Re: [Users] Unable to Remove Template, if VM exists.
As long as the vm is linked to the template (which means you created the vm as a thin provision copy) you cannot delete the template. what you can do to work around this is: 1. export the vm and template to an export domain 2. delete the vm and template from the source setup only 3. try to import the vm as clone other way is: 1. create a template from the vm 2. create a new vm from the template (make sure to create a clone and not a thin copy this time :)) Dafna On 02/19/2014 06:22 AM, Tejesh M wrote: Hi All, I'm not able to Delete Template, if the VM is exists which is deployed from that Template. This looks like glusterfs issue, and should be handled by glusterfs folks. You probably should configure sanlock log level back to the default by commenting out the configuration I suggested in the previous mail. According to gluster configuration in this log, this looks like 2 replicas with auto quorum. This setup is not recommended because both machines must be up all the time. The other nodes usually don't lose their storage at that moment. Just one, or two at a time. We've setup extra tooling to verify the storage performance at those moments and the availability for other systems. It's always online, just the nodes don't think so. Just as a quick shot: You really may want to check which IO scheduler runs inside the vm. you probably want deadline or noop instead of CFQ, which can have a huge performance impact inside the vms. you can check the default scheduler with: dmesg | grep scheduler you should get an output similar to this: [0.841989] io scheduler noop registered [0.841990] io scheduler deadline registered (default) [0.842028] io scheduler cfq registered HTH Am 19.02.2014 12:15, schrieb Itamar Heim: On 02/19/2014 10:48 AM, Dafna Ron wrote: Actually, I meant how is the network configured rhevm side? are all vm's writing on rhevm interface? Of course scaling the window _that_ small is ridiculous, it´s just to demonstrate the aspect issue that would be for smartphones e.g, on this welcome screen. So my concern here is most of all about the aspect ratio issues involved with having just one big picture as a background. Most sites I´ve seen have either just code, a lot of small pics, parallaxing ones, or one insanely big picture, talking Ultra-HD 4k big, just to be absolutely sure it´s not going to scale in this unwanted way. Re: [Users] Asking for advice on hosted engine
2014-02-18 23:25 GMT+01:00 Ted Miller tmil...@hcjb.org: Giorgio, Gluster on two hosts only is not a good idea. Installed for high reliability (quorum activated), gluster requires that 50% of the nodes be working before anything can be written. When you have only two nodes, that means both nodes must be up before anything can happen. You can turn off quorum, but then you are almost guaranteeing yourself a split-brain headache the first time communication between the two hosts is interrupted, even briefly (been there, done that). Ovirt is constantly writing to the storage, so if they are not communicating you WILL get different things written to the same files in both servers, especially the sanlock files. This is called split-brain, and it will give you a splitting headache. For replicated gluster to work well, you need a minimum of three gluster nodes in replica mode. Two nodes is a recipe for unhappiness. It is either low-availability (quorum on) or a split-brain waiting to spring on you (quorum off). You don't want either one. Hi Ted, thank you for your precious suggestion. I was already aware of these two problems. This setup works if I leave quorum off. I didn't fear split-brain because - in theory - as the communication path between the two hosts is fully redundant, it can't happen: multiple interfaces on different nics connected to multiple switches having redundant power supply. Moreover, I'm using this setup exclusively as a storage backend for the engine VM, nothing else. So - in theory - there is a single VM/host writing at a time. Maybe not exactly this way during the migration of the HostedEngine VM from one host to another. Maybe in that transition there are concurrent write operations from the two hosts. But usually not. Now sanlock worries me more. I wasn't considering how sanlock works (to be honest, I was totally unaware of its operating mode). Maybe this could be the most probable cause of conflicts. Figure out how to use some storage on some third computer to provide a third gluster node. That way only two of the three have to be working for things to keep working. Ted Miller Elkhart, IN In the beginning I tought of having replication on three (or four) bricks, for other reasons. But then I was worried about the performance of a system where every write operation has to be replicated on more than another single brick. This was just an hypotesis by me. Do you have any figure about write performance in this situation? I have found none (probably my fault). Anyway thank you very much for your suggestion, I think I'll go down your way. Better safe than sorry. Best regards, Giorgio. ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Agreed on two node quorum, I'm waiting for a 3rd node right now :) But in the meantime or for anyone who reads this thread, if you only have 2 storage nodes you have to weigh the risks of 2 nodes in quorum ensuring storage consistency, or 2 nodes no quorum with an extra shot at uptime. *Steve Dainard * IT Infrastructure Manager Miovision http://miovision.com/ | *Rethink Traffic* *Blog http://miovision.com/blog | **LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/miovision-technologies | Twitter https://twitter.com/miovision | Facebook https://www.facebook.com/miovision* -- Miovision Technologies Inc. | 148 Manitou Drive, Suite 101, Kitchener, ON, Canada | N2C 1L3 This e-mail may contain information that is privileged or confidential. Re: [Users] SD Disk's Logical Volume not visible/activated on some nodes
Hello, On 19.2.2014, 17:09, Nir Soffer wrote: - Original Message - From: Boyan Tabakov bl...@alslayer.net To: users@ovirt.org Sent: Tuesday, February 18, 2014 3:34:49 PM Subject: [Users] SD Disk's Logical Volume not visible/activated on some nodes Hello, I have ovirt 3.3 installed on on FC 19 hosts with vdsm 4.13.3-2.fc19. Which version of ovirt 3.3 is this? (3.3.2? 3.3.3?) ovirt-engine is 3.3.2-1.fc19 One of the hosts (host1) is engine + node + SPM and the other host2 is just a node. I have an iSCSI storage domain configured and accessible from both nodes. When creating a new disk in the SD, the underlying logical volume gets properly created (seen in vgdisplay output on host1), but doesn't seem to be automatically picked by host2. How do you know it is not seen on host2? It's not present in the output of vgdisplay -v nor vgs. Consequently, when creating/booting a VM with the said disk attached, the VM fails to start on host2, because host2 can't see the LV. Similarly, if the VM is started on host1, it fails to migrate to host2. Extract from host2 log is in the end. The LV in question is 6b35673e-7062-4716-a6c8-d5bf72fe3280. As far as I could track quickly the vdsm code, there is only call to lvs and not to lvscan or lvchange so the host2 LVM doesn't fully refresh. The only workaround so far has been to restart VDSM on host2, which makes it refresh all LVM data properly. When is host2 supposed to pick up any newly created LVs in the SD VG? Any suggestions where the problem might be? When you create a new lv on the shared storage, the new lv should be visible on the other host. Lets start by verifying that you do see the new lv after a disk was created. Try this: 1. Create a new disk, and check the disk uuid in the engine ui 2. On another machine, run this command: lvs -o vg_name,lv_name,tags You can identify the new lv using tags, which should contain the new disk uuid. If you don't see the new lv from the other host, please provide /var/log/messages and /var/log/sanlock.log. Just tried that. The disk is not visible on the non-SPM node. On the SPM node (where the LV is visible in vgs output): Feb 19 19:10:43 host1 vdsm root WARNING File: /rhev/data-center/61f15cc0-8bba-482d-8a81-cd636a581b58/3307f6fa-dd58-43db-ab23-b1fb299006c7/images/4d15543c-4c45-4c23-bbe3-f10b9084472a/3e0ce8cb-3740-49d7-908e-d025875ac9a2 already removed Feb 19 19:10:45 host1 multipathd: dm-65: remove map (uevent) Feb 19 19:10:45 host1 multipathd: dm-65: devmap not registered, can't remove Feb 19 19:10:45 host1 multipathd: dm-65: remove map (uevent) Feb 19 19:10:54 host1 kernel: [1652684.864746] dd: sending ioctl 80306d02 to a partition! Re: [Users] Live migration of VM's occasionally fails
Thanks Steve! I am still perplexed how come one out of two identical vm's would fail migration... logic states that they should both fail. On 02/19/2014 06:29 PM, Steve Dainard wrote: I added another vlan on both hosts, and designated it a migration network. Still the same issue, failed to migrate one of the two VM's. I then deleted a failed posix domain on another gluster volume with some heal tasks pending, with no hosts attached to it, and the VM's migrated successfully. Perhaps gluster isn't passing storage errors up properly for non-dependent volumes. Anyways this is solved for now, just wanted this here for posterity. *Steve Dainard * IT Infrastructure Manager Miovision http://miovision.com/ | /Rethink Traffic/ *Blog http://miovision.com/blog | **LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/miovision-technologies | Twitter https://twitter.com/miovision | Facebook https://www.facebook.com/miovision* Miovision Technologies Inc. | 148 Manitou Drive, Suite 101, Kitchener, ON, Canada | N2C 1L3 This e-mail may contain information that is privileged or confidential. [Users] Help required: Selinux disable for ovirt iso image
I apologize if this comes off a little brusque, but there's really a lot of random information out there right now, to the point where i've seen it confuse not only myself but other new installers. Based on the problems I still have, I have a suggestion, and I also need some help. Again, some of this may come off as a bit of a TLDR Rant but if ovirt is to become popular, I believe my experience as a hardware engineer, software/hardware QA director/manager/engineer, may be valuable to this project. Two things keep me from getting this system working for me in a useful manner: #1, and the most important blocker: Disabling or fixing selinux, using ovirt-node-iso-3.0.3-1.1.vdsm.fc19.iso. #2, getting raritan pdu support For issue #1: I've had a lot of people say disable selinux or fix selinux all over this user list and in recent replies. This really isn't fully helpful information. Even stating edit the /etc/selinux/config or use the kernel boot command selinux=0 or read some other doc on the internet. These all apply to full fledged releases, not to the ovirt iso image. The main issue is that SSHD is not being allowed through selinux by default on this image. The right thing to do would be to fix the image and re-release it, and DELETE the broken one that is currently available. However a simple doc explaining how to persist the selinux disable or fix the SSHD problem with selinux would be the easiest solution. Others ran me down the path of edit the selinux file and persist it which didn't work, but gave no productive help on how to make it permanent. Equally I've been told to edit the grub config and add selinux=0 to the kernel, however after attempting this, adding it manually at the grub boot causes the system not to boot, and I haven't found the *right* grub.cfg file to edit and persist to keep the changes. For issue #2: I've hacked up some of the fence-agents scripts and am in the process of attempting to figure out how to compile/set up my own local copy to verify the raritan changes. Ideally the fence-agents folks would add a generic support portion, which I may actually do myself as well, allowing *any* PDU with at least the usual login/password/command/logout sequence to be used. So you see, I'm not totally useless, I'm helping here. Next suggestions: A) Compatibility list B) Cleanup of old project crap For A) For each release, I suggest there be a spreadsheet or simple document that shows which ovirt ISO images are compatible with which manager versions. There could be a wiki where people can add references to bug #s that have been found and links to their solutions. Right now there are ancient docs all over google searches that send people down paths of days of turmoil to no avail. For B) When iso images or other releases are superseded because of blocking, non-operable bugs, they should either be resolved and re-released or a clear path to making them function be documented. Once a re-release is done, the old images should be wiped out or moved to a clearly marked deprecated folder. Thats my 100 cents worth, I really do appreciate the work and effort that goes into this project, it appears to be a wonderful one, I hope to make good use of it, but the initial learning curve is a real deal breaker I'm sure for many others, especially not those willing and able to spend the time hacking at it like I have for the past week. side note ,reinstalling the nodes to resolve the selinux issue really isn't a great proposition, its time consuming, an after-the-fact method of editing the grub line and adding selinux=0 or enforcing=0 whichever it may be would be ideal. Re: [Users] Help required: Selinux disable for ovirt iso image
I managed to dig,dig dig and have finally resolved issue #1 without reinstall steps 1. put host in maintenance mode 2, log in to host and: 2a. mount -o,rw,remount /run/initramfs/live 2b. edit /run/initramfs/live/grub2/grub.cfg and add selinux=0 to the end of the kernel line (starts with linux /vmlinuz0 2c. reboot the host 3. log in and try getenforce - selinux says disabled. 4. I tried to Activate the host and the manager returned non-operational, so I had to remove and re-add the host. Manager version: 3.3.3-2.fc19 and iso ovirt-node-iso-3.0.3-1.1.vdsm.fc19.iso On Wed, Feb 19, 2014 at 12:14 PM, David Smith dsm...@mypchelp.com wrote: side note ,reinstalling the nodes to resolve the selinux issue really isn't a great proposition, its time consuming, an after-the-fact method of editing the grub line and adding selinux=0 or enforcing=0 whichever it may be would be ideal.
