[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.0 status - Go / No Go
Hi, We are supposed to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 GA (or RC3, depending on this morning Go / No go Meeting decisions) I think we can use this email for discussing / voting 3.5.0 GA release. Looking at bugzilla status, I vote no go. I also think we should move the build to Wed allowing maintainers to fix pending blockers. Maintainers: - Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot satisfy release criteria[9] - Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release - If any patch must block the GA release please raise the issue as soon as possible. - If any packages need a rebase please raise the issue as soon as possible. - Be aware that packages that doesn't need a rebase must be re-built with final release versioning from the RC2 tag. [ovirt-users] glusterized
Hi, I would make a self-hosted ovirt3.5 based on glusterfs, so the hosts will be the main storage. I followed up the http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/05/ovirt-3-4-glusterized/ . I have a question about it. Does really need the ctdb service for this? Is the localhost trick won't working for access glusterfs? [ovirt-users] self hosted engine migration to existsing node question
So I have a number of nodes already running and in production. My engine is sitting on a test box, and needs to be moved onto the already existing nodes. I've read all the docs, but none of them seem to address the the use of an already existing node. if I run hosted-engine --deploy on an already existing node, is it going to mess things up, or is it really just adding some additional config files, and creating a new VM? Also does it take any additional work to get the engine enabled on all of the other nodes for the HA version? thanks, -jj- ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

[ovirt-users] question on VM
Hi, I am creating my first ovirt VM from a windows 2008 R2 iso. After setting it all up, loading the drivers etc it looks fine, but it seems like it has no network connectivity. This is odd as it is obtaining a DHCP address and it looks like it can browse for other windows systems on the network. But I can't ping it, it can't ping out and I can't remote desktop into it. Normally this sounds like a firewall problem, but I disabled that immediately. It is using the virtio driver. It is connected to the default network ovirtmgmt which has a dhcp server on it. Ovirt-engine says the interface is up and connected and windows thinks it is connected to an unknown network with out internet access. I can't ping the default gateway from the VM console. Seems silly, but I've kind of run out of things to try on this now. I am using VLAN tagging on the ovirt-engine network side of things and it is plugged into a trunked port... but I wouldn't think that has anything to do with the VM itself as I am not doing anything with VLANs on the VM itself, it is just connected to it. All the host network/interfaces are pingable in the cluster as well. Thanks if anyone has any ideas what I might be looking for. Re: [ovirt-users] VM autoconfiguration
Hello, so, first for Centos 6.5. I made a template with steps from http://www.ovirt.org/Quick_Start_Guide: touch /.unconfigured rm -rf /etc/ssh/ssh_host_* After starting system created from my template it stops on set new root password, I must set something (may be empty) and then shows up authconfig-tui, must confirm. After this cloud-init set everything ok - network, hostname, authorized_keys, root password. To have network working, must set network in Initial Run to eth1, not eth0. So it is good to remove ifcfg-eth0 from template. But works. Bad thing is that stop on root password and authconfig-tui. I think it is some issue with unconfigured state, not with cloud-init - but don't know. cloud-init-0.7.4-2.el6.noarch from epel, don't know simple way to downgrade. cloud-init logs: http://pastebin.com/v7FS8hpj http://pastebin.com/MnnTzKAq Thanks, Jiri Dne 22.9.2014 v 16:30 Shahar Havivi napsal(a): On 22.09.14 16:22, J. [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine 3.5 rpm missing for el7
Hi, I’m testing hosted-engine v3.5.0 on el7 and it’s mostly progressing ok, however when I go to install ovirt-engine 3.5 on the hosted engine VM (also running el7) the rpm is missing. I’ve checked the repo locations on resources.ovirt.org and it appears that ovirt-engine is not being built for el7, whereas it exists for el6/f19/f20. Are there plans to build ovirt-engine 3.5 for el7 or are there blockers specific to that OS version? Alternatively, can I mix and el6 engine with el7 hosts all running ovirt 3.5? Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine 3.5 rpm missing for el7
Hi, The below response from Sandro on 12/08 in appears to answer the first question: Is there any roadmap for supporting ovirt-engine on centos 7 ? It's not in 3.5 features so it will probably land in 3.6. You can install oVirt Hosted Engine on centos 7 host and use centos 6.5 for the engine VM only. As to the second question – the above response implies that mixing el6 engine with el7 hosts with ovirt 3.5 is ok. However just to confirm, is anyone running this combination and if so did you experience any major issues or missing/broken functionality? Are there plans to build ovirt-engine 3.5 for el7 or are there blockers specific to that OS version? Alternatively, can I mix and el6 engine with el7 hosts all running ovirt 3.5? Re: [ovirt-users] Error while using REST API with Ovirt
Dear Juan, Thanks lot for support. Internal server error issue also resolved with linux guests. Now we are able to provide ip and hostname to linux guests in rhev 3.4 successfully via RESTAPI giving boot protocol as static as advised. For Windows Guest we did the following: 1) Prepared a template with guest agents installed and deployed a vm successfully through RESTAPI. 2) Following initialization part same as Linux guest did not work in this case and it gives default/garbage ip,hostname to the vm. 3) So we tried giving it through sysprep/payload tag through REST API. Code snippet is as follows: HttpPut put = new HttpPut( https://rhevmanager/api/vms/7dac74d2-c504-4bbd-8659-c8773a844cb3/;); String inputXML1 = ?xml version=\1.0\? /*vm*/ +sso+methods+method id=\+GUEST_AGENT+\/+/methods+/sso +domain+nameultimatixuat.net/name+/domain +payloads+payload type=\+floppy+\+ files+file +name/WEB-INF/sysprep.xml/name +/file+/files+/payload+/payloads +reported_devices+reported_device+ips+ip address=\+1.1.1.1+\//ips +fqdnWIN-AS05EOADAwerwer/fqdn+/reported_device+reported_devices; StringEntity input1 = new StringEntity(inputXML1); put.setEntity(input1); put.setHeader(Content-Type, application/xml); HttpResponse responseNIC = httpclient.execute(put); System.out .println(RESPONSE ::: + responseNIC); BufferedReader rd1 = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader( responseNIC.getEntity().getContent())); String line1 = ; while ((line1 = rd1.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println(LINE : + line1); } The output says that my code is syntactically incorrect. I am not very sure as to what has to be the content of sysprep.xml file and what is syntactically incorrect here. Also while deploying the windows machine manually through the rhev manager , while using sysprep option in run once , I am unable to find the ip and hostname options as foundfor linux machines. I tried to give the hostname with the tag mentioned host_name. Its working. So below are the issues still remaining: 1) The issue of internal server error still persits (rhev manager showing issues) even after following the advice of the expert and doing the initialization part just once(giving ip and hostname) after creating the vm. Actually this is a bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1144005 The reason is that when you use an incorrect boot protocol we end up storing null in the corresponding place in the database, and later we use the value without checking it, which triggers a null pointer exception. The right value for the boot protocol is static, not STATIC_IP. The STATIC_IP value is what we use in the backend and in the database, but in the RESTAPI it is static. To workaround this issue you can delete the VMs and create them again with the correct boot protocol. If you don't want to create the VMs again you can fix the database manually like this: # su - postgres # psql postgres=# \c engine engine=# update vm_init set networks = replace(networks, 'bootProtocol : null', 'bootProtocol : STATIC_IP'); 2) Please confirm if this is the case that we can do initialization part only once on a particular vm , then we can reconfigure the network (ip, subnet, gateway etc) or not for that vm. I'm reasonably sure that you can run initialization only once per VM, but Shahar can confirm this better than me. 3) For Windows guest we are still unable to provide ip details and hostname using sysprep/payload. I'm not familiar with Sysprep. Can you provide an example of the code that you are using for that? Error attached. Re: [ovirt-users] question on VM
In the absence of any comment and continued testing I have found that I can ping the host network IP that the VM is running on... and the host can ping the VM. So it would appear that nothing is wrong with the VM... I could only ping the host from the VM once I stopped iptables, so the firewall was stopping that. But I still can't ping outside of the host or ping the VM from elsewhere... and the VM continues to get an IP address from the DHCP server without issue. I have gone back to my networks and checked them thoroughly and can't see any issues, I have migrated the VM from one host to another and the condition persists in that it can ping the host that it is running on and the host can ping it (providing I turn off the firewall) numerous reboots etc and no change. :( From: users-boun...@ovirt.org [mailto:users-boun...@ovirt.org] On Behalf Of Bill Dossett Sent: 22 September 2014 16:07 To: users@ovirt.org Subject: [ovirt-users] question on VM Hi, I am creating my first ovirt VM from a windows 2008 R2 iso.
