Subject: [ovirt-users] Adding Fedora 20 Support

 Hello,

I recently came across the LWN article on oVirt 3.4
 (http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/600370/dfa9cdd4f5ee0bb3/) and was
discussing the lack of Fedora 20 support with an oVirt contributor,
 bkp.

It's been 4 months since I last looked at running oVirt. I use Fedora
20 on all of my infrastructure, so I was quite surprised that there is
still not support for running the engine on F20. Anyways, rather than
just complaining, I figured it would be more helpful to volunteer some
 time to fix the issue.

 1) I've tried looking through the oVirt bug reports to see what's
happening with Fedora 20. So far, I have identified three issues that
prevent 3.4 from working. Fedora includes sos-3, sos doesn't have
support for all ovirt plugins, and only has Wildfly instead of
JBoss-as. The full list of bugs is listed in
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1060198.

This is a tracker bug, depending on various other bugs. One of them
is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1055604 . As can be
seen there, it was intended to be supported in 3.4.2, but was then
reverted due to last-minute issues.

That's the path to the folder on your host which should contain your vm
disk files. If you want your vm disks under /data/vms then use this path.

Just make sure the path exists, no files are in this directory and that
it is writable by 36:36 (vdsm:kvm).

It works, but:

- With spice-xpi the automatic USB redirection didn't work. I had to

select the USB device I want to redirect

- With native client USB redirection works out of the box

Btw, I also figured out that Fedora 20 (the client) blocks USB

Did you try the native client on Debian? Maybe the spice-xpi version is

Hi Andrew,

Afaict, there should be manual intervention to resume a 'paused vm' in

that has been fixed since 3.3 with auto-resume paused vm's after EIO

Also, I failed to understand the setup you have, that said, you mentioned:

resuming a VM from a paused state on top
of NFS share? Even when the VMs are marked as HA, if the gluster
storage goes down for a few seconds the VMs go to a paused state and
can never be resumed

Do you have NFS storage domain configured by specifying gluster server
ip and volume name in place of server and export path ?

can you please detail the setup (wrt storage domain configuration and
gluster volumes) and version of ovirt and gluster in use ?

I recall when using NFS to not have this issue.

it should be a bug if your cluser have gluster service enabled, but a

I dont have the exspected Volumes Tab to add Bricks.

So now I have to ask, what is the purpose of ovirt-all-in-one?

Just for tech demos at events?

I can live with any solution, but I feel it will limit ovirts adoption
and the use-cases should get better documented.

There are still many beginners asking very basic questions on this ML
and I think this shows the lack of a better documentation for the first
steps to take for a working ovirt environment.

Or what do you think?

Hi Sven,
All-in-one is classic-style installation (ie- not running in a vm), and indeed
was created for demo's. However it indeed may grow to support additional hosts
in a different DC, as the one it starts with is for local storage. This is why
I was saying that the issue is not technical but requires some understanding
of the admin to where he wants to go.

As for documentation, that's always an issue. Keeping docs updated is an on
going
task and we'd appreciate any assistance we get for it.

Sven - so assuming we want to reduce the number of configurations we
want to support, instead of all-in-one which was our previous solutions
for POCs/Demos, what would look different for hosted-engine on a single
host? just not have the ha feature?

 Hey,
oVirt works with libvirt and kvm.

In order to know what is supported with kvm you can check:

As for libvirt, they provide a wiki on troubleshooting it:

OK after repeating the stpes that I followed in my prior posts
1. Stop the VM
2. Export it
3. Delete it (the VM not the export)
4. Re-import the VM

After following those steps I was able to live migrate the disks without error.
I'm not sure why this fixed the problem, but what I can say is that there was a
problem with the default Blank template. The problem started when i upgraded
from 3.3.3 to 3.3.4. This carried over to the version 3.4.x

Is there any way to change the template assignment of an already created
vm? This is related to my live disk migration problem. I found that all
of the vms that I created that were based on the out of the box Blank
template would fail. I created a new Default template and created a vm
based on it and was able to live migrate the disk. I need to be able to
change the template its based on because I already have close to 30 VMs
created based on the old Blank template

blank template doesn't have any disks, so this sounds strange.

That's the path to the folder on your host which should contain your vm
disk files. If you want your vm disks under /data/vms then use this path.

Just make sure the path exists, no files are in this directory and that it
 is writable by 36:36 (vdsm:kvm).

 Run the following commands

 #yum install ovirt-websocket-proxy
 #chkconfig ovirt-websocket-proxy on
 #service ovirt-websocket-proxy start

Then you have to trust the CA that issued the ovirt certificate by
pointing your browser to the following address
 https://ovirt address/ca.crt
 Trust the certificate

You should now be able to use the HTML 5 viewer

[ovirt-users] Cann't ping guest from outside

I can see only arp working, how do I check this problem? and how vdsm

Its mentioned in the documentation that you will need a working dns
infrastructure, either using a dns server or using host files.

I discovered by accident yesterday that if you name your vms with its ip
address that you probably won't need everything in dns or hosts but that gets
cumbersome quite fast.
