Thread Yeela Kaplan
It seems that your guest file system is corrupted.
The dd approach won't help cause this is a virtual disk,
you need to fix the virtual disk inside the lv, that's why any operations on
the lv won't help.
You can try shutting down the vm (not paused, but literally down) and add the
guest vm disk as
a second disk to another vm.
In the second vm try to run fsck on the disk and see if it helps.
In any case before trying to manipulate the disk image please save a backup!!!
let me know how it goes...

One of our cr itical Linux VMs ran out of disk space. I cleared up

Shortly after this message the the guest is p aused by oVirt and the

Re: [Users] VM has paused due to unknown storage error

2012-12-03 Thread David Wilson

Hi everyone,

Some feedbackon this error, and a question I hope that someone could
possibly assist with.
I managed to get the guest running again byusing dd and qemu-img to
export the filesystem image and base image, convert to raw format and
run a fsck on the looped partition.

When mounted as a loop filesystem, fsck easily repaired it.

Any ideas why oVirt kept pausing the guest and did not allow fsck to
repair the filesystem?

Hi Adrian,
Your domain ('033a2b87-def7-4c27-ab74-9860531f2ed4') is probably NFS.
Don't worry about the failed vgs errors, it is not the problem.
Please attach the full vdsm and engine logs so we can detect why the domain is
set to
maintenance after reboot.

I've debugged the lvm vgs failed part. It seems to run this command:

[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
 --separator \| -o
 uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

 Volume group 033a2b87-def7-4c27-ab74-9860531f2ed4 not found

If I run the same commands without arguments I found out the current
 VGs:

[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
 --separator \| -o
 uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

So I try to run it with the uuid seen:
[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
 --separator \| -o
 uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

 Na9Bdu-aELy-1G3m-JgcV-dBYM-PfaP-arsvUo not found
it says it cannot find it.

 Now with the name:
[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
 --separator \| -o
 uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free
 maquinasVG
 Na9Bdu-aELy-1G3m-JgcV-dBYM-PfaP-arsvUo|maquinasVG|wz--n-|1989115117568|406419668992|4194304|474242|96898||1048064|522240

 It works!

So that would maybe fix it. Although I'm not very sure because this
is just a WARNING. And because I think it's not a good idea to
rename current uuids for storage or iso domains (not sure which it's
exactly) in the database just to match the LVM uuids.

Now I'm going to debug the other messages which are ERRORs and not
 warnings.

When oVirt started the vm it mounted the corrupt disk image that seemed fine,

clearly a bug - I suspect its related to commit
bad73b624bf68f7817e9b2ecfcf9ef8489eea8f5 - the domain name is assumed to
be already in the config.

Yair - will you open the bug?
please look at the createConfigurationProvider
String domainName = getConfigValue(engineConfigExecutable,
engineConfigProperties, ConfigValues.DomainName);domain from the
config. in add flow the domain isn't persisted yet

String ldapSecurityAuthentication =
getConfigValue(engineConfigExecutable,
engineConfigProperties,
ConfigValues.LDAPSecurityAuthentication);
ldapDnsResult = validateLdapServers(domainName);

its using the domain name from the config instead of using whatever
passes to the parser object as an argument. this will work for updating
an existing domain but not for new ones.

The theme is based on the Bootstrap framework from Twitter, so we
inherit all of the layout options from there. Garrett Lesage worked hard
to ensure that we also themed the tools sidebar to be unobtrusive when

The theme will be published very soon, it was done in a way which allows
it to be generic, and so useful for other MediaWiki instances also.

Thanks for the praise!

David Wilson:

Hi everyone,

Some feedbackon this error, and a question I hope that someone could
possibly assist with.
I managed to get the guest running again byusing dd and qemu-img to
export the filesystem image and base image, convert to raw format and
run a fsck on the looped partition.
I am happy you make that work. Can you describe more details about how
you dd the guest image? And how did you use qemu-img to export the
filesystem image and base image.

When mounted as a loop filesystem, fsck easily repaired it.

Any ideas why oVirt kept pausing the guest and did not allow fsck to
repair the filesystem?

/Clearing orhpaned inode ./

I've tried booting the guest into rescue mode, run a manual fsck on
the logical volume but each time the guest is automaticall paused due
to the unknown storage error.

We are using a FC SAN for storage, sowhat I've decided to try is
export the disk using dd on the physical node and then try
repairing it by mounting it as a loop filesystem on another physical
server, and then use dd to import it back in again.

Is this the right approach to take to get the system back online?

Don't worry about the failed vgs errors, it is not the problem.
Please attach the full vdsm and engine logs so we can detect why the

  uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

  Volume group 033a2b87-def7-4c27-ab74-9860531f2ed4 not found

If I run the same commands without arguments I found out the
  current
  VGs:

[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
  --separator \| -o
  uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

So I try to run it with the uuid seen:
[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
  --separator \| -o
  uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

it says it cannot find it.

  Now with the name:
[adrian@server ~]$ sudo vgs --noheadings --units b --nosuffix
  --separator \| -o
  uuid,name,attr,size,free,extent_size,extent_count,free_count,tags,vg_mda_size,vg_mda_free

  It works!

So that would maybe fix it. Although I'm not very sure because this
is just a WARNING. And because I think it's not a good idea to
rename current uuids for storage or iso domains (not sure which
  it's
exactly) in the database just to match the LVM uuids.

Now I'm going to debug the other messages which are ERRORs and not
  warnings.

2012-12-03 Thread Einav Cohen
Hi Dennis,

We need some more information that can be useful to us in order to try solving
the problem.
Can you please follow the instructions below for getting more detailed logs and
reply with the results?

1. Set spice-xpi log level to DEBUG (for versions 2.8, modify
logger.ini).

2. Verify which client is running (we should get that from 1), e.g.
by using top, or checking alternatives.

3. Getting version: rpm -q spice-xpi virt-viewer spice-client

4. client/remote-viewer logs:

For spicec, there should be a file ~/.spicec/spicec.log

  For remote-viewer:
In order to also get log messages of remote-viewer, run firefox from shell.
For debug level log messages, the following environment variables should
be set, for example
$ export SPICE_DEBUG=1
$ export G_DEBUG_MESSAGES=all
$ firefox

Thanks,
Einav

This problem is now resolved. ovirt.org/$pagename links should now

This will result in a short (~30s) outage.

To help avoid any loss of work, we will be announcing critical changes

We ended up resolving this without an outage, as the correction needed
to be made where the site did not need to be restarted.

As Dave pointed out, when we have a critical need to restart services
that may affect any of you, we'll try to give an hour notice. Rarely
there won't be time for a notice, for the most part we can give one hour

restarts. The Infra team will work on a policy for this and publish it
for review.

Subject: [Users] OpenLDAP Simple Authentication in Ovirt Engine

Hi,

I am currently testing Ovirt 3.1 standalone on Fedora 17.

Until now, I could only use the default user admin@internal.

Our Directory at the University is OpenLDAP. We use it for
authentication
WITHOUT Kerberos : Simple authentication.

I wonder how to use this backend to authenticate users and manage
groups
in Ovirt.

Has anyone already set this up ?
How to configure Ovirt to use Simple Authentication (No Kerberos).

Cheers,

http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users Hi,

This is a response from an older thread from Yair Zaslavsky:

there is no code allowing to add simple-authentication domains to
Manage-Domains.
In the past we did have the ability to do that, but there are several
problematic issues.

Best regards, Hi,

correct-me if I am wrong but this wiki page (
http://www.ovirt.org/DomainInfrastructure ) states clearly :

 1. Authenticating Active Directory, IPA and RHDS using either
 simple or gssapi authentication
 2. Querying the directory using the LDAP protocol
 3. Auto deducing the LDAP provider type
 4. Easily adding new LDAP provider types
 5. Easily adding new query types

So what ?

We supported simple authentication in the past, but it is no longer supported,
that's why you can't set that using the manage domains utility.
It may work well in some providers (in the past we supported that for active
directory, so I guess it would work there).

I don't think we removed SIMPLE from the engine, we just don't recommend
using it, since it doesn't encrypt user/password on the network (it is
sometime useful for debugging).

We also don't auto deduce the LDAP provider type anymore, as changes in the
providers caused some issues with it.

I'll edit the wiki accordingly (btw, I remember removing it from the wiki... so
it is weird that it is still there...).

Oved

just wondering, i'm sure it is encrypted somehow, do you know which way?
also, when using openldap, which scheme are you using?

I wonder how to use this backend to authenticate users and manage groups
in Ovirt.

Has anyone already set this up ?
How to configure Ovirt to use Simple Authentication (No Kerberos).

2012-12-03 Thread Yair Zaslavsky
Hi,
Several things -
a. I think logging at this point should be improved
b. Since the log is not informative enough, please try the following:
1. Check that your credentials are correct
2. Check you have no clock skew issue (the time difference between the machine
running manage-domains and your ldap server should be less or equal to 5
minutes).
3. Connection refused so there is some connectivity issue -
please query your ldap SRV records for the domain (IMHO dig SRV _ldap._tcp.
viperde.com.br should do the trick)
please try to connect to these ldap servers manually -

For example, if the returned host from the dig SRV query is
aaa.viperde.com.br

perform:
telnet aaa.viperde.com.br 389

Turns out that I did not have telnet installed on my fc17 machine -
I used yum install telnet to install it.

Kind regards,

Yair
