[ovirt-users] Is a dedicated oVirt mgmt VLAN still needed for oVirt host nodes?

2015-09-14 Thread ccox
We have an oVirt environment that I inherited. One is running 3.4.0 and
one is running 3.5.0.

Seem in both cases the prior administrator stated that a dedicated VLAN
was necessary for oVirt mgmt. That is, we could not run multiple tagged
VLANs on a nic for a given oVirt host node.

Does any of this make sense? Is this true? Is it still true for more
contemporary versions of oVirt?

My problem is that our nodes are blades and I only have two physical nics
per blade. In our network for redundancy we need to have the two nics
have the same VLANs so that things failover ok. Which means we have to
share the oVirt mgmt network on the same wire. That's the ideal.

Currently we have a whole nic on the blade just for oVirt management. Is
this a requirement?

IIRC there are several scenarios where qemu cannot recover
from failed storage connectivity. E.g. a recent discussion on
the qemu mailing list:

[ovirt-users] [HA] Restart guest on other node on network SAN problem

2015-09-14 Thread Lionel Caignec
Hi,

i've ovirt nodes connected to a data network (provide disk for guest) with 10Gb
networking.
Recently i face a problem : one of my node have lost connectivity to the SAN.
So ovirt put all guest in "Pause" state, but when connectivity came back ovirt
did not restart the Guest.

So my question : is it possible on "disk connectivity lost" on one node, to
restart guest on other node (HA features). Or at least auto resume guest when
"disk connectivity" came back.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Sector-size (logical/physical) of 4K

2015-09-14 Thread Florian Crouzat
Hello,

I'm trying to achieve the equivalent of libvirtd "" with oVirt and
I'm having a hard time. I created a 4K luhn on my SAN and it is seen as
a 4K disk on the host, but within the VM, fdisk show 512 bytes for the
sector size. Is there a way/tips to delegate raw-data non-bootable
partition with 4K sector-size to oVirt virtual machines ?
I'm running 3.5 but I'm okay with a solution in 3.6.

Thanks
Florian

[ovirt-users] Live Storage Migration

2015-09-14 Thread Markus Stockhausen
Hi,

somehow I got lost about the possibility to do a live storage migration.
We are using OVirt 3.5.4 + FC20 Nodes (virt-preview - qemu 2.1.3)

>From the WebUI I have the following possibilites:

1) disk without snapshot: VMs tab -> Disks -> Move: Button is active
but it does not allow to do a migration. No selectable storage domain
although we have 2 NFS systems. Gives warning hints about
"you are doing live migration, bla bla, ..."

2) disk with snapshot: VMs tab -> Disk -> Move: Button greyed out

3) BUT! Disks tab -> Move: Works! No hints about "live migration"
I do not dare to click go ...

While 1/2 might be consistent they do not match to 3. Maybe someone
can give a hint what should work, what not and where me might have
an error.

Thanks.

Markus
