As I already wrote to you you have to put the host into maintenance mode
in order to be able to configure local storage. Didn't this work?

decent number of spindles and a lot of ram for cache on the storage

Hi,

I submitted a tutorial proposal to LISA '14 called Hands-on with oVirt, but it was

Basically a lab is just a one or two sheet set of instructions that would
describe to someone how to test out oVirt All-In-One in the LISA lab.

I know there have been demos of oVirt all-in-one at other conferences. Does
anyone have a list of presentation-friendly instructions that he/she could
share?

Thanks!

PS -- Actually -- the 'demo' doesn't have to be all-in-one, but I was thinking
that would be easiest given the unknown lab hardware at LISA. If the lab is
very powerful, I suppose attendees could try to setup separate nodes. I'll try
to find out lab details.

[ovirt-users] password with the character not valid during engine-setup

2014-05-30 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hello,

It is not the first time I've noticed that I couldn't choose the
password of my own when running engine-setup. I'm used to build my
passsords with and each time I choose this one for the db postgres
user or the adminb account, engine-setup accept it, but it not usable
anymore when trying to log on. I 've found the same issuewhen installing
engine-reports, it was aboslutely impossible to log in the report portal.
When I change this password into an other one without this character, it
works as expected.
My keyboard is a french one using fr_FR.UTF8 encoding, but I've never
met any other issue expect this one.

Is bad interpreted or does it act as a separator character?

[ovirt-users] VM external-VM name was created by Non interactive use

2014-05-30 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hello,

I imported a vm as a template from the glance public repo included in
ovirt 3.4. When creating a new VM (azerty) based on this template, I
run once with cloud-init. The first boot behaves normally and my vm
azerty goes up. When trying to reboot, it always fails and I can't use
it anymore. In addition, a new empty externel-azerty vm is created with
the external prefix by a mysterious non interactive user. When I
delete it, it is automatically recreated unless I remove azerty.

Can anybody explain?

[ovirt-users] oVirt Infiniband Support - Etherrnet vs Infiniband

2014-05-30 Thread ml ml
Hello List,

i am very new to ovirt. I am setting up a 2 Node Cluster with GlusterFS
Sync Replication.

I was about to buy a 2-Port Intel Gbit nic for each host which is about
150Eur each.

However, for a little extra of 180Eur you get a 10GBit Infiniband -
MCX311A-XCAT.

I would like to have quick opinions on this.

Should i pay a little more and then get 10MBit instead of 2GBit bonded?

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Running oVirt node on existing OS installation

2014-05-30 Thread Simon Barrett
http://www.ovirt.org/Quick_Start_Guide#Install_Fedora_Host

The above doc says In addition to hypervisor hosts, you can also reconfigure
servers which are running Fedora to be used as virtual machine hosts.

It then has a line to install the repos:

yum localinstall
http://plain.resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release34.rpm

but then jumps to iptables configuration. Am I missing something?

Can anyone give me any pointers on the steps I need to do (after the intial
ovirt-release34.rpm yum install) to install and configure ovirt-node on a
CentOS or Fedora host?

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] yaml cloud-init custom scripts

2014-05-30 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hello,

I've been unsuccessfully trying to make work a custom yalm script with
the cloud-init option in 3.4.1.

All other native UI parameters are correctly configured (hostname...)

My goal is to change the keyboard layout:
 write_files:
- content: |
# My new /etc/sysconfig/keyboard file
   KEYTABLE=fr
MODEL=pc105
LAYOUT=fr
KEYBOARDTYPE=pc
path: /etc/sysconfig/keyboard
permissions: '0644'

I can't see what is wrong and there is nothing into cloud-init logs on
the guest (/var/log/clou-init-output.log).

Is it possible to see the whole yalm file generated by the engine somewhere?

[ovirt-users] vm boots on gpxe instead of hardisk

2014-05-30 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hi all,

I created a vm from a glance fetched template and this vm always run
into gpxe priority while it is ordered by harddisk in priority. When I
run it once, hard disk is unvailaible because the default disk is no
bootable. When making it bootable, it becomes ungreyed and harddisk is
is priority but the vm continue to boot to the gpxe. I have to manually
select cdrom or pxe in first boot, save, then move again hardidsk at the
first place and that time the vm boot on hard disk.

Pretty nasty. Is there a bug open?

We're getting a timeout on an NFS mount during the powerdown
(single-node hosted, after global maintenance enabled and engine powered
off), and that makes the machine reboot and try to come back up again
instead of powering off.

So two issues:
- What is the mount that is hanging (probably an oVirt issue)?
- Why does the system reboot instead of powering down as instructed (?)?

Infiniband is good for GlusterFS / storage connection but never never
never never ever use it as a vm network - believe me it's a nightmare.

So you would direct connect your 2 nodes as otherwise you would have to
buy an Infiniband switch as well (btw I'm not sure if direct connect is
possible, but I guess it is). Keep in mind that Infiniband cables aren't
cheap, too.

Why don't you go for 10Gbit/s Ethernet?

the reboot is caused by wdmd. Docs says that if the watchdogs aren´t
responding that a reset will follow. So our init 0 is overruled because
of the hanging watchdog. Why it is hanging I don´t know. Could be my
chipset, could be the version of wdmd-kernel. Only thing is I know it
didn´t happen always in the past but that is as much as I remember, sorry.
