[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.0 status - Go / No Go

2014-09-22 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We are supposed to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 GA (or RC3, depending on this
morning Go / No go Meeting decisions)
I think we can use this email for discussing / voting 3.5.0 GA release.
Looking at bugzilla status, I vote no go. I also think we should move the build
to Wed allowing maintainers to fix pending blockers.

Maintainers:
- Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot satisfy release criteria[9]
- Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release
- If any patch must block the GA release please raise the issue as soon as
possible.
- If any packages need a rebase please raise the issue as soon as possible.
- Be aware that packages that doesn't need a rebase must be re-built with final
release versioning from the RC2 tag.

The bug tracker [1] shows the following proposed blockers to be reviewed:

Bug ID  Whiteboard  Status  Summary
1143042 infra POSTRepeated error Failed to create VM
external-test when starting new VM
1143860 infra POSTMarshaling issue in fencing policy

1142256 integration NEW remote engine-reports-setup does not
write conf file to allow accessing reports from engine
1144079 integration ASSIGNEDlocal engine-reports-setup does not

The following bugs are keyworded as Regression and not marked as blockers[10]

Bug ID  Whiteboard  Status  Summary

domain V1 fails with InquireNotSupportedError

Feature freeze is now effective, and branch has been created.
All new patches must be backported to 3.5 branch too.
Features completed are marked in green on Features Status Table [2]

There are still 77 bugs [3] targeted to 3.5.0.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 53 bugs [4] targeted to
3.5.0.

[ovirt-users] glusterized

2014-09-22 Thread Demeter Tibor
Hi,

I would make a self-hosted ovirt3.5 based on glusterfs, so the hosts will be
the main storage.
I followed up the
http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/05/ovirt-3-4-glusterized/ .
I have a question about it.
Does really need the ctdb service for this? Is the localhost trick won't
working for access glusterfs?

Thanks for advance,

Tibor

Hello,

it seems this feature is temporary disabled in oVirt due the some bug in
libvirt/qemu with qcow2. Can I enable it manually when not using
qcow2? Fuse gluster seems to be very slow :-/

Thanks, Jiri

Dne 15.9.2014 v 21:23 J. Mikulec napsal(a):

Hello,

at http://www.ovirt.org/Features/GlusterFS_Storage_Domain I can read
oVirt allows glusterfs domains which maps to
disk type=network./disk in libvirt xml without USE overhead.

My oVirt still creates and uses mount for disks at qemu as
-drive file=/rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD

Is possible to use GlusterFS storage domain without FUSE?

Fedora 19, oVirt 3.4 (Centos 7 the same)

My problem was

[ovirt-users] OVIRT-3.5-TEST-DAY-3: Network Custom Properties

2014-09-22 Thread Ido Barkan
Hi,

Following is a summery of testing the Network custom properties feature as
detailed the link at the bottom.

setUp:
==
engine: F19
Hosts:
F20 (virtual)
REHL 6.5 (physical)
- in separate clusters

Network custom properties:
==

1. I have defined a custom property entry via 'engine-config' cli and verified
it consisted.
 * The property was defined with a validation regular expression
 * note that this requires an engine restart.
2. Added a new network to the DC and set the new property with the new
drop-down value of 'custom properties'.
 - verified that violating the regular expression validation fails the network
set up (client side validation).
 - verified that a legal value is passed to the server using a custom hook at
before_network_setup stage.
   [hook code attached]
3. removed the value from the DB
-- verified it is no longer available in the set up networks custom properties
drop down.

bridge options:
===

1. changed the bridge options at the OS level (via editing
/sys/class/net/bridge/bridge/options)
2. defined overrides in the logical level using the bridge_opts drop down value
(key=value comma separated list)
--verified that the values are changed after setting up network
3. removed the logical level settings
-- verified that the values are set back to the original ones

ethtool options:

* note- testing this on a virtual host, or on a virtual NIC on a physical host
is pretty useless. For the NIC driver
to be capable of actually allowing NIC changes you need a bare metal NIC.

1. installed the vdsm-hook-ethtool-options hook on a physical host
2. set up network with the following ethtool command line arguments added: -s
eth1 speed 100 autoneg off
-- verified using ethtool that changes took place
3. set up network with the following ethtool command line arguments added: -s
eth1 autoneg on
-- verified using ethtool that changes took place

feature page: http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Network_Custom_Properties

Thanks,
Ido

logger category=org.ovirt.engine.core.bll

Look at the + lines, please add these (without the +) just before: logger

libvirt/qemu with qcow2. Can I enable it manually when not using
qcow2? Fuse gluster seems to be very slow :-/

you'd need a patch for this.
libvirt latest version is supposed to resolve the issue, so we plan to
revisit shortly with such a patch for folks to help testing this.

Thanks, Jiri

Dne 15.9.2014 v 21:23 J. Mikulec napsal(a):

Hello,

at http://www.ovirt.org/Features/GlusterFS_Storage_Domain I can read
oVirt allows glusterfs domains which maps to
disk type=network./disk in libvirt xml without USE overhead.

My oVirt still creates and uses mount for disks at qemu as
-drive file=/rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD

Is possible to use GlusterFS storage domain without FUSE?

Fedora 19, oVirt 3.4 (Centos 7 the same)

Thanks! Jiri

Hi, Alon,

Following Alon's advice, I added authz-company.properties file to the
configuration directory.
Then OpenLDAP users can searched from oVirt Web admin. and I could add
it's
users
to the portal successfully.

But I have another problem.
These OpenLDAP users that I added can not login to ovirt web user
portal.

User Name: Fumihide (This is shown on Web Admin Portal Users tab as

Password: (I specified it as OpenLDAP's userPassword for Fumihide)

Not sure what adds crlf to your file... please use *NIX editor, please use

Per our previous discussion, you should modify:
  file-handler name=ENGINE autoflush=true
level name=INFO/
Into:
  file-handler name=ENGINE autoflush=true
level name=FINEST/

You should see a difference.

 Once you install virt-viewer in Windows, it should be associated with .vv
 files. When you click Console then, you should be offered with .vv file
 download, let it open with virt-viewer (should work
 out-of-the-box) and voilà, you should see your console.

 If you're not offered with .vv file for download, try choosing Native
 client method in Console options (and of course if you have spice console
 selected in VM options)

 so,

  I am assuming I connect to virt-engine for this - should the console

 yes, it should,

   or do I have to start the remote view separately?

 no,

  I turned the firewall off to make sure that isn't the problem.

 Firewall is not involved unless you restrict outbound connections as well,

  It appears its trying fire virt-manager up on to a remote x display I
  guess, but I just get unable to connect to the graphic server
  spice://ovirt.pbi.global.pvt:5900

 again, virt-manager is not the thingy you want, virt-viewer is.

  Hi Bill,

  Yes, the document is already dated. Lately, you don't have to go through
  the hoops needed to make spice-x work. Even if you can get it, it will only
  work for you in IE 11. You should instead just install virt-viewer [1]
  and the consoles should Just Work for you using the Natice Client (.vv

 Thank you. IE wasn't telling me about a .vv download...

It may be caused by spice-x presence in the system. If you remove it
from IE, IE should offer you .vv file download. spice-activex doesn't
have an uninstaller so you can remove it from IE using About
plugins... -- All plug-ins -- Red Hat SpiceX -- Remove (from top of
my head so YMMV). It should do the job but there will still be some
traces scattered across the registry - try looking for spicex, spice-x,
spice-activex, ACD6D89C-938D-49B4-8E81-DDBD13F4B48A and
ACD6D89C-938D-49B4-8E81-DDBD13F4B48B (the UUIDs are class IDs used by
x86 and x86_64 versions of plug-in respectively).

Regards,

David

 I had reverted to using IE as virt-engine seemed like it was happier with me
 using IE and warned me that graphic display wasn't optimal with FireFox.. so
 anyway, I tried FireFox again and it offered to download the .vv file and I
 opened it and associated it with Remote Viewer and yes it works. Looks like
 I am back on track again.

 Once you install virt-viewer in Windows, it should be associated with .vv
 files. When you click Console then, you should be offered with .vv file
 download, let it open with virt-viewer (should work
 out-of-the-box) and voilà, you should see your console.

 If you're not offered with .vv file for download, try choosing Native

 yes, it should,

[ovirt-users] self hosted engine migration to existsing node question

2014-09-22 Thread Jeremiah Jahn
So I have a number of nodes already running and in production. My
engine is sitting on a test box, and needs to be moved onto the
already existing nodes. I've read all the docs, but none of them seem
to address the the use of an already existing node. if I run
hosted-engine --deploy on an already existing node, is it going to
mess things up, or is it really just adding some additional config
files, and creating a new VM? Also does it take any additional work to
get the engine enabled on all of the other nodes for the HA version?

[ovirt-users] question on VM

2014-09-22 Thread Bill Dossett
Hi,

I am creating my first ovirt VM from a windows 2008 R2 iso.

After setting it all up, loading the drivers etc it looks fine, but it seems
like it has no network connectivity. This is odd as it is obtaining a DHCP
address and it looks like it can browse for other windows systems on the
network. But I can't ping it, it can't ping out and I can't remote desktop
into it. Normally this sounds like a firewall problem, but I disabled that
immediately. It is using the virtio driver. It is connected to the default
network ovirtmgmt which has a dhcp server on it. Ovirt-engine says the
interface is up and connected and windows thinks it is connected to an unknown
network with out internet access. I can't ping the default gateway from the VM
console. Seems silly, but I've kind of run out of things to try on this now.
I am using VLAN tagging on the ovirt-engine network side of things and it is
plugged into a trunked port... but I wouldn't think that has anything to do
with the VM itself as I am not doing anything with VLANs on the VM itself, it
is just connected to it. All the host network/interfaces are pingable in the
cluster as well.

Thanks if anyone has any ideas what I might be looking for.

 Hi,

 like suject I have a problem with connect VM (only Windows type Desctop) I
 get an Error:
 Error connecting to Virtual Machine using RPD:
 DNS Lookup Failed

- why not use SPICE?

- do you have a guest agent installed on your VM?
installing a guest agent on your VM will cause the VM to report its IP address
back to ovirt, and ovirt will be able to connect to the VM via the VM's IP
address, rather than try to connect to the VM via its name.domain, which may
not be DNS-resolvable on the client.
if the VM's name.domain *should* be DNS-resolvable on the client, you need to
check the client's configuration and make sure that it indeed can DNS-resolve
machine-names properly.

Re: [ovirt-users] VM autoconfiguration

2014-09-22 Thread J. Mikulec

Hello,

so, first for Centos 6.5.

I made a template with steps from
http://www.ovirt.org/Quick_Start_Guide:

touch /.unconfigured
rm -rf /etc/ssh/ssh_host_*

After starting system created from my template it stops on set new root
password, I must set something (may be empty) and then shows up
authconfig-tui, must confirm.

After this cloud-init set everything ok - network, hostname,
authorized_keys, root password. To have network working, must set
network in Initial Run to eth1, not eth0. So it is good to remove
ifcfg-eth0 from template. But works.

Bad thing is that stop on root password and authconfig-tui. I think it
is some issue with unconfigured state, not with cloud-init - but don't know.

cloud-init-0.7.4-2.el6.noarch from epel, don't know simple way to
downgrade.

cloud-init logs:

 I want to unmounted the hosted-engine NFS share without affecting all
 the other running VMs on the host. When I shutdown the hosted-engine
 and enable global maintenance, the storage pool is still mounted and I
 can’t unmount it because the “sanlock” process is using it.

 Is there any way to disconnect the storage pool? There is a

 Thanks,

Hi Ryan,
Hosted engine does not unmount the share since there may be other VMs using it
(as a general rule).
However this may deserve some additional thoughts. Do you mind opening an RFE
for it?

Hello again,

Centos 7:

Everything works except network needs manually restart to work (but
config is done by cloud-init). Is workaround to send custom command
through cloud-init to restart network service?

It also neither do not setup resolv.conf nor add DNS settings to
ifcfg-eth0 (workaround may be to let this settings in ifcfg-eth0 filled
from template)

2014-09-22 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
installed a CentOS 6.5 x86_64 vm from iso (create VM and then run once
connecting CD iso).

System reboot several times and power on from web admin gui and all seems
ok.

At a certain point I upload guest-tools iso to my engine for future windows
VMs.
Taken ovirt-guest-tools-3.5_5.iso and try to mount it

In engine the downloaded file seems ok and I can loop mount it for test.

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine 3.5 rpm missing for el7

2014-09-22 Thread SULLIVAN, Chris (WGK)
Hi,

I’m testing hosted-engine v3.5.0 on el7 and it’s mostly progressing ok, however
when I go to install ovirt-engine 3.5 on the hosted engine VM (also running
el7) the rpm is missing. I’ve checked the repo locations on resources.ovirt.org
and it appears that ovirt-engine is not being built for el7, whereas it exists
for el6/f19/f20.

Are there plans to build ovirt-engine 3.5 for el7 or are there blockers
specific to that OS version? Alternatively, can I mix and el6 engine with el7
hosts all running ovirt 3.5?

Thanks,

Chris Sullivan

[ovirt-users] ovirt engine not responding

2014-09-22 Thread Thomas Scofield
Since upgrading our ovirt setup from 3.2 to 3.3 we have run into some
issues with the ovirt-engine becoming non responsive. The first few times
we just cycled the server and moved on with things, but the problem kept
re-occurring. After digging into the server.log we identified a number of
errors, some samples below

2014-09-18 03:20:06,115 ERROR [org.jboss.as.server.deployment.scanner]
(DeploymentScanner-threads - 2) JBAS015004: Caught exception writing

2014-09-18 03:20:06,121 ERROR [org.jboss.as.server.deployment.scanner]

java.io.FileNotFoundException:
/var/tmp/ovirt-engine/deployments/engine.ear.isundeploying (No such file or
directory)

I didn't see any similar messages posted to the forum. After doing some
digging we found that the OS delivered /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch was the
culprit. It has an line that cleans up /var/tmp.

flags=-umc
/usr/sbin/tmpwatch $flags 30d /var/tmp

The tmpwatch combined with the noatime that we have set in fstab causes
these files to be deleted. Our immediate solution will be to remove the
noatime from fstab. Should these files be moved to a different directory,
or can the engine recreate them if they get removed from the tmp directory?

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine 3.5 rpm missing for el7

2014-09-22 Thread SULLIVAN, Chris (WGK)
Hi,

The below response from Sandro on 12/08 in appears to answer the first question:

 Is there any roadmap for supporting ovirt-engine on centos 7 ?

 It's not in 3.5 features so it will probably land in 3.6.

 You can install oVirt Hosted Engine on centos 7 host and use centos 6.5 for
 the engine VM only.

As to the second question – the above response implies that mixing el6 engine
with el7 hosts with ovirt 3.5 is ok. However just to confirm, is anyone running
this combination and if so did you experience any major issues or
missing/broken functionality?

Cheers,

Chris Sullivan

Re: [ovirt-users] Error while using REST API with Ovirt

2014-09-22 Thread Chandrahasa S
Dear Juan,

Thanks lot for support.

Internal server error issue also resolved with linux guests. Now we are
able to provide ip and hostname to linux guests in rhev 3.4 successfully
via RESTAPI giving boot protocol as static as advised.

For Windows Guest we did the following:
1) Prepared a template with guest agents installed and deployed a vm
successfully through RESTAPI.
2) Following initialization part same as Linux guest did not work in
this case and it gives default/garbage ip,hostname to the vm.
3) So we tried giving it through sysprep/payload tag through REST
API. Code snippet is as follows:

HttpPut put = new HttpPut(

https://rhevmanager/api/vms/7dac74d2-c504-4bbd-8659-c8773a844cb3/;);
String inputXML1 = ?xml version=\1.0\?
/*vm*/
+sso+methods+method
id=\+GUEST_AGENT+\/+/methods+/sso
 +domain+nameultimatixuat.net/name+/domain

+payloads+payload
type=\+floppy+\+ files+file
 +name/WEB-INF/sysprep.xml/name
 +/file+/files+/payload+/payloads
 +reported_devices+reported_device+ips+ip
address=\+1.1.1.1+\//ips

+fqdnWIN-AS05EOADAwerwer/fqdn+/reported_device+reported_devices;

StringEntity input1 = new StringEntity(inputXML1);
put.setEntity(input1);
put.setHeader(Content-Type, application/xml);
HttpResponse responseNIC =
httpclient.execute(put);
System.out
.println(RESPONSE
:::
+ responseNIC);

BufferedReader rd1 = new BufferedReader(new
InputStreamReader(
 responseNIC.getEntity().getContent()));
String line1 = ;
while ((line1 = rd1.readLine()) != null) {
System.out.println(LINE :  +
line1);
}

The output says that my code is syntactically incorrect. I am not
very sure as to what has to be the content of sysprep.xml file and what
is syntactically incorrect here.

Also while deploying the windows machine manually through the rhev
manager , while using sysprep option in run once , I am unable to find
the ip and hostname options as foundfor linux machines.

Chandrahasa S

 Dear Juan / All,

 Thanks for reply.

  I tried to give the hostname with the tag mentioned host_name. Its
 working.

 So below are the issues still remaining:

 1) The issue of internal server error still persits (rhev
 manager showing issues) even after following the advice of the expert
 and doing the initialization part just once(giving ip and
  hostname) after creating the vm.

Actually this is a bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1144005

The reason is that when you use an incorrect boot protocol we end up
storing null in the corresponding place in the database, and later we
use the value without checking it, which triggers a null pointer
exception.

The right value for the boot protocol is static, not STATIC_IP. The
STATIC_IP value is what we use in the backend and in the database, but
in the RESTAPI it is static.

To workaround this issue you can delete the VMs and create them again
with the correct boot protocol.

If you don't want to create the VMs again you can fix the database
manually like this:

# su - postgres
# psql
postgres=# \c engine
engine=# update vm_init set networks = replace(networks, 'bootProtocol
: null', 'bootProtocol : STATIC_IP');

 2) Please confirm if this is the case that we can do
 initialization part only once on a particular vm , then we can
 reconfigure the network (ip, subnet, gateway etc)
 or not for that vm.

I'm reasonably sure that you can run initialization only once per VM,
but Shahar can confirm this better than me.

 3) For Windows guest we are still unable to provide ip details
 and hostname using sysprep/payload.

I'm not familiar with Sysprep. Can you provide an example of the code
that you are using for that?

 Error attached.

Re: [ovirt-users] question on VM

2014-09-22 Thread Bill Dossett
In the absence of any comment and continued testing I have found that I can
ping the host network IP that the VM is running on... and the host can ping the
VM. So it would appear that nothing is wrong with the VM... I could only ping
the host from the VM once I stopped iptables, so the firewall was stopping
that. But I still can't ping outside of the host or ping the VM from
elsewhere... and the VM continues to get an IP address from the DHCP server
without issue. I have gone back to my networks and checked them thoroughly and
can't see any issues, I have migrated the VM from one host to another and the
condition persists in that it can ping the host that it is running on and the
host can ping it (providing I turn off the firewall) numerous reboots etc and
no change.  :(

Subject: [ovirt-users] question on VM
