2013-11-14 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
ovirt-engine 3.3.1-2 has been published in beta repository and is ready for
testing.

Bugs fixed in this version:
{{BZ|1023739}} - Cannot create same Local SD path on different Hosts
{{BZ|1009391}} - Change multi-monitor setting in VM Console option dialog for
3.2 compatible cluster
{{BZ|1025313}} - support relative answer file name
{{BZ|1028748}} - answer files are world-readable and contain passwords

Other fixes:
Fixed a bug which caused failure to run VM with VNC console

The all-in-one is optional in the sense that you need to run
sudo yum install -y ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-allinone
only if you want an all-in-one setup (aka one engine that is also the
hypervisor)

Normally when you deploy a host there is the reboot of the host itself
at the end of the stage

actually, in 3.3 there is no longer a reboot at host install.
still, the AIO automatically defines the DC as local-host type, auto
configures the host and a data storage domain, etc.

In case of all-in-one this would be a problem.of course
So the engine-setup after you install all-in-one plugin would take
care itself to make as normally the engine configuration and setup,
but also the deploy part of itself as a host, without reboot (there
was a bug in the past hitting me on this... ;-)

This latest was on XenServer, so I don't think kvm can run nested on

There are numerous references to qemu/qemu-kvm supporting other scsi
adapters as well as AHCI SATA. I installed the Centos 6.4 based node,
so perhaps the Fedora 19 based node has a newer qemu that supports more
of these features? I might see if I can do an install of the Fedora 19
based node tomorrow.

Ayal mentioned using 'hooks' to interface with qemu to possibly create a
VM outside of the definitions that Ovirt allows. If I am understanding
this correctly - how do I do this? Am I to expect some interface
inconsistencies in the ovirt portal I I view a 'custom' VM like this?

hooks are compatible with the ui. you'd define a custom property with
scsi=xxx or something like that.

see for more detials:
http://www.ovirt.org/VDSM-Hooks

So, in short - is there the potential for me to create a VM in ovirt
that has a SCSI/SAS/SATA HBA and attach disk(s) to it (other than the
virtio-scsi HBA which is not supported under EL5)?

The only supported emulated SCSI HBA device is virtio-scsi. It was Tech

Re: [Users] Failed to start JBoss AS

2013-11-14 Thread Bob Doolittle

Hi,

Thanks, but I couldn't wait and didn't anticipate that there would be
anything I could do to repair the database manually. I have nuked my old
engine configuration and created a new one.

It would be great if we could update the bug report with an actual
diagnosis and description of what operations can lead to corruption of
the engine database. I mistakenly assumed (from the synopsis
ImportVmTemplateParameters fails") that it only stemmed from Template
imports, but it seems to affect VM imports as well (I discovered after
corrupting two subsequent engine databases).

Is there going to be a backport of this bug to ovirt-stable, or will we
need to wait for 3.1.1? What is the timeframe for 3.1.1 final release?

Thanks,
Bob

That bug has not been updated in almost 3 months, however. The last
note says "Working on CI". Does that mean Code Integration? It looks
like maybe it was fixed in version "is10", whatever that is, and is
currently Verified by QA. Is that right?

Unfortunately that bug report has no description whatsoever of what
the underlying problem was. I would like to know:

1. Is there any workaround?
2. Can I start again by re-installing Engine and importing, or is the
issue with the exported VMs and/or template so I'd just hit the
problem again?

It sort of looks like the problem was with a template
(org.ovirt.engine.core.common.action.ImportVmTemplateParameters). If
so, can I import the VMs and avoid the Templates? Or am I perhaps
misinterpreting that message?

Shouldn't bug reports always contain some sort of diagnostic
information about the underlying cause and/or workarounds?

Thanks,
Bob

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on how to recover?

How I got here:

I had a working Engine (mach1 F19) and Host (mach2 F19), but needed
to play some musical chairs with my hardware to utilize a 3rd
machine (mach3 RH6). My goal is to have mach2 become Engine, and
mach3 Host.

I did the following:
1. Created an NFS share on mach3, and used it as NFS Export Storage
from mach2.

2. Exported my VMs and templates to the Export storage.
3. Removed mach2 from my Datacenter
4. Shut down mach1
5. Installed fresh F19 on mach2 (my old host), and installed Engine
3.3.0 on it

6. Added mach3 as Host
7. Imported my VMs and Templates from the Export Storage

At this point all looked well. I rebooted mach2, but it won't come
back up.

I'd appreciate any insight.

Hi Bob and thanks for the feedback

indeed there is no diagnose in the bug and that will be fixed.

Now let see if we can get this working - in the async task table
there is a JSON structure with an attribute describing disks - diskMap

problem is that its missing a concrete java type java.util.HashMap

please paste the output of:
 psql ovirt postgres -x -c 'select task_parameters from async_tasks;'
| grep -i diskmap

Roy

its missing a we can try to modify it

The Vdsm rebase during ovirt-3.3.1 caused an unintended change in
how gluster storage domains are implemented: Instead of using glusterfs,
it is using gluster-fuse.

This change has a positive side effect: Bug 1017289 "Snapshots on
GlusterFS w/ libgfapi enableda" makes it impossible to use gluster VMs
with snapshots on ovirt-3.3.0; that should be possible now.

[Users] 32bit CentOS 6.4 on VirtualBox to oVirt on Fedora 19 64bit via virt-v2v

2013-11-14 Thread Owen Williams
Hello,
I've trying to move a 32bit CentOS 6.4 on VirtualBox to oVirt on
Fedora 19 64bit via virt-v2v. The command I'm currently using is:

virt-v2v -i libvirtxml -of qcow2 -oa sparse -o rhev -osd
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/usr/local/ovirt/exports --network
ovirtmgmt
/usr1/home/williams/Downloads/OpenAthens/VMs/OpenAthensLARuntime2.2.xml

The exciting bit of the XML is:

/usr/bin/qemu-kvm

The image is a RAW (taken from the working VirtualBox install) but I
have tried the original image with the same result:

virtio configured, but no virtio kernel found
at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Sys/VirtConvert/Converter/RedHat.pm

I have looked at the code:

/usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Sys/VirtConvert/Converter/RedHat.pm:~490

creating this and dumped the contents of the grub look up:

Sys::VirtConvert::GuestfsHandle=HASH(0x433da98)< >/dev/VolGroup/lv_root<
$VAR1 = bless( {
 'onclose' => [
sub { "DUMMY" }
  ],
 'g' => bless( {
 '_g' => 70645888,
 '_flags' => 0
   }, 'Sys::Guestfs' )
   }, 'Sys::VirtConvert::GuestfsHandle' );

If I tell the code to skip this section the result becomes:

virt-v2v: Failed to find a kernel_pkg.i686 package to install

Any ideas on how to solve this or what the solution might, please?

Best regards,

Owen.

We have seen a similar issue with OpenLDAP that required to set the
minimum security strength factor (SSF) to 1 instead of the default 0.
This default triggers a bug in the Java virtual machine Kerberos support.

IPA uses the 389 directory server, and it also has the possibility to
configure this, as described here:

http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Minimum_SSF_Setting

To check that you can run a query like this in your IPA installation:

# kinit admin
# ldapsearch \
-H ldap://your_ipa_server \
-Y GSSAPI \
-LLL \
-b 'cn=config' \
-s base \
nsslapd-minssf

The output will probably be like this:

dn: cn=config
nssla

don't try to create a new export domain, rather import an existing one

sure. you can back it up, then restore in another engine.
you can also do this piecemeal at vm level.

one note - if you back it up while its attached to an engine, you will
need to edit its meta data file to remove the association to allow the
other engine to connect it to the new pool for restore.

Re: [Users] Custom settings for Kernel Same-page Merging (KSM)?

2013-11-14 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi Sven,

the reason is that the rule is a bit more complex now. KSM is started when free
memory drops below 20% or if the ksm_shareable value gets above 80% of
available memory.

the relevant rule in the policy is:

(defvar ksm_pressure_threshold (* Host.mem_available ksm_free_percent))
(defvar ksm_committed Host.ksm_shareable)

(if (and (> (+ ksm_pressure_threshold ksm_committed) Host.mem_available)
 (< (Host.StatAvg "mem_free") ksm_pressure_threshold))

Regards

yes, but that's a trivial plugin.
since the installer creates the default nfs iso domain on the engine, it

(or does it create a link so rpm updates of the iso/vfd will be always
visible there - sandro?)

for other iso domains, currently admin needs to push via iso uploader.

Re: [Users] Default route on hosts

2013-11-14 Thread Itamar Heim

On Nov 12, 2013, at 7:58 AM, Assaf Muller wrote:

Can users outside of the hosts' networks reach the VMs in the hosts?

I have not tested this yet. I have been focused on the host's
networking behavior outside of the ovirt/vdsm bits.
(Mainly, it checking in on other things.) I realize this presents a
flaw in my thinking that the host was not behaving
properly. I will adjust my thinking on this item, and then test with a
valid set of criteria.

If you use netstat -rn it is expected that the gateway will be
0.0.0.0, as ifcfg-ovirtmgmt has DEFROUTE=yes and ifcfg-public has
DEFROUTE=no, then ovirtmgmt's
'gateway' (0.0.0.0) will be determined as the host's default gateway.
However with the new multiple gateways feature we configure source
routing to make
sure that traffic that comes (from the outside) in the public
network's device will return the way it came in.

That makes a lot of sense to me now. And, actually, I believe is the
way it is working, the more I think about the behavior I'm seeing.

You can use 'ip rule' to see the rules VDSM configures. It creates two
rules and a routing table per device. You can use 'ip route show table
%s' on each
table, where the IDs can be obtained by 'ip rule'.

This is super helpful. Thank you.

A large part of this is likely me needing to adjust my thinking. As
long as my VM's are behaving as expected, do I actually need the host
to, by default, send traffic out the 'public' interface? If I do, what
traffic is that? Can I change that traffic? The likely hood is that
there are
only a small amount of data, mostly centering around metrics, and some
config management, that would be host sourced data that currently
isn't destined for my management network. Maybe those data *should* run
over the management network, if my desire for an extra layer
of protection of those data is a valid desire.

Of course, that's not the way I have things arranged right now, but,
maybe I can fix that.

Thank you very much for your help, I have enough information to get back
on the problem now.

please note you can set which logical network is the 'disaply'
(console/spice/vnc) network, which is what the users use to connect
spice/vnc console to the VM with. default is ovirtmgmt, but you probably
want to change it in your case.

Re: [Users] Trusted Pools and CentOS 6 packages

2013-11-14 Thread Nicolae Paladi
Hi,

As far as I see, port 8443 is not occupied and tomcat6 is running:

root@host /usr/share/oat-client/script # netstat -anp | grep 8443
root@host /usr/share/oat-client/script # service tomcat6 status
tomcat6 (pid 30950) is running... [ OK ]

Also, just in case, I've checked if disabling iptables helps, and it
doesn't;

In the error trace, there is a line:
*java.io.FileNotFoundException: /usr/share/oat-client/aik.cer (No such file
or directory)*

and indeed, there is not file aik.cer at /usr/share/oat-client/aik.cer;
when is it supposed to
be generated?

cheers,
/Nicolae

Both online and offline snapshot deletion leads to an error and the
snapshot state is changed to "BROKEN".

When I apply the patch at http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/19983/ from
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1015071 snapshot deletion
works again.

Can/will this patch be backported to ovirt-stable?

yaniv - can you (or someone else maintaing stable 3.3) update 3.3.1
release notes with the vdsm bugs fixed in it (not sure if the one above
is or isn't)

sure. you can back it up, then restore in another engine.
you can also do this piecemeal at vm level.

one note - if you back it up while its attached to an engine, you will
need to edit its meta data file to remove the association to allow the
other engine to connect it to the new pool for restore.

After some reassessment, this patch isn't s bad, and was backported to
3.3.1.
Keep your eyes open for the upcoming release :-)

Thanks,
Bob

Hi,

I had a working engine, using 3.3.0 on Fedora 19. I rebooted my
engine, and JBoss AS won't come back up. I get the attached errors
from server.log.

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on how to recover?

How I got here:

I had a working Engine (mach1 F19) and Host (mach2 F19), but needed
to play some musical chairs with my hardware to utilize a 3rd machine
(mach3 RH6). My goal is to have mach2 become Engine, and mach3 Host.

I did the following:
1. Created an NFS share on mach3, and used it as NFS Export Storage
from mach2.

2. Exported my VMs and templates to the Export storage.
3. Removed mach2 from my Datacenter
4. Shut down mach1
5. Installed fresh F19 on mach2 (my old host), and installed Engine
3.3.0 on it

6. Added mach3 as Host
7. Imported my VMs and Templates from the Export Storage

At this point all looked well. I rebooted mach2, but it won't come
back up.

I'd appreciate any insight.

Thanks,
   Bob

Hi Bob and thanks for the feedback

indeed there is no diagnose in the bug and that will be fixed.

Now let see if we can get this working - in the async task table there
is a JSON structure with an attribute describing disks - diskMap

problem is that its missing a concrete java type java.util.HashMap

please paste the output of:
 psql ovirt postgres -x -c 'select task_parameters from async_tasks;'
| grep -i diskmap

Roy

its missing a we can try to modify it
