I may be wrong but it seems you're trying to install oVirt on a system with
RHEV beta channel enabled.
Both RHEV and oVirt have ovirt-hosted-engine-setup and you may end in some
weird dependency resolution having both RHEV and oVirt repo enabled.
I suggest you to either use the RHEV channel or the oVirt repositories in order
to solve your dependency resolution issue.

[ovirt-users] importing a qcow2 disk into ovirt 3.5?

2014-10-20 Thread Paul Jansen
I've just been doing some searching to try and work out how to get a vmware
windows VM into ovirt.
It seems that the newest virtv2v has dropped support for importing from an ESXi
standalone machine - and now only works with vcenter. I didn't have any
success with using the current virt-v2v attaching to an ESXi host.

I've prepared the VM by first removing the vmware tools and have installled the
various virtio drivers, as well as running the 'mergeide' registry file to
enable IDE. I've used 'qemu-img' to convirt this VMDK file to QCOW2. It does
not appear that there is a straightforward way for me to import this new qcow2
disk into ovirt.

It seems my best option at the moment is to export the VMware VM as an OVA and
then try and use a newer virt-v2v to import this into ovirt.
Alternatively I could construct a VM in virt-manager and attach the converted
qcow2 disk to it, and then use virt-v2v to import this into ovirt.

Can someone suggest an alternative course of action? It seems strange that I
can't just import a disk into ovirt, construct a VM and attach the disk.

Is there anything int he works to make this process easier?

Thanks,
Paul

Also make sure Compatibility version of the cluster is 3.5

If the issue still persists, look for errors in engine.log and vdsm.log

Is there an alternative to the root/paasword approach to managing hosts

possible.

Thanks in advance.

[ovirt-users] oVirt 3.5 & NAT

2014-10-20 Thread Phil Daws
Hello All!

Am really enjoying experimenting with oVirt but have come across a question;
how does one enable NAT for a VM ? Would like my guests to be able to update
their software by bridging the host public IP. I could not see anything in the
WUI to allow this ?

Hi Jiri and Sandro,

Oops, the problem were here between the chair and the keyboard.
I didn't use ovirt-release35 from the beginning as I use our
configuration management and it was the root cause. I already used
jpackage repository for another project and I put it as dependency here.
There were no includepkgs statement in the jpackage repository
definition so during engine install it installed wrong packages.

I went through this problem. I'm sorry I wasted your time and big thanks
to both of you for your support.

Cheers,

Luf

I found the root cause (I was re-installing the engine to be sure).
I didn't have includepkgs in jpackage.repo repository so during engine
install it installed more packages (mainly xmlgraphics-batik which could
replace batik).
I use configuration management and I used jpackage earlier so I just put
it as dependency and don't install ovirt-release35 (I installed it later
after all packages were installed and checked update).

Thanks for your help, maybe it helps also to Kapetanakis.

Cheers,

Your problem seems to be related to a missing
"/usr/share/java/batik/batik-awt-util.jar" file. This should be provided
by the "batik" package. Can you check if this package is installed and
if it contains this file?

  # rpm -q batik
  # rpm -ql batik | grep batik-awt-util.jar

If this file is missing it may well also be the reason for the failure
described in this thread.

Check the following:

* What version of the "fop" package is installed?

  # rpm -q fop

* Does the "/usr/share/java/fop.jar" file exit? What package owns it?

  # ls -l /usr/share/java/fop.jar
  # rpm -qf /usr/share/java/fop.jar

* Does the "/usr/share/java/fop.jar" file contain the "FopFactory" class?

  # jar tvf /usr/share/java/fop.jar | grep FopFactory

* What is inside the "/usr/share/ovirt-engine/modules/org/apache/fop"
directory?

  # find /usr/share/ovirt-engine/modules/org/apache/xmlgraphics/fop -ls

* Is the FOP class actually loaded in the engine JVM?

  # su -s /bin/sh - ovirt -c "jmap -histo $(pidof ovirt-engine)" | grep

Not yet, I'm waiting to see if there is a compelling reason (oVirt wise) to
upgrade to 7 before I try any testing.

My current hosts are 6.5, and I'm not thrilled about the prospect of
upgrading to 7. Is there any big advantage to using 7 for oVirt nodes,
specifically with respect to the newer versions of KVM/libvirt?

Back in 3.3 we introduced
http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Device_Custom_Properties
but Engine exposes them only for vNIC profiles.

I'd really like to see custom properties for virtual disks, too.

It can be a very simple means to implement

Bug 1024428 - [RFE] Allow to specify disk attributes such as
error_policy and discard per disk in Web UI

and many other trick and tweaks that users may wish to enforce on the
vDisks.

Can you please attach full hosted-engine-setup logs from the host?
It may be useful also have the engine and server logs from the VM.

I don't think so. In your case the setup should have failed earlier while
connecting to the engine, not when adding the host to the cluster.

Well, for hosted engine, no changes have been made between RC5 and GA so it is
possible that yum update shows no new rpm.
The only packages changed between RC5 and GA were:
ovirt-engine
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/manual-build-tarball/434/
ovirt-engine-reports (already in RC5 as async):
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/manual-build-tarball/433/
vdsm el6 ppc (missing arch in RC5):

how can I test something that is not implemented?

once you tunnel serial over network protocol, every failure of network protocol
applies to the tunnel. this is just like modem hangup or any other hardware
failure. unless you wish to implement proprietary client side component instead
of standard ssh utility, a component that retry to establish connection, this
custom component can be provided regardless of the solution.

a software that assumes that a connection is always available will fail to
provide service after failure, at any medium.

Indeed, I did. Also, I think this is a pitfall and people should be
warned. Anyway, when filing I found there is already an open bug [1]

Hi Jiri,

what OS have you used for the 3.5 engine guest? I'm using CentOS 6.5
with:
fop-0.95-4.2.el6.x86_64
Doesn't you use Fedora with newer fop? I'm trying to find some
repository for CentOS with newer for right now (I see only for
Scientific Linux 6).

Thanks,

Luf

I was successful installing the HE on Fedora 20, which should be very
similar to rhel7. I'm going to try it on the rhel7 host just to be sure.
Will update you with the results asap.

Re: [ovirt-users] Create new Disk on 3.5 realese

2014-10-20 Thread Alexander Wels
Hi,

It appears there is no default disk profile created on upgrade, I think someone
has already reported this as an issue. But in the mean time you can create a
disk profile by doing the following:

Go to the Storage main tab, select your data domain. In the sub tabs there
should be a disk profiles sub tab. Create a new disk profile.

Once you have done that the disk profile drop down that is empty right now
should have the one you created in it, and you should be able to create disks
like before.

No question for cluster name (I also tried installation with edited

Re: [ovirt-users] VM => "No bootable device" on Centos 7 VDSM, 6.5 boots perfectly

2014-10-20 Thread Matt .
Hi,

Sorry, I forgot a reply to all.

As far as I understood 3.4 is supported as host on 7.0. As I'm
deploying new hosts I thought this was nice, also as it fixes some
issues on networking at my side.

So to be clear:

ovirt 3.4.1

Engine = CentOS 6.5
Hosts = CentOS 6.5
NewHosts = CentOS 7.0

That is not mixed I thought.

Cheers,

Matt

After upgrading to 3.5 today I cannot access /api/ on engine server.

That's strange I have exactly the same error on engine during
hosted-engine installation. See:

[ovirt-users] AllInOne Installation ovirt3.5 on CentOS 6.5 fails

2014-10-20 Thread Werner, Patrick
Hi,

i’ve tried to install ovirt on a fresh CentOS 6.5 Install. I’ve used the
Instruction from: http://www.ovirt.org/Download (Chapter: Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 6/CentOS Installation Instructions) using the All in One Plugin.

At the end of the engine-setup process i get the following error:
[ ERROR ] The VDSM host was found in a failed state. Please check engine and
bootstrap installation logs.
[WARNING] Local storage domain not added because the VDSM host was not up.
Please add it manually.

and i can’t access the host from the ovirt webadmin (Host local_host became non
responsive. It has no power management configured. Please check the host
status, manually reboot it, and click "Confirm Host Has Been Rebooted)
Rebooting doesn’t solve the problem.
Another Error is: Failed to verify Power Management configuration for Host
local_host

I didn’t install gluster support and haven’t enabled NFS share for ISO domain
(i suppose i don’t need this feature on an all-in-one host).

here is what i have entered in engine-setup:
http://pastebin.com/XjFMpzkh

ovirt-setup-log:
https://paste.ee/p/jJDkQ

Any help is very appreciated.

IIRC *not* with =<3.4.x - support for EL7 hosts started with the release
of 3.5. Note, even there it is not recommended running mixed clusters
(eg. live migration is only posible from 6.5 to 7 and not the other way
around).

Because of this it might be hard to get somebody here to help you
resolve the issue. IIRC there are people around both engine and hosts on
EL7 (i can't find the mails right now); I do not really get the point of
this endeavor (= why is EL7 so impotent; and if it is very impotent use
oVirt 3.5 right away)

OK, I'm reading this as you haven't tested it with these actions.

With real serial console one doesn't need to re-plug cable to get the
console... Thus I'm not interested anymore in the topic.

I believe there's a fix coming for it in 3.5.1. One thing is for sure-
proffered should not be used as a default.

So go ahead and open a BZ for it, and we'll see if we still need to
fix something or have it resolved already and provide the info.

Re: [ovirt-users] [ANN] oVirt 3.5 GA Releases

2014-10-20 Thread Arman Khalatyan
the second one I am not so sure if it is an bug or a feature?
The numa menu is grayed if the VM is HA.
If one remove the HA and force set VM to run on single node without
migration flag, then numa flag is editable so you can change to
"interleave" mode.

Hi Mat,

can you clarify? Is the engine running on EL7 or the hypervisor host?
In any case, I had troubles running either 3.4 (host / engine) on EL7
and reverted back to EL6.

Also, note that EL7 as host is supported officially since oVirt 3.5

there is no reason why the proxy cannot retry for a while and reconnect to the
new instance.
however this will not be provided at first nor it is that important as client
can always implement reconnect at its side, and handle this just like any other
network failure.

Hi Punit,
we need to do a bit of a research on this one.
In order to make sure we keep track of it, do you mind opening an RFE (BZ)
with all the relevant details, including the hardware that you're using,
guests config, how busy the guests/host are, Which hypervisor is used and
the versions.

Thanks,

I would love to see a better presentation template! If someone from UI wants to

[ovirt-users] VM => "No bootable device" on Centos 7 VDSM, 6.5 boots perfectly

2014-10-20 Thread Matt .
Hi guys,

I have installed a new host with Centos 7 on a 3.4.1 engine.

I have attached the right networks for the VM and strorage is attached
an mounted well.

When I start the VM, connecting to the graphical console takes very
long and when I finally get it my PXEboot is done and wants to boo
local but it doesn't see any disk it seems.

When I boot the same machine on an existing 6.5 host it boots with away.

Any idea here?

Thanks!

How will it behave when:

- VM is being snapshotted?
- VM is being migrated?
- VM is suspended?
- VM is being (cold)rebooted?

At least for last two I suppose the serial console session will be
interrupted.

VMWare uses extended communication to inform virtual serial port
concentrator about various action of a VM, thus "proxy" doesn't drop
serial connections.

Hi,

Regardless of this specific issue, can you please migrate your application to
use the new URI which is /ovirt-enigne/api ?

False Alarm.everything is working after some massaging:)
1) start VM get error: error NUMA memory tuning in 'preferred' mode only

2) stop VM edit properties:
2.a)- edit->host->Start Running on->specific host
2.b)- edit->host->Migration options->do not allow migration
2.c)- edit->host->ConfigureNuma->tune mode->interleave
Run VM and enjoy.
 done!

My upgrade went well no problems.
Unfortuneatly I am not able to run any VM on Intel Hosts.
It throws an error: Exit message: internal error internal error NUMA memory
tuning in 'preferred' mode only supports single node.
I cannot edit numa menu it is disabled on the VM.

Looks like we have a documentation gap here.
I tried to search the oVirt site for pointing you to a section describing how
to upgrade hosts but did not found one.

I think that we need to finish
http://www.ovirt.org/DraftInstallationGuide
and probably prepare an upgrade guide too.

You'll need to install the ovirt-release35 rpm on your hosts since the engine
is not able to add the new repository (yet? maybe an RFE on this should
be filled for easing the upgrade process of the hosts).

If you move your hosts to maintenance and then right click ->
'Reinstall' Engine will take care of the upgrade for you. If you are
running hosted engine, you might want to run 'yum update' on the hosts
to update to the latest engine-ha

VDSM will be restarted. But if you do the procedure one by one host, vms
will be migrated away and it should not impact their uptime/availability
(at least for me)

2014-10-20 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

Last week I upgraded to 3.5 and on the engine side everything went
absolutely fine. Now I'm wondering what to do about my hosts (full CentOS 6
installs). Is the upgrade something the engine takes care of when I set the
compatibility version to 3.5? Or should I install the ovirt-release35 rpm
and run yum update on all hosts?

Should I expect impact on running VM's, eg. from restarting vdsm?

You should have got a question about which cluster should be used for adding
the host.
The cluster name must exist in the engine for allowing setup to add the host to
the cluster.
Can you retry using oVirt 3.5 we released last Friday ensuring that the cluster
name (usually "Default") is the same of the cluster you're adding the
host?
