Only the stripe count should be between 4 and 16. And replica
count can be 2 or 3.

For example if you try to create a Distributed Striped
Replicate volume with stripe 4 and replica 3, then you need
to 24 bricks.
4(stripe)x3(replica) = 12, then 12x2(distribute) = 24

Then if you reduce the replica to 2, then you need 12 bricks.

As mentioned in your message, if the error thrown is Replica
Count mast between in 4 and 16 , its a bug and it should be
changed to Stripe Count must between in 4 and 16

 Hello,

I tried to follow http://www.ovirt.org/Migrate_to_Hosted_Engine to
migrate an existing ovirt environment. I managed to complete the
“engine-backup —mode=restore…” step, and the following “engine-setup” step
appear to have completed. However, the ovirt-engine service was not started
 successfully has errors:

 Additionally, /var/log/ovirt-engine/console.log complains “cannot allocate

want ~11GB of memory, is that right?

 Any help is appreciated.

Can you please compare versions of all installed packages between the source
and destination machines?

I assume the failure above is right after engine-setup, right? Before continuing
the interaction on hosted-engine side?

Did you try to restart the engine (systemctl restart ovirt-engine)? Did it fail
the same way?

How much memory do you have on the source machine? And how much does the engine
actually use there?

How large is your system (hosts, VMs etc)?

Best,

Subject: [ovirt-users] Getting kdump integration to work

 Hello,

I followed the feature's page [1] and added to my test hosts the
 following lines /etc/kdump:

 fence_kdump_nodes othernode-in-cluster
 fence_kdump_args -p 7410 -f auto -i 5

Please don't do this, this is added automatically when you deploy
you host using oVirt UI with Kdump integration enabled in PM tab
of the host.

Further, I added a firewall rule on both machines:
 -A INPUT -p udp --dport 7410 -j ACCEPT

Same as above, this is needed only on engine hosts and it's done
automatically during oVirt engine installation.

 and restarted kdump.

Same as above, this is done automatically during host deploy.

Yet I get on the engine's side:

 2015-05-26 10:41:54,113 WARN
 [org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-7) Correlation ID: null, Call Stack: null, Custom
Event ID: -1, Message: Kdump integration is enabled for host 'hv02', but
kdump is not configured properly on host.

Could you please try to do it properly:

  1. Put host to maintenance
  2. Enable Kdump integration in PM tab
  3. Reinstall the host (click Reinstall when you select the host in Hosts tab)

Thanks a lot

Martin Perina

[ovirt-users] Postponing 3.5.3 RC2 to tomorrow

2015-05-26 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
our Jenkins slaves are currently suffering DNS issues so I won't be able to
build 3.5.3 RC3 today.
Infra is already investigating and the issue will hopefully be fixed by
tomorrow.

Thanks,

Looking at the code where the null pointer happened it appears you are missing
a boot protocol in the cloud init. However I don't know anything about how the
cloud init works. I am just looking at the code.

Could you please try to do it properly:

 1. Put host to maintenance
 2. Enable Kdump integration in PM tab
 3. Reinstall the host (click Reinstall when you select the host in Hosts
 tab)

Thanks! This procedure seem to work, engine reporting kdump as activated.
It was rather unclear to me, since I run hosted engine: After host
deploy they are in the default state, no PM configured. Hence, kdump
integration is disabled and will never activate since PM has to be
configured in the first place to install.

Do you think it is a better idea to always activate kdump in the host
deploy stage so it can later be activated correctly with PM configured?

Well, I've never tested kdump integration with hosted engine, so adding
Sandro to the thread.

I'm not sure if there's any value of Kdump integration for the hosted
engine itself, but if hosted engine behaves according to following
rules, you can be sure that your dump is not lost:

  1. When VM with hosted engine is migrated from dumping host to the
another host, the VM should have the same FQDN.
If not, then you will have to change FenceKdumpDestinationAddress
 parameter accordingly

  2. Also when VM with hosted engine is migrated to another host, not
only ovirt-engine service has to started on it but also
ovirt-fence-kdump-listener service has to be started

Re: [ovirt-users] Hung task in the Tasks tab

2015-05-26 Thread Christopher Cross
Thanks Eli. This morning I ran the vdsClient command and got back
{'status': {'message': 'OK', 'code': 0}, 'allTasksStatus': {}}. After
that I decided to try and restart the engine hoping that it would clear the
incorrect status and that worked. Do you think a bug should be opened? I am
not sure that I would be able to recreate it or provide much more
information other than logs. Thanks again for the help.

Subject: [ovirt-users] Hung task in the Tasks tab

  Hello,

I have been working on a new cluster on 3.5 with CentOS 7 hosts. My
 current
production stuff is still on 3.4 So I had to play around a bit to figure
 out
the VDSM networking stuff. I got it all sorted but at one point I had a
 host
that was not configured correctly and a task, Configuring networks on
 host
vm2, has been sitting in the task tab since then. I was sucsessfull in
getting the host configured with all the required bonding, VLANs, and
networks I need and the host is functioning fine.

My problem is that this task will not go away from the manager web
 interface.
I do not think it is actually doing anything but it would be nice to get
 it
out of there. I tried making other network changes and re-saving the
configuration and also rebooting the host and nothing takes it away. Has
  anyone else seen this?

please run the following from your SPM host

 vdsClient -s 1 getAllTasksStatuses

In case that there is a stuck task, it can be stopped using stopTask (see
 vdsClient --help)

In case that all is OK on the VDSM side, then it seems like a bug in the
engine side and we will need a BZ for that with engine vdsm(SPM) logs

We can easily remove that using SQL but lets first see if we can indentify
 the problem origin

  Thanks,

There was a discussion about this quite recently [1]; reading this might
be inserting, too. The reason for this is the general 'to fit everyone'
approach of the default multipath.conf.

I do not have multiple paths to the storage. In my case can i disable
Multipath - is there a right way to do it or i have to use black
 listing?
You can blacklist everything, no problem. But you need make some changes
to your mulipath.conf. Please just add the lines and do not remove or
disable any services:

to the second line (2) in multipath.conf, add

# RHEV PRIVATE

to keep host-deploy from overwriting the file.

Then, somewhere in the file:

blacklist {
devnode *
}

Then, you need to run:
multipath -d -v3

to test (it should now list all devices as blacklisted) and if successful:
multipath

Effectively blacklisting everything while dm-multipah continues to run.

Please note, if you are running oVirt node, you also need to run

persist /etc/multipath.conf

Also, you have to do this on every host in your data centers naturally.

[ovirt-users] [ovirt 3.5.1] Attach sysprep floppy from the API

2015-05-26 Thread Guillaume Penin

Hi,

I would like to attach a sysprep floppy to a Windows VM.

Currently, I am able to configure the sysprep custom script from the API
:

PUT https://HOSTNAME/api/vms/{id}
vm
initialization
   custom_script{my content}/custom_script
/initialization
/vm

After that, when I start the VM from the Web UI in RunOnce mode, I can
attach the sysprep floppy to the VM.

But how can I attach the sysprep floppy and start the VM in RunOnce mode
from the API ?
