Re: [ovirt-users] Import FC Storage as iSCSI

2014-11-03 Thread Raul Laansoo
Hi.

I have managed to get my oVirt node running using oVirt Node Hypervisor
3.1.0_master-20140707.0. I hope this is not causing following issue, but this
Is the only way for me to test 3.5.

When I try to import existing FC storage domain I get errors on Engine (see
attached log).

Regards.

Please be more specific.

You had a machine for the engine. Did you already have DWH and/or Reports
there?

You installed dwh and reports on new VMs. Did you also run engine-setup there?
And you were careful to not install (and if you installed, to not configure,
when engine-setup asked you) an engine there?

If not solved, please post all setup logs - /var/log/ovirt-engine/setup/* from
all relevant machines.

Thanks and best,

Re: [ovirt-users] hosted engine , how to make changes to the VM post deploy

2014-11-03 Thread Jiri Moskovcak

On 11/04/2014 04:38 AM, Alastair Neil wrote:

I have successfully migrated my standalone ovirt into a hosted
instance. I have some questions and comments.

Is there a mechanism to make changes to the hosted engine VM post
deploy. I would like to change some of the VM configuration choices.

I tried setting the maintenance mode to "global" and then editing:

  /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/vm.conf

I changed something simple: the VM name. Then I copied the file to the
two other HA hosts and set the maintenance mode to "none".

- you need to kill the vm and restart it after you edit the configuation

hosted-engine --vm-shutdown
hosted-engine --vm-start

- also you can use virsh [1] to edit the vm

[1]
http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/FAQ#Where_are_VM_config_files_stored.3F_How_do_I_edit_a_VM.27s_XML_config.3F

No joy the VM hostname remains unchanged in the portal.

Also, the notification system is horrendously spammy, I get email
notification of each state change from each of the HA hosts, surely this
is not intentional. Is there some way to control this?

- that's a bug which should be fixed by this patch
http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/33518/

yes, that should be supported with local storage domain, though keep in mind
the VMs will not keep running, you will have to start them over again.

You can take a look at the documentation and the demo for import local storage
domain:
Documentation:

[ovirt-users] DWH and reports

Hi All,

We recently updated our ovirt installation from 3.4.3 to 3.5 and this went
very smooth, so thanks for that!
But now I wanted to try to install the DWH and reports on 2 different vm's.
The installation went well, no errors there, but when I try to open the
reports portal afterwards, I get a 404 and this is in the server.log on the
engine host:

[ovirt-users] hosted engine , how to make changes to the VM post deploy

2014-11-03 Thread Alastair Neil
I have successfully migrated my standalone ovirt into a hosted instance. I
have some questions and comments.

Is there a mechanism to make changes to the hosted engine VM post deploy.
I would like to change some of the VM configuration choices.

I tried setting the maintenance mode to "global" and then editing:

 /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/vm.conf

I changed something simple: the VM name. Then I copied the file to the two
other HA hosts and set the maintenance mode to "none".

No joy the VM hostname remains unchanged in the portal.

Also, the notification system is horrendously spammy, I get email
notification of each state change from each of the HA hosts, surely this is
not intentional. Is there some way to control this?

-Thanks, Alastair

Hmm.. When you say 'required network', I think 'required' in terms of the
oVirt gui. That wouldn't apply to my case, because ovirt hasn't been
installed yet. The underlying host has multiple networks, but nothing has
been configured in ovirt (unless the install detects and adds them).

[ovirt-users] oVirt Monthly Newsletter: October 2014

2014-11-03 Thread Brian Proffitt
October 2014 was a big month for oVirt. A new release, a new workshop, a new
way of installing oVirt... there was nothing about October that didn't feel
like success for the community and the software. As we start looking ahead to
oVirt 3.6, here's a look back at one memorable month!

In the Community

oVirt is very happy to announce its participation in the GNOME Foundation's
Outreach Program for Women: http://www.ovirt.org/Outreach_Program_for_Women
Registration closed on Oct. 22, and have two excellent participants working
with the oVirt community.

With all of the work being done on oVirt 3.5, our development team took the
time to create some videos and deep-dive hangouts about 3.5 features:
http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/09/a-cinematic-peek-at-ovirt-3-5/

October 16 was the next big event for the oVirt community, the 2014 KVM Forum

On October 19, the journey to our next release was complete, and oVirt 3.5 was
released! http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/10/ovirt-3-5-rolls-out/

Along with the release of oVirt 3.5, a new User Guide
(http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_User_Guide) and Administrator Guide
(http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_Administration_Guide) were released, ready to help

We're not so good in keeping up with deadlines - our recent 3.5 version
slipped for 2.5 months past the original plan. With longer cycles, this
is even harder to control.

Can we instead break the "heavier" features to smaller phases, that are
easier to maintain, and deliver the complete feature in 3.7?

Well I doubt EL6 support will be dropped from ovirt, as downstream
still requires it to work on EL6 in the future, EL6 is still in
production phase.

It won't happen in ovirt-3.6, but support for el6 would be dropped at

actually:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-September/027421.html

interesting

what about engine side? when will support get dropped there?

no, this is about hosts only.

This is very important because it most likely requires to install a new
server with el7 and recover engine db there, which needs some planning.

some point in the future. Backporting packages an re-solving bugs that
have been already solved in el7 is little fun, and drains our
developement and QE resources. We should start thinking how and when to
phase el6 out.

Hello Sandro,

maybe worth adding to Release notes, known issues:

Bottom line:
Foreman integration requires min. EL6.6+ engine because of open-jdk

Re: [ovirt-users] Certificate Enrollment Failed

2014-11-03 Thread Dinuwan
Hi Everyone,

I managed to resolve the error with Alon's tip. There was actually a
serial.txt.old file created (no idea how). What I did was put the same value in
the old file in the new one and re-installed the host and it was successful!

Thanks!

If that's your only problem, you can simply write there a number larger than
the largest one issued so far, as can be seen by 'ls -l
/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/certs'.
E.g. if the largest there is '1007.pem', you can 'echo 1008 >
/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/serial.txt'.

However, this file should not be empty normally at this point. You might
better check what caused it to be empty and what other damage this caused.
E.g. check your logs etc for the timestamp(s) of this file.

Hi Alon,

Thank you for your reply.

I just checked the serial.txt file and indeed it is empty. How do you think I
should proceed with it?

Dinu.

Using base64 to encode the content of files is just an option offered by
cloud-init. You can use it or not, both alternatives should work fine. I
think that using base64 is slightly better, because you can use it for
binary or text files, and it is easier to paste into the cloud-init file.

[ovirt-users] Mask CPU model and mixed clusters

2014-11-03 Thread Mario Giammarco
Hello,
I would like to know if there are improvements regarding ovirt support of
mixed clusters (with amd and intel cpus).
I see that is a feature supported by kvm because at least pve/proxmox and
cloudstack support mixed cluster with migration and ha.

Thanks in advance for any reply!

My bad. glusterfs 3.6 was released on Oct 31.

Are you installing hosted engine? Do you by any chance have additional
repos for glusterfs configured?
