Re: [ovirt-users] VDSM...

2015-02-09 Thread Koen Vanoppen
Found the problem...
Because of the fact that we are working with local repos, we didn't update
the vdsm version due dependency errors with the CentOS-Base and updates
repos.
I pulled the new rpms for these 2 repos and now everything works fine.
Thanks for the help!

So, which package should I install where in our *oVirt* *3.5.1*
environment?

rhevm-3.5.0-0.31.el6ev.noarch?

It sure looks like this bug... But as I said, we are on 3.5.1...

Re: [ovirt-users] New user intro & some questions

Well said Jason,

>From my own experience here at cloudspin, I was using gluster and virt on
the same nodes. It did work, but was less than optimal.
As Jason said Hardware isn't free, and neither is electricity to run said
hardware.

I am on the SAN route right now, and time will tell if it works better, the
same, or not as good I will post results.

If you are the only user, and you are just having fun.. or using ovirt where
I started, as a way to spin up whatever quickly, then gluster and virt will
probably be just fine.

The meaning of "support" is important here -- support from whom? It's true
that there's no gluster+virt SKU of the RHEV downstream project.
All configurations of ovirt proper are self-supported, or community-
supported, and what we choose to support is up to us individuals.

However, gluster + virt on the same nodes does work -- even w/ management
through the engine. I do use gluster on my virt nodes, but I don't manage
them w/ the engine, because, afaik, there isn't a way to have gluster and
virt on separate networks this way, so I just manage gluster from the
gluster cli.

It's true, oVirt is happiest w/ separate machines for everything, and a
rock-solid san of some sort, etc., but that's not the only way, and as you
point out, hardware isn't free.

[ovirt-users] [GSoC] Announcing the 2015 Google Summer of Code!

2015-02-09 Thread Brian Proffitt
Hey, oVirt Community!

Though there was some question regarding oVirt's eligibility in the 2015 Google
Summer of Code, it turns out that we *are* eligible to apply for the program
again. Applications for potential mentoring organizations are now open and are
due at 1100 PST (1900 UTC) on Feb. 20, 2015.

http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2015

As with last year, we would need to come up with projects for students to work
on. The projects can be different skill levels, and they can be modular. They
should also be doable within eight weeks in a summer with mentor help.

If you are interested in mentoring such a project, visit
http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2015/02/mentoring-organization-applications-now.html
for more information, then come to http://www.ovirt.org/Summer_of_Code so we
can coordinate ideas prior to submitting to Google.

Given the issues from last summer, it is very important that all mentors be
very familiar with project deadlines. If you have any questions, please contact
me as soon as possible

Peace,
Brian

I can make a reasonable assumption that your switch is setup to pass vlan tags
i.e. trunk ports.

Hi,
I have two physical nics (one for the ovirtmgmt-network). So, I’d tried to make
two vLANS (one for WAN and one for LAN), and attached them to the second nic.

Re: [ovirt-users] Issues adding a custom fencing agent

2015-02-09 Thread Tobias Fiebig
Heho,
Currently there is four active hosts in the cluster. With the pre-existing
fence-configurations (i.e. Picking apc_snmp) i can always see that it is at
least executed on one of the nodes. My self-created one does not even lead so
far.

With best regards,
Tobias

[ovirt-users] Cloudspin Storage changes

2015-02-09 Thread Donny Davis
I guess I should explain why I not using gluster at this time for storage. I
was made aware that you should not run both gluster and virt on the same node,
and I just don't have the hardware to support that.

Gluster is a fine product, and when I get enough hardware to support building a
gluster cluster, I will add it back into cloudspin.

The sole reason I have to put gluster on the back burner is because I am the
only one who pays for the power to keep this gear on, and I need to be able to
keep as few servers on as possible to suite the demand.

Thanks,

Donny D

Is engine setup was on gluster, or the Storage domains which was used for the
VM's disks?

2015-02-09 Thread Donny Davis
I use pfsense with ovirt, and it works out pretty good for me. It's the only
distro that will work with Comcast IPv6 correctly.

What is your network topology?
Are you using vlans?

You can also evaluate the installation of the Neutron virtual appliance as
described here [1].
The Neutron virtual appliance is an easy way to deploy OpenStack Neutron
service within an oVirt environment: you can easily use Neutron from oVirt as
an external networking provider starting from a ready to use image.
Neutron can manage Open vSwitch to achieve the required network topologies.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-guest-agent issue on rhel5.5

2015-02-09 Thread Vinzenz Feenstra

Hi,

I see now that you have reported that you're using RHEL 5.5
unfortunately I have to tell you that the absolute minimum supported
RHEL5 is RHEL 5.6 which comes with the kernel 2.6.18-238 version which
includes the required virtio drivers.

Any prior RHEL5 kernel version won't work.

Sorry.

This seems to be strange and I have to say that I haven't encountered

Can you please run the following commands and paste the output:

Is engine setup was on gluster, or the Storage domains which was used for the

This seems to be strange and I have to say that I haven't encountered
this issue so far.

Can you please run the following commands and paste the output:

# ls -lh /dev/virtio-ports/
# ls -lh /dev/vport*

Are you running the guest agent on a RHEVM VM? This is usually an
error that occurs when trying to run on a machine which is not
controlled through VDSM which controls the required virtio channel.
