You don't have to explicitly re-import each VM.
You should find your storage domain with all the preexisting VM images.

back in december there was a discussion about Ovirt on Fedora 21. From
my point of view that was about ovirt engine. So I'm somehow lost if
Fedora 21 is at least supported as hypervisor host. Anyone with deeper
 knowledge?

 The reason I'm asking:

We are currently on FC20 + virt-preview and enjoy the feature of live
merges. But with BZ1199182 (snapshot deletion bug) I guess we might
need newer libvirt builds. With virt-preview for FC20 no longer in
maintenance we would ony be on the save side with FC21.

 Markus

Hi Markus,
Dan Kenigsberg pushed changes to our automated build system for building VDSM
on Fedora 21 for 3.5.
I've not checked if he finished the porting of the required components into
ovirt-3.5-snapshot, CCing him.
As far as I know, there's willing to support Fedora 22 in 3.6 but no plans to
support Fedora 21 either in 3.5 or in 3.6.
As hypervisor host Dan can tell you better about VDSM plans for supporting
Fedora 21, but I've not seen any feature proposal or bugs tracking the
effort in that direction.

Hi Roel,

You can change this setting in two ways.
- you can update it in db directly as you stated (not recommended)
- use engine-config -s vdsHeartbeatInSeconds=20 but prior to running
this command
you need to update config file
/etc/ovirt-engine/engine-config/engine-config.properties
with vdsHeartbeatInSeconds.type=Integer. This config value is not
exposed by default.

Thanks,

Unfortunately log entries that you copied give me almost no information about
 nature of your issue.
There are few things that we can do to understand what is going on with your
 setup.

Heartbeat functionality provides means to detect whether we still have
connection with a host. By default heartbeat timeout is set to 10 seconds but
it can be modified by setting vdsHeartbeatInSeconds.

In general whenever there are no incoming responses nor heartbeat frame is
not received engine will invalidate the connection and will attempt to
recover. If reconnection was successful you want see any other consequences
of loosing single heartbeat. I would explore stability of your network so if
the network is busy or you loose network packets from time to time this kind
of entries in the log are expected. You can increase heatbeat value and see
whether it will work better for your env.

If you confirm that your network is stable we could explore the issue further
by setting debug level logging for your engine to understand exactly how the
messages are processes by a host and when we receive responses.

VM's still continue to work correctly and the storage domains (NFS shares)

Contacted our network engineer to see if he could see a load increase on our
network, or could see any latency, errors, etc.
Unfortunately he could not detect anything yet (he is still investigating
 this).

  Hi,
The plan using import Domain seems to be OK, but when I finalize the
  importation of a Data/iScsi I have this alert :

Storage Domain(s) are already attached to a Data Center. Approving
this operation might cause data corruption if both Data Centers are active.

How can I detach this domain to a non visible old Data Center ??
Can I pass this alert without data lost ?

If the old engine is no more active and the new one is using a new
database and not an imported one you are safe to proceed.

  Thanks
  Alain

I plan to reinstall on a cloned VM from the original one, I have
cleaned the previous version, and made an engine-setup.
So I have backups from the previous Manager, I can backup to the new one.
But, reading the overt-engine-backup, it seems to be possible only

Is that right or may I launch a backup after an engine-setup ?
An engine-clean is enough to use engine-backup ?

Is there any command to verify if the storage domain contains VMs or not ?

You can execute this on one of your hosts.

# vdsClient -s 0 getStorageDomainsList
to get storage domain list, than

# vdsClient -s 0 getStorageDomainInfo domain UUID
for each of them till you identify the domain you are looking for.
You can also find there the pool UUID.

Than
# vdsClient -s 0 getVmsList pool UUID domain UUID
To get the list of VMs on that storage.

How can I check it before breaking the rest of my data importing other SD ???

No I don't see any VM images, that the big problem...

Ok, I've done that action, but after I don't any Import VMs and

You don't have to explicitly re-import each VM.
You should find your storage domain with all the preexisting VM images.

 Hi Markus,
Dan Kenigsberg pushed changes to our automated build system for building VDSM
 on Fedora 21 for 3.5.
I've not checked if he finished the porting of the required components into
 ovirt-3.5-snapshot, CCing him.

no, I did not touch any other package.

As far as I know, there's willing to support Fedora 22 in 3.6 but no plans to
support Fedora 21 either in 3.5 or in 3.6.
As hypervisor host Dan can tell you better about VDSM plans for supporting

Regardless of the ovirt builds

vdsm is built as part of any Fedora release and should be fully
operational. The only problem is the amount of testing - and here you
are most welcome to assist: yum install vdsm on your f21, and see if it

operational bug) please report it here on on bugzilla.

[ovirt-users] Failed to read VM '[Empty Name]' OVF, it may be corrupted

2015-03-17 Thread Jon Archer

Hi all,

seing a strange issue here, I'm currently in the process of migrating
from one ovirt setup to another and having trouble with the
export/import process.

The new setup is a 3.5 install with hosted engine and glusterfs the old
one is running on a nightly release (not too recent)

I have brought up an NFS export on the existing storage on the old
setup, successfully exported a number of VM's and imported them onto the
new system.

However I came to move the last 4 VM's and am seeing an issue where
after attaching the export storage to the new setup I see no VMs in the
export storage to import and see this in the log:

I've brought up new export storage domains on both the new and old
cluster (and a seperate storage array for that matter) all resulting the
same messages.

Anyone any thoughts on these errors?

[ovirt-users] VMs freezing during heals

2015-03-17 Thread Alastair Neil
I have a Ovirt cluster with 6 VM hosts and 4 gluster nodes. There are two
virtualisation clusters one with two nehelem nodes and one with four
sandybridge nodes. My master storage domain is a GlusterFS backed by a
replica 3 gluster volume from 3 of the gluster nodes. The engine is a
hosted engine 3.5.1 on 3 of the sandybridge nodes, with storage broviede by
nfs from a different gluster volume. All the hosts are CentOS 6.6.

 vdsm-4.16.10-8.gitc937927.el6
 glusterfs-3.6.2-1.el6
 2.6.32 - 504.8.1.el6.x86_64

Problems happen when I try to add a new brick or replace a brick eventually
the self heal will kill the VMs. In the VM's logs I see kernel hung task
messages.

Re: [ovirt-users] Power Management config on Ovirt

2015-03-17 Thread Renchu Mathew
Hi Piotr,

I have re-installed the node with ovirt node 3.5 latest version and tried the
power management and it shows test succeeded, on but if I stop the network of
one of the node the running vm is not migrating to the other instead both the
nodes are getting down. Can anybody help me on this?

Also is it possible to use the resources (CPU cores and memory) from other node
in the same cluster or combine 2 nodes in same clusters and create a vm on that.

Regards

 Hi Piotr,

Can you please provide me the link to download the new node iso? I can
 see only ovirt live iso.

I saw that Douglas sent following links in other thread [1] on this list:

centos7:

Fedora20:

Please note that We should share the official iso this week.

 Hi Mathew,

It seems like this is quite old version (September 2014). There were
good number of fixes in this area.

Looking at provided logs I am not able to tell which call is exactly failing.
Do you have any steps to reproduce?

 Thanks,

 Hi,
The plan using import Domain seems to be OK, but when I finalize the
 importation of a Data/iScsi I have this alert :

Storage Domain(s) are already attached to a Data Center. Approving
this operation might cause data corruption if both Data Centers are active.

How can I detach this domain to a non visible old Data Center ??
Can I pass this alert without data lost ?

If the old engine is no more active and the new one is using a new database and
not an imported one you are safe to proceed.

 Thanks
 Alain

I plan to reinstall on a cloned VM from the original one, I have
cleaned the previous version, and made an engine-setup.
So I have backups from the previous Manager, I can backup to the new one.
But, reading the overt-engine-backup, it seems to be possible only
 before doing engine-setup.
Is that right or may I launch a backup after an engine-setup ?
An engine-clean is enough to use engine-backup ?

 Thanks

Are you planning to install on a new host/VM?

 You have basically two alternatives:
 A. backup the DB and restore it on the new engine as described here:
 http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt-engine-backup

 B. Start from scratch with a new engine on a new DB and re-import
 existing storage domains:
 http://www.ovirt.org/Features/ImportStorageDomain

Option B involves a lot of manual steps but it could be also used as a
disaster recovery flow when the DB is for any reasons lost or corrupted.

You don't have to explicitly re-import each VM.
You should find your storage domain with all the preexisting VM images.

Re: [ovirt-users] Power Management config on Ovirt

2015-03-17 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

your VM was not migrated, because host node02 was not fenced. And host
node02 was not fenced, because option Skip fencing if host has live lease
on storage in your Cluster Fencing Policy is enabled. Prior fencing of
the host we check its storage connection (renewal of its sanlock lease).
You should see an alert about it in Events/Alerts tab in webadmin.

So if you want to test VM migration on your cluster, have also block host
connection to storage (and not only to engine).

Also please take a look at Skip fencing on cluster connectivity issues
option in Cluster Fencing Policy. If it's enabled and set for example
to 50% and you have only two hosts in cluster, then your hosts won't be
fenced at all due to it.

Thanks

Martin Perina

You don't have to explicitly re-import each VM.
You should find your storage domain with all the preexisting VM images.

  Hi,

your VM was not migrated, because host node02 was not fenced. And host
node02 was not fenced, because option Skip fencing if host has live
lease on storage in your Cluster Fencing Policy is enabled. Prior
fencing of the host we check its storage connection (renewal of its sanlock
  lease).
You should see an alert about it in Events/Alerts tab in webadmin.

So if you want to test VM migration on your cluster, have also block
host connection to storage (and not only to engine).

Also please take a look at Skip fencing on cluster connectivity issues
option in Cluster Fencing Policy. If it's enabled and set for example
to 50% and you have only two hosts in cluster, then your hosts won't
be fenced at all due to it.

  Thanks

Hi Martin,

I did the same as below. But is still does the same. Node01 is shutdown. Do you
think RHEV + gluster storage will not have this issue. What storage do you
recommend?

Hi,

I don't know much about gluster configuration, but one of the following should
work:

1. Turn off you host networking completely for example using /sbin/ifdown
(you will need to access your node locally or using remote serial
   console, for example IPMI)

2. Block engine and all gluster hosts using iptables

3. Disable Skip fencing if host has live lease on storage option
in Cluster Fencing Policy and block connection between host and engine
(in this case storage connection won't be checked prior to fencing)

Re: [ovirt-users] Power Management config on Ovirt

2015-03-17 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

prior to the test I would check this:

  - Data Center status is Up
  - All hosts status is Up
  - All storage domains status is Up
  - VM is running

If this is valid, you can start your fence testing. But bear in mind
what I sent you in previous email: at least one host in DC should be
fully functional to be able to fence non responsive host.

this is what happened (at least what I was able to read from log):

18:18:02 - host node02 changed status to Connecting

   - that's OK, but prior to this I can see many errors

was ok prior to fencing test?

18:18:51 - host node02 changed status to Non Responsive

   - that's OK, non responding treatment started with SSH Soft Fencing

18:18:55 - SSH Soft Fencing failed, because of no route to host node02

   - that's OK

18:18:56 - power management stop was executed using node01 as fence proxy

   - problem started here, communication with node01 was timed out, we were
not able to find any other suitable fence proxy

18:21:57 - host node01 changed status to Connection

From this point there's is nothing that can be done, because engine cannot
