Re: [Users] online storage domain resize

2014-01-21 Thread Jiří Sléžka

Hi

If you want to enlarge an existing storage domain the easiest way is
to extend the storage domain. You can edit the domain and add another
LUN to be a part of that domain and oVirt will take care of extending
the domain - the only thing you need is another LUN to use.

wow, it it looks so simple that I didn't even realize that it could work
:-) You are right, I can select another non used LUN to expand storage
domain.

I'll try it tomorrow

Thanks

Jiri

Hello,

I'm just curious and I didn't try it already. I'm using FC storage
(Dell MD3620f) with some logical disks on it. I should be able online
increase virtual disk capacity using storage management (I have some
free capacity on disk group).

Is there any way to on-line extend volume group used for vm's images
storage and don't break anything?

I just found this hint by Eduardo from list

1. Shutdown all VMs 2. Manually connect iscsi on the SPM host 3. Run
pvresize on the LUN 4. Put the domain in maintenance 5. Activate the
domains

Is it possible to do this on-line without shutting down all vms? If
not, it could be really nice feature for oncoming releases.

Thanks in advance

Jiri

Re: [Users] Vm's being paused

2014-01-21 Thread Neil
Hi Dan,

Sorry for only coming back to you now.
The VM's are thin provisioned. The Server 2003 VM hasn't run out of
disk space there is about 20Gigs free, and the usage barely grows as
the VM only shares printers. The other VM that paused is also on thin
provisioned disks and also has plenty space, this guest is running
Centos 6.3 64bit and only runs basic reporting.

After the 2003 guest was rebooted, the network card showed up as
unplugged in ovirt, and we had to remove it, and re-add it again in
order to correct the issue. The Centos VM did not have the same issue.

I'm concerned that this might happen to a VM that's quite critical,
any thoughts or ideas?

The only recent changes have been updating from Dreyou 3.2 to the
official Centos repo and updating to 3.3.1-2. Prior to updating I
haven't had this issue.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards.

Neil Wilson.

Pausing happens when the VM has an IO error or runs out of space on the
storage domain, and it is done intentionally, so that the VM will not
experience a disk corruption. If you have thin provisioned disks, and the VM
writes to it's disks faster than the disks can grow, this is exactly what
 you will see

Re: [Users] Vm's being paused

2014-01-21 Thread Neil
Hi Dan,

Sorry, attached is engine.log I've taken out the two sections where
each of the VM's were paused.

Does the error VM babbage has paused due to no Storage space error
mean the main storage domain has run out of storage, or that the VM
has run out?

Both VM's appear to have been running on node01 when they were paused.
My vdsm versions are all...

vdsm-cli-4.13.0-11.el6.noarch
vdsm-python-cpopen-4.13.0-11.el6.x86_64
vdsm-xmlrpc-4.13.0-11.el6.noarch
vdsm-4.13.0-11.el6.x86_64
vdsm-python-4.13.0-11.el6.x86_64

I currently have a 61% over allocation ratio on my primary storage
domain, with 1948GB available.

Thank you.

Regards.

Now I want the bootloader and the node installation both to go on HDD

press Enter (have also tried pressing space or just use tab and
continue while it's selected). Then I get to the screen asking where
to install the node. I select HDD B and unselect HDD A. I keep the
partitioning setup as default ( have also tried manual and kept 5GB
unused on HDD A). When I get to install part. It installs the node
fine on HDD B as expected but it always gets the boot-loader on HDD A.
This issue has wasted many of my days on different machines and I

Hey Numas,

that sounds definetly like a bug. Thanks for the detailed description.

If you want to be on the safe side please open a bug to track it.
Otherwise I try to remeber to look into this :)

[Users] novnc console button/ticket via REST-API?

2014-01-21 Thread Sven Kieske
Hi,

we are quite impressed of the novnc console
option to get access to the vms.

however, we want to implement our own
userportal. So is it possible
to create the novnc ticket / open a vnc
session with the vm event via REST-API?

If yes how?

If not, how could this be achieved?

To get the ticket for the VNC display you need to do the following:

curl \
-k \
-X POST \
-H Accept: application/xml \
-H Content-Type: application/xml \
-d
action/
 \
-u admin@internal:** \
https://whatever/api/vms/your_vm_id/ticket

That will return something like this:

  action
ticket
  valueIKWW7PpFZhjP/value
  expiry7200/expiry
/ticket
vm href=... id=...
   ...
/vm
status
  statecomplete/state
/status
  /action

The ticket.value is the password for the VNC display. To connect to the
display you will need also to get the host and port number from the VM
details:

curl \
-k \
-H Accept: application/xml \
-u admin@internal:** \
https://whatever/api/vms/your_vm_id

This will return the following:

  vm href=... id=...
...
display
  typevnc/type
  address192.168.122.20/address
  port5900/port
  ...
/display
...
  /vm

The the ticket.value, vm.display.address and vm.display.port you can
complete the VNC connection.

[Users] Change bootdisk from IDE to virtio

2014-01-21 Thread Markus Stockhausen
Hello,

i have a SLES 11 VM that was migrated into ovirt. I successfully
changed all except the boot/root disk to virtio. Nevertheless I'm
unable to do the same for the boot disk itself

What I've done so far:

- replace all /dev/sdx entries in fstab to /disk/by-uuid
- replace all /dev/sdx entries in grub/menu.list to /disk/by-uuid
- reboot the VM with these settings and IDE boot still active

After switching the disk over to virtio the boot process hangs at

SeaBIOS...
Machine UUID ...
iPXE ...
Booting from Hard Disk ...

Any ideas?

Markus

I think the problem is that your LDAP server is configured with a
minimum security strength factor that triggers a bug in the Kerberos
support in the Java virtual machine. This is a know issue. See here for
details:

Thanks. Does this affect openIPA as well?

Subject: [Users] Problem adding an IPA server to oVirt

Hi,

I am trying to set up an oVirt environment with an IPA provider and
am hitting a GeneralException that I am unsure how to debug. I have
configured freeIPA in a Fedora VM using the supplied configuration
script and I can 'kinit admin' from the ovirt-engine machine. When I
run the manage-domains command I get the following exception:

I didn't realize it, but I had to add _kerberos srv records to my
dnsmasq.conf in order for the script to even find my KDC.

./engine-manage-domains -action=add -provider=IPA -domain=alitke.net
-user=admin -interactive -ldapServers=directory.alitke.net

Re: [Users] [SOLVED] Re: Networking questions (LONG)

2014-01-21 Thread Lior Vernia
Hi Alan,

May I just inquire about the two alternative solutions that had been
proposed here, and why you opted against? As a reminder, I'm referring to:
1. Using a firewall VM with one vNIC per VLAN network.
2. Using VDMS hooks to simulate TRUNK.

Both of these should allow migration, etc. without any additional
procurement, and require only the one firewall VM. Are the Lanner and
dual-firewall solutions simpler?

Yours, Lior.

On 21/01/14 05:07, Alan Murrell wrote:
I just thought I would reply back to my own thread with what my team and
I have come up with. While I have marked this as Solved, don't get
too excited; it is not exactly the resolution we were looking for, but
 is acceptable nonetheless.

After some further digging around, we found that it is possible to pass
hardware (including a NIC) through to a guest. Unfortunately, this
renders the guest unable to be migrated to another host automatically.

In a single-server setup (which many of our clients' setups are via
VMware, currently0, this would not make a difference, since there is no
other host to migrate to anyway. Son in those cases, not much changes.

For multi-server setups, we have two choices:

1.) Forgo the virtual firewall and purchase a Lanner or similar
hardware to install the firewall onto. Since a multi-server setup (at
least two server + SAN) typically runs a minimum of $10K-$15K in
hardware alone, an addition $300 or so for the Lanner (or similar
hardware) would not increase the overall cost of the project in a
significant way. (This option could of course be used in a
single-server setup as well, but hardware cost is usually more of a
factor with these setups for our clients)

2.) Setup a firewall guest on two of the hosts, and configure them in
an active-passive fashion. As long as both of the hosts with the
firewall VMs do not go down at the same time, then there should not be
an issue. If a host with a firewall VM goes down, the other firewall VM
 will take over.

So, those are the work-arounds that we have come up with (nothing new
to anyone here, I am sure) until such time as OpenVSwitch gets adopted
into oVirt/RHEV as either an easy-to-enable option, or as the
 standard/default switch.

Anyway, this post was really more of a closure post so anyone coming
across this thread in the future does not wonder what the ultimate
 outcome was. :-)

well it's cool I can set the ticket, but the client would be novnc in

 there are two steps
you get the password via ticket action (which enables/opens the connection

you get the display details from VM's properties (host, port)
 and then you can connect.

for novnc you'd need to use websocket proxy in addition so you need to get

Re: [Users] Error when trying to create a new ISO storage domain

2014-01-21 Thread Willard Dennis
I am still trying to resolve this issue. I found the Troubleshooting NFS
Storage Issues page, and have a few questions regarding the troubleshooting
steps contained therein...
1) In the Permissions section, there's a suggestion under the SELinux
subsection to su - vdsm -s /bin/bash and then try to mount the target NFS
share under a temp mountpoint. However, the mount command is only usable as
'root', right? If this can indeed be done, please let me know how (and I will
update the wiki page...)
2) In the nfs-check program section, it says to run the Python script passing
the the target NFS share path as a parameter. However, it does not indicate
where to run the script -- on the engine, or on a node? (When I ran it on a
node, it gives the output: return = 32 error mount.nfs: access denied by server
while mounting stordevfs.nec-labs.com:/volumes/storage/ovirt-isos)

Thanks!Will

Subject: Re: [Users] Error when trying to create a new ISO storage domain

Thanks for the reply, Markus.

Did you follow the NFS export guidelines and userid 36? Here the
export data from our ISO NFS server path

 # ls -ald /var/nas3/OVirtISO
 drwxrwxr-x 3 36 36 74 Dez 10 12:53 /var/nas3/OVirtISO
 # cat /etc/exports
 /var/nas3/OVirtEXP
 10.0.0.0/12(rw,async,no_subtree_check,anonuid=36,anongid=36,all_squash)
 ...

 Markus

The share is on a Illumos (nee OpenSolaris) box, and uses ZFS's NFS
implementation. Here is the output of the share command (i.e. exportfs) for
this share:
-@storage/ovir /volumes/storage/ovirt-isos anon=36,sec=none,rw
I did change the NFS mount options (added the anon=36, and changed the sec=
option from sys to none), and now I'm getting a slightly different error:
-Error while executing action Add Storage Connection: Problem while trying
to mount target-
Any way to get more info on what exactly the propblem is??

Re: [Users] novnc console button/ticket via REST-API?

2014-01-21 Thread Sven Kieske
No, I think I didn't explain it good enough.

the link in webadmin is created via the novnc program, right?
(basically just html+js)
currently it resides directly on the host where ovirt-engine
is installed.

we want to move this to a different host, but how?

I mean, I got the ticket, I got the websocket proxy, I got
the host we need to connect to and ports and all, but how to

how can we construct this link for host c?

well it's cool I can set the ticket, but the client would be novnc in
our case, so there is no way to get the actual url for this ticket for
 novnc with REST?

 there are two steps
you get the password via ticket action (which enables/opens the connection
 for those 120s window)
you get the display details from VM's properties (host, port)
 and then you can connect.

for novnc you'd need to use websocket proxy in addition so you need to get
 the proxy address from engine-config

(Below is based on rhel6 experience, please translate to Suse)

May be a grub issue, look at /boot/grub/device.map and /boot/grub/grub.conf

Maybe I should explain the idea behind it in more detail. I want to
configure a VM in a way that I can boot it from a disk that may be
a Virtio or an IDE device.

So: make everything ready in the IDE world, and restart the machine
in the Virtio world. No CD, no interest in further configuration. The
only place wihtout an UUID is the file /boot/grub/device.map that reads

(hd0) /dev/sda

But I cannot change it as only partitions have an UUID and grub does
not see a /dev/vda yet. Am I going totally wrong with my idea?

I found the BZ and backported the patches to v1.0.5-maint:

I will do v1.1.3-maint as well.

As it was released to updates-testing, I tested and gave positive
feedback for your backport to v1.0.5-maint
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1018530

Successfully tested also the capability to automatically change tcp
port if busy without giving error messages in webadmin gui
Thanks!

BTW with gluster 3.4.2-1, already pushed in f19 stable we have now
also there the possibility to put port range (skip if busy capability
was already there before), putting for example inside

[Users] no new mom for ovirt?

2014-01-21 Thread Sven Kieske
Hi,

I just checked this BZ:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1025845

This is closed for RedHat but afaik not for upstream.

It mentions the fixed mom version:
mom-0.3.2-8.el6ev

but on resources.ovirt.org I find just older versions
like
http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/3.4.0-alpha/rpm/EL/6/noarch/mom-0.3.2-3.16.git97e1741.el6.noarch.rpm

so downstream (payed) red hat has newer versions than upstream

how can that be? Or am I looking in the wrong repo?
Should this not be hosted on ovirt.org repo?

Re: [Users] Vm's being paused

2014-01-21 Thread Dafna Ron

the storage space is configured in percentages and not physical size.
so if 20G is less than 10% (default config) of your storage it will
pause the vms regardless of how much GB you still have.
this is configurable though so you can change it to less than 10% if you
like.

to answer the second question, vm's will not pause on ENOSpace error if
they run out of space internally but only if the external storage cannot
be consumed. so only if you run out of space in the storage and and not
if vm runs out of space in its on fs.

has run out?

Both VM's appear to have been running on node01 when they were paused.
My vdsm versions are all...

vdsm-cli-4.13.0-11.el6.noarch
vdsm-python-cpopen-4.13.0-11.el6.x86_64

Thank you.

Do you have the VMs on thin provisioned storage or sparse disks?

Pausing happens when the VM has an IO error or runs out of space on the
storage domain, and it is done intentionally, so that the VM will not
experience a disk corruption. If you have thin provisioned disks, and the VM
writes to it's disks faster than the disks can grow, this is exactly what
you will see

Re: [Users] Error when trying to create a new ISO storage domain

2014-01-21 Thread Willard Dennis

Thanks for the response, Dafna...

 vdsm is using mount command.
please look at vdsm log and find the mount command that is failing and
run it manually to see the mount trace.

you can also attach the vdsm log here and we can try to find it :)

 Dafna

Just needed a clue where to look, thanks :)
I see that the mount cmd is being invoked with sudo, and that's how it works
for the user vdsm --/usr/bin/sudo -n /bin/mount -t nfs -o
soft,nosharecache,timeo=600,retrans=6,nfsvers=3
stordevfs.nec-labs.com:/volumes/storage/ovirt-isos
/rhev/data-center/mnt/stordevfs.nec-labs.com:_volumes_storage_ovirt-isos
And then the resulting error I'm getting:MountError: (32, ';mount.nfs: access
denied by server while mounting
stordevfs.nec-labs.com:/volumes/storage/ovirt-isos\n')
...which correlates with the output of the nfs-check.py script.
So, I will have to debug on the Illumos side as to why I don't seem to have the
needed perm's; but, in the meantime, I did set up a NFS share on a CentOS 6.4
box I have available, following directions on
http://www.ovirt.org/Troubleshooting_NFS_Storage_Issues , and it does work fine
from there.
Thanks for your assistance!

[Users] Gluster volume snapshots feature UX feedback

2014-01-21 Thread Malini Rao
Hi Shubendu,

I saw your invite for your walkthrough on the feature - Gluster volume
snapshots and also followed the feature link on the wiki and reviewed it. From
the UX/ UI perspective, it looks good and I had only a couple of comments.

The remove snapshot section seems to indicate an ability to delete multiple
snapshots at once and I am not sure we support any batch actions as of now
elsewhere in the tool. Ctrl+click is not supported on lists today I think. So,
I wanted to find out if you were going to introduce this for your feature. If
yes, then we should ensure all other grids are enabled with this multi-select
capability. If not, we should refrain from introducing something just for this
feature for the sake of consistency and across feature product cohesiveness.

The other feedback I have is on the snapshot configuration dialog. It will be
great if any units can be added to the right of the field because one is a
number and the other is a percentage but the field labels are so similar
sounding. The field labels with the dashes in between the words also make it
look very homegrown and seems like we are exposing some internal labels to our
users.

Last but not least, since the terminology of 'snapshots' overlaps with VM
snapshots, we should just ensure that no similar action does wildly different
things although it seems like snapshotting here is much more simple.

Hope this is helpful,

Thanks
Malini

I guess you mean FreeIPA.

Yes, it affects any LDAP server that sets missf to 0 by default,

Following Itamar's suggestion this time, I chose VNC as console option.
How can I use vnc viewer to attach to the VM?

I don't remember if virt-viewer detects the vnc in the .vv file.
but you should have the vnc password and connection details in the vv
file to manually connect for sake of testing.

you should also be able to use ovirt cli utility to connect to a vm
which will launch vnc as well (iirc, via virt-viewer, not vnc viewer)

Should I use SPICE as console protocol in order to use web proxy?

On my engine, I have:

WebSocketProxy: Engine:6100 version: general
WebSocketProxyTicketValiditySeconds: 120 version: general

So is Webproxy using port 6100?

It's for both noVNC and SPICE-HTML5 client
Not for virt-viewer or custom native vnc clients
Spice proxy would be for similar network layout but native spice
 client (remote-viewer or firefox/IE plugin)
I may have missed that info earlier, are you trying to use browser clients?
Those need the websocket translation. Or regular/stable way via standalone
 client(that's still the predefined default)

I don't really mind as long as the solution is feasible in the case where the
browser doesn't have direct connection to the host (cpu) machine.

2014-01-21 Thread Shubhendu Tripathi

Thanks Malini for the comments.
We will re-visit the points mentioned below and update you on the same.

Thanks and Regards,
Shubhendu Tripathi

On 01/22/2014 01:07 AM, Malini Rao wrote:

Thanks
Malini
