I'm sorry but I seem to have no problem after all. If I look at the

is what threw me off. I checked the reports about an hour after upgrading.

 Here

In vdsm log I see that you installed hosted engine on NFS storage domain; not
having
multipath devices and ovirt vgs/lvs is expected.

Your multipath errors may be related to ovirt, but only because vdsm requires
and starts multipathd, and install new multipath.conf.

I suggest to try to get help about it in device-mapper channels (e.g. #lvm on
freenode).

If you cannot resolve this, please open a bug.

Re: [ovirt-users] Installation issue hypervisor

2015-02-05 Thread Alon Bar-Lev

You should see errors/warnings at event log at user interface (open the bottom
window).
In engine.log you should seek for the error prior for this message.

 Hi All,

I'm trying to add a new hypervisor to oVirt. But for some reason (and I
already did a few in the mean while ;-) ) this just doesn't want to
 cooperate...
I'm getting the following error in my engine.log:

Re: [ovirt-users] importing iscsi storage domain

2015-02-05 Thread Steven M. Bellistri
I put the storage domain in maintenance mode, then changed the time from
60minutes to 5min, then after I failed the storage over I was able to import
the domain. Thanks so much for the help. I just have one more question, is
there anyway to calculate how long it will take to import a domain, because our
production environment is about 5.5TB with about 40vm’s?

thanks

If you can't see the VMs under 'VM Import' subtab under the imported storage
domain, it means that you won't be able to recover those VMs (because their
configuration files weren't uploaded to the domain).
For the next time, you can decrease the time interval of the OVFs upload as
explained below in the thread.

Regarding the upgrade, it is possible to upgrade from 3.4 to 3.5 and once
you'll upgrade the setup and the DC compatibility version to 3.5, the OVFs of
the VMs will be uploaded to the storage domains where the VMs's disks are
located on. (again, every 60 minutes by default).

No, I did not wait 60 minutes before I tried to failover. Do, I need to start
over, or can I just failback and wait the hour for the ovfs to upload? I do
have a question, is this feature possible for an environment that was upgraded
from 3.4 to 3.5? My production environment is 3.4, the 3.5 environment is a
clean test environment, but if I cant upgrade to 3.5 from 3.4 then this will
not be a good DR option for me.

Subject: Re: [ovirt-users] importing iscsi storage domain

Hi Steven,

In order to import the VMs from the imported storage domain, the VMs
configuration files (which are called OVFs) have to be uploaded first before
the domain is detached from the setup. This is being done by engine in a time
interval of 60 minutes (it's configurable using rhevm-config --set
OvfUpdateInMinutes=value and restart ovirt-engine service). From 3.5.1, the
OVFs are uploaded once you move the storage domain to maintenance. did you do
so in the original RHEV environment? What was the version of this environment?
If you didn't deactivate the domain in the first environment and then tried to
attach it to the DR environment, the existence of the VMs in the domain depends
on the OVFs upload that was supposed to be done by the first engine, which is
being done every 60 minutes as explained, so if you've created those VMs and
immediately destroyed the setup, those VMs probably won't be available for you
in the DR environment.

Thank you for the response.

I went thru the steps 1-9, and when I get to step 10 there is no import vms or
import templates sub-tabs. I am including the vdsm.log from the host. Also,
when I do a lvs on the host, I can see the disks that reside in the imported
SD, one is 30gb and the other is 40gb. The storage domain I am importing is
called iSCSI.

the failure yesterday. I reattached the storage and half of the vm's

Error while executing action: Cannot import VM. Storage Domain doesn't exist

Funny part is, I only had one storage domain. and I imported it back into

Re: [ovirt-users] change network MTU settings without taking all the VMs down?

2015-02-05 Thread Darrell Budic
I wound up manually changing the network configs on my hosts during other
updates, one at a time. Then I migrated off the lower MTU host and repeated.
Seemed to be minor extra bit of pause after migration completed, then things
were fine (and I manually updated MTU settings on the VMs at that time, without
rebooting/shutdowns). I did have to reboot one VM that went to 100% cpu and
didn’t recover, but it has done that before and I think it’s a different
problem with that one in particular, not the process. Then I repeated on the
other host. Both though the networks in question were not synchronized, but
came up fine away. Once that was all done, I updated the MTU values via the
database, and now ovirt thinks everything is happy.

So the manaul process Loir describes for 3.4 works, and works for 3.5 if you
manage it properly. I’m still set with my vdmds forced to ifcfg persistence due
to troubles with bonded interfaces in 3.5, so this was easy for me.

There's currently no clean way to do this - we'll be looking to fix this
 in 3.6 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1055454).

You haven't mentioned which version of oVirt you're running - if it's
3.4 or lower, I think it would suffice to change ifcfg files on your
hypervisors and restart the network service. The network will then
appear as out-of-sync in the GUI, but should be fully functional with
MTU 1500. You'd also want the network configuration to be saved in case
of future rollbacks - Dan, how would that be done?

up to 3.4, nothing else should be done (assuming the network config was
already declared safe and survived reboot). ifcfg is the only persistent
 copy.

If you're running 3.5, I think you need to run some vdsm shell commands
on the hypervisor as we've added an abstraction layer for configuration
persistence above ifcfg files - again I'll ask Dan to chime in.

In 3.5 we've added a Vdsm-side persistent copy of the network,
which sits under /var/lib/vdsm/netconf/nets. You should edit the json
definitions therein in order to ensure proper network startup after
 boot.

As for getting the engine network configuration to MTU 1500 (for future
hypervisor configuration and for networks to not appear as out-of-sync
on existing ones) without taking down all the VMs (or hot-unplugging
NICs) at one point - I don't think there's currently a way other than
hacking the DB... Just leaving the network out-of-sync on the hosts
could result in inconveniences later on when configuring host networking.

Is it worth the trouble of getting MTU 1500 instead of 1448? I presume
the difference in performance would be negligible. Or are you
experiencing incoming frames being dropped due to having 1500 bytes
instead of 1448?... Either way, as you mentioned taking down the VMs can
be a last resort, or wait for 3.6 where it should be simpler :)

 Yours, Lior.

use. Any way around this, clean or otherwise? Restarting VMs to update
them is ok, just trying to avoid having to take everything down at the

I think I was getting 253:3 trying to map which don't exist on my

Hi Rik,

Even if there are storage domains in the DC in maintenance/inactive/unknown
status, as long as you have another active storage domain in the DC, the DC
should stay in up status.
As for the VMs - In order to put the storage domain in maintenance, you'll have
to shutdown/power-off the VMs which have disks located on it.

Subject: [ovirt-users] Bring down one of multiple storage domains in a data
center

Hi,

We are planning to use oVirt to manage our virtual machine
infrastructure. We would like to connect two different storage boxes to
the hosts, which I believe will result in two storage domains in the
same datacenter for oVirt?

One of the storage boxes sometimes has to be powered down during
building maintenance (electricity, cooling, ...). Will the data center
with the two storage domains attached still be considered up when one
of the storage domains is no longer available?

Is it sufficient to power down the VM's with disks on the affected
storage domain and to put the affected storage domain in maintenance?

Will oVirt keep the datacenter up and keep on managing the remaining
VM's on the other storage domain?

One of the storage domains will be a SAS-connected external storage box.
There will be two SAS connections per host to the storage box so
multipath should see the two paths. My understanding is that anything
detected by multipathd is considered FC storage by oVirt. Is that correct?

Regards,

Rik

2015-02-05 Thread Elad Ben Aharon
A small correction - as long as you have another active data storage domain in
the DC, the DC should stay in up status. (which means that ISO and export are
not counted here)

Regards,

Rik

I don't have any disk profile but I can create some one and try this
possibility. I will do it and I will come back with the result.

Many thanks,

Done, I have updated the bug in Bugzilla. I don't know how can I attach a
screenshot. I attach here in case that someone wants to added it.

OK, attached the screenshot. BTW looking at it I have a suspicion the
problem may be with the empty disk profile? If you select some, does it
 work?

Yes it seems that it is a Javascript exception. After click OK in

yeah, it is obviously a null pointer exception in frontend. I have just

Please go to that bug and try to include also some additional details

The issue with that is its not applied to each user, the quota is applied to
the whole group. So each user consumes a resource from the group. My ovirt
deployment is public and I want to cap users, but allow them the flexibility
to do what they want with the resources. Hence it needs to be per user
I don't even know if qouta's will do what I want them to

Assigning it to group and add your users into that group should do the job.

 Hello,
I'm performing a self hosted engine installation for the first time.
The system now has only one host.

Host machine and engine VM run Centos 7 .

 The host uses LVM

After ovirt installation on host console I see this error every 5 minutes:

 [ 1823.837020] device-mapper: table: 253:4: multipath: error getting device
[ 1823.837228] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table

On /dev there are't devices that match 253:4
Seems that multipath try to add /dev/dm-4 but this isn't in /dev (and dm-* is
 blacklisted in multipath.conf default)

No idea, adding Nir.

Other thing is related to the engine.
On oVirt web interface I can see the VM for engine running. I don't see IP
address and FQDN in the list.
If I try to change something in VM configuration I get the message:

Cannot edit VM. This VM is not managed by the engine.

 Is this correct??

Yes. Will probably be possible in 3.6.

For now you can manually edit vm.conf, see e.g.:

Yes this is the host. I'm sure.
I've not yet configured ovirt storage domains (only installed ovirt on host and

Group quotas can be set for Active Directory users. If a group of ten
users are given a quota of 1TB of storage and one of the ten users
fills the entire terabyte, then the entire group will be in excess of
the quota and none of the ten users will be able to use any of the
 storage associated with their group.

An individual user's quota is set for only the individual. Once the
individual user has used up all of his or her storage or run-time
quota, the user will be in excess of the quota and the user will no
longer be able to use the storage associated with his or her quota.

I want to be able to use ovirt in this manner, without acutally having
to define a quota for each user myself

so you need to setup your users with ldap groups. I believe you have to glue
here your users subscription with your ldap and then that would be no
problem. once your ldap domain is setup with the desired group its easy to
set a quota on it.

[ovirt-users] Issues adding a custom fencing agent

2015-02-05 Thread Tobias Fiebig
Heho,
i currently try to get an intelmodular server working with fencing,
following:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/devel/2014-February/006525.html
and
http://www.ovirt.org/Custom_Fencing

BaseInfo:
Scientific Linux 6.6 (engine/hosts)
Ovirt 3.5

I added an agent with:

engine-config -s CustomVdsFenceType=intelmodular
/etc/init.d/ovirt-engine restart

The issue is, that the added agent always results in:

2015-02-05 19:31:08,963 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.FenceExecutor]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-1) Failed to run Power Management command on Host ,
no running proxy Host was found.

and:
Test Failed, There is no other host in the data center that can be used
to test the power management settings.

Picking any other agent, results in the execution of the binary on one
of the cluster hosts. (which, of course fails).
Replacing one of theses default-fences with a bash-script echoing $@ to
a file prints nothing, additional programs (id, env) however do print
sth. to the given file.

Any ideas on how to continue this, to ideally get fence_intelmodular
working?

With best Regards,
Tobias

Does anyone know if there if a way to set quotas without manually
 doing it for each user.

As many of you already know I am the proprietor of cloudspin.me
where I offer IaaS for free on ipv6.

I would like to set per user quotas without having to manually do it
 for each person.

In the next couple weeks I am going to make a lot more storage
available to users, and it would be nice if they could set things up
how they want... One big machine, many little machines... Etc

 Any idea's

Re: [ovirt-users] Self hosted engine iusses

2015-02-05 Thread Darrell Budic
You can also add “find_multipaths 1” to /etc/multipath.conf, this keeps
multipathd from finding non-multipath devices as multi path devices and avoids
the error message and keeps mutlipathd from binding your normal devices. I find
it simpler than blacklisting and it should work if you also have real multi
path devices.

defaults {
find_multipaths yes
polling_interval5
…

I ran into this same problem after setting up my cluster on EL7. As has been
pointed out, the hosted-engine installer modifies /etc/multipath.conf.

 I appended:

 blacklist {
devnode *
 }

to the end of the modified multipath.conf, which is what was there before the
engine installer, and the errors stopped.

I think I was getting 253:3 trying to map which don't exist on my systems. I
have a similar setup, md raid1 and LVM+XFS for gluster.
