Re: [ovirt-users] Some VMs in status "not responding" in oVirt interface

2015-09-10 Thread Christian Hailer
OK, I narrowed it down. It happens to all VMs running Windows Server 2012 R2.

Does anybody else have problems with the stability of Windows Server 2012 R2 in
oVirt? The VM is just crashing, oVirt isn’t able to contact the VM (status “Not
Responding”) and I have to kill the qemu-kvm process of this specific VM to be
able to start it again.

I already changed the NIC from e1000 to VirtIO, but the VMs keep crashing.

Best regards, Christian

Hello,

unfortunately I still have this problem…

Last week I checked all the hardware components. It’s a HP DL580 Gen8 Server,
128GB RAM, 4TB storage.

The firmware of all components is up to date.

I ran a full check of all harddrives, CPUs etc., no problems detected.

This night 3 VMs stopped responding again, so I had to reboot the server this
morning to regain access. Some minutes ago 2 VMs stopped responding…

The logs just show that the VMs aren’t responding anymore, nothing else… does
anybody have an idea how I can debug this issue any further?

Betreff: [ovirt-users] Some VMs in status "not responding" in oVirt interface

Hello,

last Wednesday I wanted to update my oVirt 3.5 hypervisor. It is a single
Centos 7 server, so I started by suspending the VMs in order to set the oVirt
engine host to maintenance mode. During the process of suspending the VMs the
server crashed, kernel panic…

After restarting the server I installed the updates via yum an restarted the
server again. Afterwards, all the VMs could be started again. Some hours later
my monitoring system registered some unresponsive hosts, I had a look in the
oVirt interface, 3 of the VMs were in the state “not responding”, marked by a
question mark.

I tried to shut down the VMs, but oVirt wasn’t able to do so. I tried to reset
the status in the database with the sql statement

update vm_dynamic set status = 0 where vm_guid = (select vm_guid from vm_static
where vm_name = 'MYVMNAME');

but that didn’t help, either. Only rebooting the whole hypervisor helped…
afterwards everything worked again. But only for a few hours, then one of the
VMs entered the “not responding” state again… again only a reboot helped.
Yesterday it happened again:

[ovirt-users] using RHEL6/7 server as host ?

2015-09-10 Thread Jean-Pierre Ribeauville
Hi,

Ovirt quick start guide mentions this :

Install Hosts
After you have installed the oVirt Engine, install the hosts to run your
virtual machines. In oVirt, you can use either oVirt Node, Fedora or CentOS as
hosts.

Is it O.K. to use a RHEL6 or 7 server as host to run Guest VMs ?

I assume that's ovirt engine is not installed on one of these hosts ( it's
better to use a dedicated machine) ?

Thx

Hello,

I am working on some consolidation of our RHEV/oVirt servers and I moved
one storage to new oVirt datacenter (put it into maintenance, detached
it from old and imported into new datacenter) which worked pretty good.

Then I tried to import all the vms which worked also great except for
three of them.

These vms are stucked in VM Import sub-tab and are quietly failing
import attempts (I can only see failed task "Importing VM clavius-winxp
from configuration to Cluster CIT-oVirt" but no related event and/or
explanation)

There is only one host in this datacenter/cluster which is SPM. I can't
find anything interesting in vdsm.log (short span of import time is in
attachment).

Can you please attach also engine.log ?

sure

well, here I can see an error... it looks like some db and/or snapshot
issue.

Yes, seems as ImportVmFromConfigurationCommand tries to add snapshots with the
empty GUID (000..0)
This cause violation of the primary key of the snapshots table
CCing Omer F on that

well and it looks like I lost also one secondary disk from one correctly
imported vm.

is there a way to show all images on some storage domain?

I found that my storage is this

[root@ovirt04 ~]# vdsClient -s 0 getStorageDomainInfo
088e7ed9-84c7-4fbd-a570-f37fa986a772
uuid = 088e7ed9-84c7-4fbd-a570-f37fa986a772

version = 3
role = Master
type = FCP
class = Data
pool = ['0002-0002-0002-0002-02b9']
name = oVirt-SlowStorage

but I have no luck with finding how to display all images on it.

try

# vdsClient -s getImagesList "088e7ed9-84c7-4fbd-a570-f37fa986a772"

yes, it works :-)

now I have list of imgUUIDs on this storage. When I compare it against
Disks tab in oVirt manager a see 5 images that are not visible in manager.

[ovirt-users] Problem with network VM

2015-09-10 Thread Rocha Neto
Hello friends, okay with you? I hope you are well.

I've tried to get in some mailing lists and could not. Did you could get me
a question, or send me somewhere that I can study about?

I rode an environment with oVirt. I have the engine running on the IP
xx.xx.xx.45 and Host with the IP xx.xx.xx.46.

Everything works fine, datacenter, cluster, host, storage (iSCSI). But when
I create a VM, install CentOS for example. I can not access the network. I
can not ping any address out. What should I do? Is there some setting I
need to change?

The host has two interfaces eth0 and ovirtmgmt, all working perfectly well.

Could someone give me a light?

Thanks in advance!

Update:

I have /27 (Netmask 255.255.255.224)
xx.xx.xx.45 engine
xx.xx.xx.46 host (vdsm) ovirtmgmt bridge
xx.xx.xx.33 is my gateway

Network of VM is:
xx.xx.xx.52
xx.xx.xx.33 gw

Yes, seems as ImportVmFromConfigurationCommand tries to add snapshots with the
empty GUID (000..0)
This cause violation of the primary key of the snapshots table
CCing Omer F on that

try

Non operational != non responsive :)

Next time please attach logs.

As far as I can see the following is the actual issue:

2015-09-10 08:45:42,384 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.SetVdsStatusVDSCommand]
(DefaultQuartzScheduler_Worker-74) [41a02af3] START,
SetVdsStatusVDSCommand(HostName = test, HostId =
400e5335-5e1c-4d7c-8470-d13b5438ad4a, status=NonOperational,
nonOperationalReason=CLUSTER_VERSION_INCOMPATIBLE_WITH_CLUSTER,
stopSpmFailureLogged=false), log id: 4d27a1fe

I guess the repository configuration of the host is ovirt-3.4 and not ovirt-3.5.

Hey Kyle,

on the Node TUI you can only configure one NIC.
Any additional configuration must be done through Engine.

Re: [ovirt-users] multi-able nics on hypervisor

2015-09-10 Thread Kyle Bassett
Ok thanks I noticed that after…

Any reason why I get this when I try to config an ip on that 2nd nic that I
will use for vm network? (the interface is red and looks disabled) how would I
enable it if I can’t do it from the hypervisor UI.

Error while executing action:

General command validation failure.

Here is what I see in server.;go

[ovirt-users] vdsm high mem usage

2015-09-10 Thread Michael Kleinpaste
Hi everybody.

So I ran into that high mem usage thing. The problem I have with patching
is that this is a live system so I can't do it mid day. Can anybody tell
me if it is possible to just restart the vdsm service or does the host have
to be in "maintenance mode" before restarting it? It is using gluster
storage, if that makes a difference as well.

Thanks,

Re: [ovirt-users] vdsm high mem usage

2015-09-10 Thread Darrell Budic
If you’re using nfs mounts (even if they are gluster based), it’s safe to
restart vdsmd, you’ll see it change status in ovirt, but your VMs will continue
running. If you’re mounting gluster based storage as glusterfs shares directly
(not over nfs), there’s another issue that will cause all your VMs to pause and
the only way to recover is to stop them and restart them, but that’s going to
happen to them anyway when vdsmd runs out of ram and crashes… Best solution is
to migrate them yourself in this case, then restart and migrate back. Or live
migrate them to NFS mounted storage so when vdsm crashes they don’t lock up,
and clean up after you’ve had an opportunity to upgrade or patch.

Upgrade to 3.5.3 or later at your earliest opportunity, the mem leak is
resolved there. Sounds like you already found the patch you can apply if
upgrading isn’t an option, but it will still require you to restart your vdsms.

Hi,

Thanks .
I'll have a look to that.

I think the only way would be to write a script using the oVirt SDK.
See http://www.ovirt.org/Python-sdk for some examples.
