Also I have found that if you don't have the engine in DNS or /etc/hosts

You could share a tape library as iSCSI target and connet it to the VM.
I've never do a similar thing but internet give some suggestions:

 http://scst.sourceforge.net/target_iscsi.html

I've a Backup Acronis Software to install, and I'd prefer to install it on

Our old backup software is Symantec Backup Exec and we have to keep the
possibility to restore old tapes on demand.
So the solution to keep a sleeping Windows VM, and have the way to enable

I've tried to add a new hardware with virt-manager, but this action just
freeze the manager, and I need to restart the libvirtd service to unlock

If anybody knows a way to do that, I'd be very grateful.

 Hello everybody,

I have added a new host to my oVirt 3.5.0 and it has been added but when the
installation finish the host remain in Not operational state. The error in
the engine.log file is that CPU_TYPE_INCOMPATIBLE_WITH_CLUSTER. The host
is a little old. I'm attaching part of the lshw host information and the
engine.log files. I know that this host is not able to virtualize 64 bits
VMs which it is possible to do it by the other four hosts.

I would like to confirm if the problem is what I'm saying.

Seems so.

You can create a new cluster with a lower cpu compatibility level and add
it there.

You could share a tape library as iSCSI target and connet it to the VM.
I've never do a similar thing but internet give some suggestions:

Done, I have updated the bug in Bugzilla. I don't know how can I attach
 a
screenshot. I attach here in case that someone wants to added it.

OK, attached the screenshot. BTW looking at it I have a suspicion the
problem may be with the empty disk profile? If you select some, does it
 work?

Please go to that bug and try to include also some additional details

What is the besst and quickest way to move all vm's to a new ovirt
environment? (new management host). Storage is located on a SAN.

Not sure how to move the VMs, other than using an export domain.
Or directly import from the storage domain you have - 3.5 should
 support that too.

If you want to move the _engine_, you might consider migrating using
 backup/restore, similarly to [1].

So your Windows VM is managed by libvirt directly? virt-manager/virsh?
Then I think it should be supported, never tried that myself. Try searching for
'libvirt pci passthrough' and/or ask on some libvirt mailing list.

If it's something else, please give more details - explain what you want/need to
run where, OSes, virt tools/products and versions, etc.

Re: [ovirt-users] Enable Smart Array P212 thru VM

2015-02-12 Thread VONDRA Alain
That's right the Windows VM is managed by libvirt via virt-manager on a CentOS
6.6 host.
I just want to share my HP Smart Array P212 PCIe SAS Card between Acronis (on
physical CentOS 6.6) and Symantec Backup Exec (on Windows 2008 VM), I need to
be able to restore files from DAT tapes created in Backup Exec.
So the Windows will be UP only for emergency backup, the rest of the time the
device will be used to make new backup/Restore operations.
I just want to have a backup solution, for old files without keeping a physical
server for that.

So your Windows VM is managed by libvirt directly? virt-manager/virsh?
Then I think it should be supported, never tried that myself. Try searching for
'libvirt pci passthrough' and/or ask on some libvirt mailing list.

If it's something else, please give more details - explain what you want/need
to run where, OSes, virt tools/products and versions, etc.

Best,

I use libvirt for this backup server, and I also have a cluster on
oVirt, but for this case I only want to use a virtualized Windows 2008
to in case restore old tape created on our old Symantec BackUp Exec 2010
 software.

Hello Massimo,

just a wild guess. Is it possible that engine machine has its RAM full and is
forced to use SWAP? Or some other resources on it are exhausted?

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt Manager Problem

2015-02-12 Thread Darrell Budic
Also check your auth backend, especially if you’re using the old AAA. I’ve
found that with freeipa, for example, if one of my ipa hosts is down
(specifically the “first” one for the ovirt engine machine), the engine GUI
lags badly waiting for auth before failing over to the second ipa host. It does
this for pretty much everything, unfortunately.

Re: [ovirt-users] bonding problems

2015-02-12 Thread Tim Macy
Jorick, I experienced similar problems when setting up a few different
test clusters using bonds. I found that the vdsm is not setting the bonds
to persist. These are the steps that worked for me to get the host back
online and fix it permanently:
1. Put the host in Maintenance Mode.
2. Manually restore the network configuration back to your original setup
before joining the cluster. Tar up the configuration files in case you need
them again.
3. At this point you can attempt to run re-install on the host from the
engine *sometimes this worked other times it did not and I needed to do the
additional steps below.

If it fails to join:
1. Put the host in Maintenance Mode.
2. Manually restore the network configuration back to your original setup
before joining the cluster.
3. Remove vdsm from the host yum remove vdsm*
4. Delete the following vdsm configs rm -Rf /etc/vdsm ; rm -Rf
/var/lib/vdsm
5. Run re-install on the host from the engine

Making sure the network is setup to persist -
* Any networks that will persist will be identified in
/var/lib/vdsm/persistence/netconfs (bonds and nets directories) If they
are missing do the following
1. From the engine DC/Cluster/Hosts - select each host - from the menu
below select Network Interfaces - Run Setup Host Networks.
2. Verify they were added to /var/lib/vdsm/persistence/netconfs/bonds or
nets

Hope this helps.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for responding,
I did follow the same post, it doesn't work, I double checked every thing, but
no clue why it's not working.I tested the shellinabox application directly from
my browser and it works.

Subject: [ovirt-users] ovirt 3.5, shellinabox plugin not working

 Hi,
 I am using ovirt hosted-engine 3.5.1
I followed the following tutorials to configure the shellinabox plugin in
ovirt admin, but no luck so far:

Hi Wodel,

There's been some changes made in the ui-plugins infra
since the plugin published. Please try to follow a more
up-to-date instructions at: http://freedominterface.org/?p=321

Inspired by a recent post on Oved's blog regarding the new UI-plugins
infrastructure introduced by oVirt, I've decided to take my chances and
 create one myself.

I tested shellinabox on my browser from the VM and it's working.

don't know where to look for log errors, the only thing I have from the
 engine.log file is:

Re: [ovirt-users] bonding problems

2015-02-12 Thread Rik Theys

Hi,

I had a similar problem with an upgrade from 3.4 to 3.5. My workaround
was:

1. Put the host in maintenance mode

2. Stop vdsmd and supervdsmd service

3. Manually restore the ifcfg network config files

4. Start vdsmd service (which starts supervdsmd), which succeeds once.

5. Go to the setup networks tab for this host in the engine web
interface and click the pencil on each bond and network. Make a change
and change it back. Click to save it on the host. The host will become
unreachable for a few seconds

6. Afterwards the files should have been generated in
/var/lib/vdsm/persistence/netconf

It seems that everytime the system boots now, vdsmd erases and recreates
the ifcfg files. This might be the expected behaviour now but I don't
really see the point. On boot the network will now come up and when it
reaches the vdsmd service it will go down and come back up.

Regards,

Rik
