There have been a lot of issues with setups like that. GlusterFS does not
ensure that the metadata writes are atomic and visible to all nodes at the
same time and that causes serious trouble (the synchronization algorithm
 relies on the atomicity assumption).

You can use GlusterFS storage domain for VMs, but the hosted engine storage
domain needs something else - NFS or iSCSI (available in 3.5).

You should maybe document this with a big fat warning
sign on the wiki and in the release notes and on the
feature pages.

I think many people will just combine what ovirt offers
if there is just a warning hidden somewhere on a mailing
list.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ip spoofing

2014-07-09 Thread Jure Kranjc

Hi,

I don't know if this is much help but here is our setup which
works in a way that users cannot spoof public IP from inside VM.
We've set up a MAC pool range on engine and a DHCP server on one
VM, this server assigns IPs according to VMs MACs.
We use CentOS6 nodes (and engine 3.3.5). The node always sees the
VM's NIC by it's ovirt MAC, even if user changes it from inside
  VM.
Now the solution was ebtables (bridge tables). We've set rules on
bridge to public network which drops packets if they don't come
  from legit MAC/IP combination. Example:

  -A FORWARD -p IPv4 -s 0:1a:4a:f9:xx:xx --ip-src ! IPADDRofVM -j
  DROP

Any comments on the setup are appriceated.

any easy way to do this?

very easly, use os-info to change vnc/cirrus to vnc/vga for the OS you like
you need to create 10-osinfo.properties under share/ovirt-engine/conf/ to
override os configurations

(look at osinfo-defaults.properties and in http://www.ovirt.org/OS_info for

 Hi,
you'd have to do it the same way as the backend java code does that.
 There's no special shortcut/API.

depending on what are you specifically doing, you may not even need to do
that. If you bypass ovirt's websocket-proxy and e.g. connect to hosts
directly (and run/setup websocket proxy your own way) then you can also
implement the security of client-proxy in some other way.

you just pass the necessary information from the ticket to the console?

you might need to alter some of the html5 stuff in novnc to achieve
that. Did you even took a look at the novnc source shipped with ovirt?

I know this is possible with just a few tweaks, because I've seen people
do it already, but I can't guide you step-by-step, after all, you're the

Well,

the guest-agent has no dependency on 3.5
as I'm actually running it on production debian vms :)
it's an entire different repository, so I don't see the link
between guest-agent and engine release.

I'll surely help testing these things as much as I can :)

Thanks for the reply.

one thing i that you're using it another thing to sort of officially declare it

In this particular case - do you need the icon in user portal? If not you can
just go ahead and drop in your own property file into
/etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf/ (I think) with those few lines for Debian (or
anything else) and you're all set. Just remove it on upgrade to 3.5

Re: [ovirt-users] video driver selection for VNC consoles

2014-07-09 Thread Darrell Budic
Nice, I missed this somewhere along the line.

Unfortunately, it’s not working for me. I created a 10-osinfo.properties in
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/conf and symlinked it into
/etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d for good measure, restarted jboss-as and
ovirt-engine, and started up a VM but it still got a -vga cirrus device.

Contents of my 10-osinfo.properties:
os.other.devices.display.protocols.value = vnc/vga,qxl/qxl

I notice I didn’t have an os.other.devices.display.protocols in my existing
00-defaults.properties. I’m running 3.3.4 on this cluster, is this fully
supported in that version?

any easy way to do this?

very easly, use os-info to change vnc/cirrus to vnc/vga for the OS you like
you need to create 10-osinfo.properties under share/ovirt-engine/conf/ to
 override os configurations

(look at osinfo-defaults.properties and in http://www.ovirt.org/OS_info for
 more info )

[ovirt-users] RFE/Bug in engine-iso-uploader / image uploader with NFSv4 shares

2014-07-09 Thread Daniel Helgenberger
Hello,

can maybe someone confirm this before I head on to bugzilla for an RFE?

When using engine-iso / image uploader scrips in conjunction with NFSv4
iso domains on my F20 client, the upload fails with:

ERROR: mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified

I might be hitting a Fedora bug; anyway:

Workaround:
Add 'nfsvers=3' mount option, changing line 42 in the (iso-uploader)
script:

NFS_MOUNT_OPTS = '-t nfs -o rw,sync,soft,nfsvers=3'

AFAIK this should always work, no matter what. Making the mount options
part of the appropriate /etc/ovirt-engine/*.conf files could be a
solution here.

Cheers,

Indeed, you are right, is the same bug. I didn't find this bug when googled
the problem. I have attached an extract of the logs when I tried to remove
the host, it looks identical to the logs reported in the bug except that
postgres transactions are logged in Spanish.

Thanks

I will try to find the log entry when the vm was migrated and the value was
not correctly updated in the migrating_to_vds field. I think that that is
 the more critical bug.

I was able to reproduce it on 3.4 branch and to understand the problem.
On master it was fixed by: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/24799/
I'll backport this patch and it will solve it on 3.4 as well.

VM live migration works, live _disk_ migration does not.

Only way to get that is with RHEL really then?

No, as I earlier pointed out, there is a place you can get the packages you
 need for CentOS:
 http://jenkins.ovirt.org/view/All/job/qemu-kvm-rhev_create-rpms_el6/lastStableBuild/

You'll have to download- and force install them over the already installed
versions of those packages on all Hosts and then it'll work.

Though, next time there are updates, yum will update from the standard repos
and it just stops working again until you repeat the procedure.

 /K

Just add exclude=qemu-kvm* in /etc/yum.conf so yum will leave them allone

which come with ilo4. I was able to get a successful status check from
the command line with fence_ilo4, but not w/ the ilo4 option in ovirt.

I see, though, that ilo4 in ovirt just maps to fence_ipmilan, and I was
not able to get a successful status check w/ fence_ipmilan from the cli.

So, I tried resetting the mapping so that ilo4 maps to ilo4. Now I can
complete the power management test in ovirt, but I imagine there's some
reason why ovirt isn't configured this way by default.

Will fencing actually work for me with ilo4 mapped to ilo4, rather than
to ipmilan?

Thanks, Jason

If I use Fedora will everything work? I had numerous issues, IIRC I
could not even get the ovirtmgmt switch to install and a few other
things. What version of Fedora do you recommend then? Ill do another
install and give that a whirl again.

My current setup is on F20, with a hosted engine running on CentOS 6.5.

I mainly use Fedora because nested kvm works better there.

My storage is gluster, hosted on the F20 machines. I'm seeing some
SELinux issues right now, so I'm in permissive mode until I can
file bugs for them.

Well, going with Fedora would at least get you the snapshots working, if I
remember correctly, but that's not something you run in production. As you
  said, major issues.

For CentOS, you need special versions of certain packages, since RedHat
wants you to pay for RHEV, they have chosen to cripple the standard
packages so those features won't work:
  http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/devel/2014-June/007735.html

And here you can find the packages you need:

Re: [ovirt-users] ilo4 vs. ipmilan fencing agents

2014-07-09 Thread Jason Brooks
My colleague figured out that in order for ipmilan to work, I had to
include lanplus=on in the options. Apparently, lanplus=on is the
default for the ilo4 agent, and lanplus=off is the default for the
ipmilan agent.

[ovirt-users] VM Contextutalization?

2014-07-09 Thread Brian Proffitt
One of the CentOS developers has asked me if oVirt could be used to create
something like this:

http://wiki.centos.org/Cloud/OpenNebula

Only with oVirt rather than OpenNebula. Anyone have any pointers/ideas?

We can use oVirt to export CentOS OVF images. Users will then upload the
image to oVirt using engine-image-uploader.

Re: [ovirt-users] Disk's locked of VM

2014-07-09 Thread Andy Michielsen
Hello Vered,

Sorry for the late reply. You did more than try. With your help I resolved
my problem.

I was busy doing my job. This is only a side thing according to my boss but
he doesn't know how much time we will safe if we have a decent and easy to
use test enviroment to see why something happen in the real world at our
customers.

But anyways ...

I have the following setup. One server with the engine on and this one also
delivers the storage via nfs.
On another server I have only the VDSM setup.

When I say I'm trying to put the disk in stateless mode (off a VM machine)
I' mean that I'm trying to install new software on a VM but when I reboot
everything is back the way it was before the changed situation of the new
software.

Kind regards.

 Hi Andy,

Happy to (try to) help :)

What do you mean by putting the disks in stateless mode?
By server do you mean the storage server, I presume?
If so, I can see how this might have caused corruption. Still Would like
to be sure what you mean to better understand the issue.
Unfortunately, vdsm log was not helpful due to the gap, but the engine log
might help out if I knew what operation I was looking for.
BTW, Was the vdsm log on the SPM machine? If not, and you do still have it
(or a rotation of it), I'd like to take a look and see if we have a bug
 hiding there.

 Thanks,
 Vered

  Hello Vered,

We where trying to put the disks i stateless mode and the user was
 impatient
  and also started the server.
I have changed the lock status now but the machine was broken. I 'm
 already
creating a new VM as these are test machines and I don't care about the
 data
  in these VM's.

Thank you very much for your assistance so far. I 'm curious still what
happened though so if you have questions I will give additional info if
  needed.

  Kind regards.

Sorry, got sent in the middle.

  Andy,

What operation did you try to attempt that caused the disks to lock?

You do have a working engine, right?
Your'e supposed to be able to see the Disks' GUIDs under the Disks main
 tab
  (Id column).

The images GUIDs are available in the DB (images table) and through
 vdsClient
  getVolumesList sdUUID spUUID [imgUUID]
imgUUID should be the disk's GUID in the engine.
You should be able to get that data from vdsClient as well:
  getImagesList sdUUID
  relevant sql query:
  select image_guid, imagestatus from images;

  *image status 2 is locked...

  The spUUID:
Either the datacenter GUID in the engine, or -
vdsClient -s 0 getConnectedStoragePoolsList, or in the db:
  select * from storage_pool;

The StorageDomain's can be retrieved either by DB (bellow) or vdsClient:
  getStorageDomainsList spUUID (from above).
  sql query:
select storage_name, id from storage_domains where
  storage_pool_id='spUUID';

   2014-06-30 17:40 GMT+02:00 Vered Volansky ve...@redhat.com :

   Or better yet, just use:

oVirtDir/share/ovirt-engine/dbscripts/unlock_entity.sh

I suppose you have the images GUIDs from engine.

   BUT -
If the images never got released you might want to get to know what got
   them
into this in the first place.
You can send vdsm and engine logs from that period of time if you
 still got
them, and we'll take a look.

   Regards,
   Vered

 Hello,

How can I connect to my postgress database ?
Try this:
psql -d engine -U engine .

This is assuming you're using password authentication.
If you aren't please send me your pg_hba.conf settings and we'll go
forward
from there:

Fedora,RHEL /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf
Debian /etc/postgresql/*/main/pg_hba.conf
Gentoo /etc/postgresql-*/pg_hba.conf

 Kind regards.
