These errors should be addressed, as the inifnspan is configured correctly at
service[1], or so it seems.

Michael, I requested information about these exceptions several times, and yet
got no response from you.

as a last resort, you can run the following sql statements
1) select vm_guid from vm_static where vm_name = '???'
2) delete from snapshots where vm_id = 'vm_guid' -- vm_guid from 1
3) select DeleteVmStatic('vm_guid') -- vm_guid from 1

[root@engine ~]# psql -U engine -c "select vm_guid from
vm_static where vm_name = 'GhostGuest'"
   vm_guid
--
86380302-ce99-4e40-94ca-3f59bb491e5e
(1 row)

[root@engine ~]# psql -U engine -c "delete from snapshots
where vm_id = '86380302-ce99-4e40-94ca-3f59bb491e5e' -- vm_guid from 1"
DELETE 1
[root@engine ~]# psql -U engine -c "select
DeleteVmStatic('86380302-ce99-4e40-94ca-3f59bb491e5e') -- vm_guid from 1"
deletevmstatic

(1 row)

The "ghost" Guest was then exorcised (it immaterialized from web-ui) and I
could also delete a Template that was previously locked due this GhostGuest (it
was made with thin "Template Provisioning"). Super help! Thanks a bunch!

Re: [Users] Unable to add data/NFS domain.

2013-05-16 Thread Sahina Bose

Hi Sharad,

Are you running ovirt-engine in dev enviroment? There are some errors
related to infinispan in engine logs, not sure if this is the cause for
your error though. (refer Michael Kublin's message -
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/engine-devel/2013-April/004344.html for
infinispan related changes)

Also see in vdsm logs - someone else could shed light on this:
File "/usr/share/vdsm/storage/clusterlock.py", line 187, in acquireHostId
raise se.AcquireHostIdFailure(self._sdUUID, e)
AcquireHostIdFailure: Cannot acquire host id:
('47c26e8e-c28f-451d-8a5d-9ae9154b5d08', SanlockException(19, 'Sanlock
lockspace add failure', 'No such device'))

2013-05-16 Thread Karsten 'quaid' Wade
There is about to be an outage of resources.ovirt.org/lists.ovirt.org
for a five minute reboot.

The outage is occurring directly after I send this email (and hopefully
after it's already delivered to you.)

== Details ==

We have older versions of some packages that have security fixes not yet
applied.

I'm updating the kernel and other packages then rebooting to remove the
risk before this announcement gets out.

== Affected services ==

* lists.ovirt.org
* resources.ovirt.org
* ovirtbot

=== Not-affected services ==

* gerrit.ovirt.org
* jenkins.ovirt.org
* www.ovirt.org

== Future plans ==

Get the in...@ovirt.org list or team on an advisory channel so we are
aware of package updates. Then coordinate planned downtime to upgrade.

[Users] On Start of VM: Exit message: internal error ifname "vnet0" not in key map

2013-05-16 Thread Scott Ocken

This is a new setup. oVirt engine 3.2.1. One ovirt-node 2.6.1.
Node network config:
em1 ovirtmgmt untagged
em2 tagged with 2 networks

VM has one nic attached to one of the VLANs on em2.

On start of VM it fails with:
Exit message: internal error ifname "vnet0" not in key map

Looking on the node vnet0 does not exist.
All over network interfaces I would expect are there.
ovirtmgmt, and the 2 VLANs with their em2.x interfaces as well.

Thanks
Scott

as a last resort, you can run the following sql statements
1) select vm_guid from vm_static where vm_name = '???'
2) delete from snapshots where vm_id = 'vm_guid' -- vm_guid from 1
3) select DeleteVmStatic('vm_guid') -- vm_guid from 1

Re: [Users] How to add internal networks

2013-05-16 Thread Lior Vernia
Hello Frank,

I suspect the problem is that VDSM isn't told by default to pass dummy
NICs on to the engine. Have a look at the following file (exact path
might vary):

/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/vdsm/config.py

Search for a variable called "fake_nics", it should exist for 3.2. By
default it is empty, but you may define a pattern for fake NIC names to
be passed to the engine (in your case probably "dummy*"). Restart the
vdsm daemon and everything should be fine. Maybe you'll have to move the
host to maintenance and then reactivate just to refresh the UI.

Please let us know if that works.

Yours, Lior.

Re: [Users] How to add internal networks

2013-05-16 Thread Frank Wall

Hi Asaf,

Am 13.05.2013 15:05, schrieb Assaf Muller:

Without the ability to control the networking devices in your
vicinity and setup VLANs, what you're trying to do isn't supported via
oVirt.

I was already guessing that it is not supported. Thanks for the
"official" confirmation.

* Create two dummy interfaces on the host, and give them static IP
addresses. For example: 192.168.1.254/24, and 192.168.2.254/24.

OK, I've populated the required files...

/etc/modules-load.d/dummy.conf
/etc/modprobe.d/dummy.conf
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-dummy0

...and after a reboot I have a new dummy NIC configured:

dummy0: flags=195 mtu 1500
inet 192.168.0.254 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast
192.168.0.255

ether 5e:61:0f:e7:f9:bc txqueuelen 0 (Ethernet)
RX packets 0 bytes 0 (0.0 B)
RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets 3 bytes 210 (210.0 B)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0

* Create two networks (VM) called One and Two and attach them to
the dummy NICs.

Unfortunately, this does not work as described. I was able to create
the new VM network from the Admin Portal successfully, but I am unable
to attach this network to the dummy NIC.

When I choose the "Setup Host Networks" option from the Admin Portal:
My Datacenter => My Cluster => Hosts => My Host => TAB: Network
Interfaces -> Setup Host Networks
The dummy NIC is NOT listed, but only the physical NIC (with ovirtmgmt
attached to it).

Is this expected? Does oVirt suppress any non-physical NICs?
Is there another way to attach the VM network to my dummy NIC?

Thanks

What is a man without backups?;)

Go to the host and manually remoove the VM:
If vdsClient is installed do "vdsClient 0 list table" and then "vdsClient 0
destroy "
If not the use virsh to list the vms "virsh list" then using the id/name remove
it "virsh destroy "

No sign of that Guest using any of the above commands. I also checked whether
it still had any "ghost" Virtual Disks so I guess SPM managed to clear that.

Then go to Ovirt DB and delete (cascade) the VM from vm_static

That´s where I could use the most guideance really. How exactly do I do that?

But remember that as always touching the inner working directly might be risky
and prone to errors (no way to recover if you deleted the wrong VM)
So use with caution.

I hope this helps,

Hi,

yesterday I issued a remove of a Guest and then immediately afterwards engine
started complaining about sync errors between database and storage metadata. To
my surprise, both of my two data stores were marked as master in their storage
metadata files. I had to change "MASTER_VERSION" and "ROLE", then tail the vdsm
log on a Host and watch it complain that the checksum is wrong and how it is
${X} but should be ${Y} according to it´s logic, and copy/paste tbe correct
checksum into storage metadata file as well. This had to be done for both data
domains, and when done, I have one "Master"- and one "Regular" domain that
works and equals what´s in the database.

The problem is that engine now apparently has forgotten about my Guest that it
was supposed to remove before all of this... The operation is still listed in
"Tasks", so it´s not quite finished yet. Since it´s changed state to
"hourglass" and status "Image locked", I can´t click for removal again either...

Is there any way to "remind" engine of a job not done?

Hi Lior,

Thank you very much for your help. I'm sure things are improving and
fast thanks to the great job of the ovirt team. Right now I think that
using VLans is going to be the safest choice to me. I plan to move the
plataform into production before end of month so I'll stick to stable stuff.
I'll take a look into quantum as I don't know anything about it and may

As far as I understood, the upcoming 3.2.2 should have the problem
directly fixed in it without need of recompiling, also for EL6 repo.
I think that you could enable updates-testing repo for your ovirt and
then your update would access the packages here:

http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/updates-testing/rpm/EL/6/noarch/
such as
ovirt-engine-3.2.2-1.1.el6.noarch.rpm

or you can wait for the final push in stable repo

Re: [Users] clone vm from snapshot problem in 3.2

2013-05-16 Thread Alexandru Vladulescu

Hi all,

I am facing the same problem regarding the VM clone & viewing the
details from snapshot as Gianluca has described in this current thread.

The single problem I am facing now, is that your thread is from 3 months
old, I am using el6 stable repository on a CentOS 6.3 installation and
my rpm list below looks like:

ovirt-engine-sdk-3.2.0.10-1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-setup-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-userportal-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-dbscripts-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-cli-3.2.0.11-1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-tools-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-genericapi-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-backend-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch
ovirt-engine-restapi-3.2.1-1.beta1.el6.noarch

As I can see, there were some revision set updates on the ovirt engine
core rpms, that I suppose, it should include this as well:
http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/11254/

Can someone provide me some piece of advice on how to fix things ?

Thanks you.

Hello,

I built as in this thread:

directly on engine server and with engine stopped:

sudo rpm -Uvh --force $(ls -1|grep -v all)

ovirt-engine-userportal-3.2.0-4.fc18.noarch.rpm
ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-3.2.0-4.fc18.noarch.rpm

Results:

OK, for the snapshot details pane. It seem the patch fixes this too.
Until now I was never able to see snapshot details,
Instead now I can see disk and nic details. See:

OK, if I clone a VM from a snapshot of a running VM (CentOS 5.6)
I start the clone and no problem at all.

well done!

Corner cases and problems

1)
OK, if I clone a powered on VM from a snapshot with two disks and here
you can find clone in action with webadmin gui and iotop on node that
shows they are cloning in parallel.. well!
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvZ3lzY0l1MDc5OVE/edit?usp=sharing

The VM is a slackware 14 32bit with virtio disk that I obtained from a
virt-v2v from CentOS 6.3+Qemu/KVM
The problem is that the cloned VM recognizes the disks in reversed order

See these images where sl1432 is master slcone is the clone

disk layout in details pane seems equal with boot disk the one that
appears as the second, but the master boots ok, the slave no.
Disks are swapped

Master VM disk details:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvSWNVNFI4bHg4Umc/edit?usp=sharing

Clone VM disks details:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvM1N0bVcyNlFPS1U/edit?usp=sharing

Page with the two consoles where you can see that vda of master
becomes vdb of clone and vice-versa:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mveFpESEs5V1dUTFE/edit?usp=sharing

Can I swap again in some way? In VMware for example you can see and
edit SCSI IDs of disks...

2)
KO, if I clone a windows 7 VM from a snapshot (time 17:09) I get this on gui
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvaW9OVW84WVI1dkU/edit?usp=sharing

You can find the engine.log from server restart (at 17:06) here:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvTDQzRTFfbFgxX0E/edit?usp=sharing

Are there any restrictions?
The VM was powered off when taking the snapshot and making the clone.

Thanks for reporting. We have already a BZ for this and it should be now
already resolved on the master branch. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/962667

Sorry for the inconvenience, I have unfortunately not tested the patch
set as service and only from the command line. I learn from that that I
always should test it as service.

Re: [Users] Vlan interface on top of bonding

2013-05-16 Thread Lior Vernia
Hello again Juan Pablo,

We're aware that the networking (among other things) in oVirt isn't
perfect, we're working on it :) As I had mentioned, the 3.2 release did
improve the network functionality, as well as make it much
user-friendlier, so an upgrade is recommended if possible. Also, in the
up-and-coming 3.3 there's an OpenStack Quantum integration feature that
should enable oVirt users to take advantage of the rich network
topologies offered by Quantum.

As for your current situation, by far your safest choice would be to
configure the VLANs in your switches. However, depending on your VDSM
version, you might be able to enable non-VM networks in your cluster
simply by changing a configuration value in your engine database
(although this would be an unsupported hack and I can't guarantee that
it won't mess anything up).

If interested, I can give you more details on what to change exactly,
but I'm not sure that it will actually solve your problem - you still
won't be able to have two non-VLAN networks on the same NIC, at most
you'll be able to have one non-VM, non-VLAN network residing with VLAN
networks. And I'm not sure even that will work in 3.1.

Yours, Lior.
