Re: [ovirt-users] Why my FQDN & IP is wrong

2015-10-28 Thread Dan Kenigsberg

Which version are you using? (Engine, Vdsm, and guest agent)
Which operating system do the guest run?
Is there any difference between the faulty KVM05 KVM06 hosts and KVM07?

Would you share your

  ssh root@KVM05 vdsClient -S 0 getAllVmStats

Any interesting errors on vdsm.log?

Dan.

It's not a regression cause the hosted-engine storage domain wasn't neither
visible in 3.5.
Once again, also if you see it in the engine you cannot use it for anything
apart from the engine VM itself, you still have to add another storage
domain for regular VMs.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt and Shorewall

2015-10-28 Thread Johan Vermeulen
Hello All,

I'm still experimenting with Ovirt-setup.
Because Centos/Rhel7 now have Firewalld, and because I still have some
Centos6
machines with Iptables, I was kinda hoping to use Shorewall on both.

Is there any support/documentation for this in the Ovirt-world?

Many thanks, J.

Update: after about 10 minutes the sh engine VM was powered on again
automatically and the default datacenter came up again. For about 1-2
minutes vdsm process went 100% cpu then stabilized

But the sh engine storage domain results as in this screenshot:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvSTVqTEhYVkJEVWc/view?usp=sharing

What I see in events of sh engine storage domain is:
The Hosted Engine Storage Domain doesn't no exist. It should be imported
into the setup.

I have a hosted-engine installation on my laptop (F22) and have the
exact same error message about sanlock when activating the hosted-engine
storage domain.
Situation as follows:
- export a NFS share from local disk for hosted-engine vm
- export a NFS share from local disk for regular data domain
- export a NFS share from local disk for iso/export domain.
Hosted engine setup (Centos7) completes without problems, using the
webui works too, importing the hosted-engine storage domain is also OK
but then activating it gives the dreaded sanlock error.
Have started with a clean slate a couple of times but it happens
everytime. Regular ovirt-engine setup from the same repository works fine.

Time permitting I'll do a clean slate install and make available all the
logs.

So I was indeed able to add a separate data NFS domain and able to attach
it to the default DC that came then up as an active one.
Then tried to import/attach also the sh engine domain; it went in locked
state but then the sh engine VM itself went down (no qemu process on
hypervisor).
In /var/log/libvirt/qemu/HostedEngine.log of hypervisor I can see

2015-10-28 13:59:02.233+: shutting down

expected?

what now to have the sh engine come up again and see what happened?

You should use replica 3. This configuration should be able to survive
reboot on of the nodes.

If two nodes are down, the file system will become readonly, and vms will
pause because of write errors.

Adding Sahina.

[ovirt-users] Problem starting up new VM created from a template.

2015-10-28 Thread Andy Michielsen
Hello,

I'm having troubles with a new VM created from a template. I did run
sysprep in the windows 2008R2 machine before creating a template from it. I
have already used this template multiple times and even this time it
initially started up just fine but not a second time.

This is what I see that is troublesome in the vdsm.log file when I try to
start up the VM.

Hi Bruce,

Which kind of storage are you using?
Are you changing the default file system type or the partition table type
when you install CentOS?

[ovirt-users] poor graphic performances with spice

2015-10-28 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hello,

I'm studying a possibility to use ovirt as a vdi solution with centos or
fedora guests. But using spice is awfull and graphics are very slow (in
particulary videos). Qxl drivers are installed and spice-vdagent works
as expected on the guest side.

However, it is amazing to see that glxgears benchmarks are good...
I wonder how it is possible to adopt such a vdi solution when the user
experience is so bad.
I may miss something and may need recommandations of experimented vdi
users :)

Thank you for your help.

[ovirt-users] Backup / Export Storage

2015-10-28 Thread Soeren Malchow
Dear all,

We have a large amount of Vms in the backup/export storage, basically every of
the approx 50 machines in approx 20-30 generations, the listing (in VM Import
Tab of the storage) was always very slow, but now i get an error – am small
popup with a 502.

I can not even delete Vms to make the storage smaller again.

Regarding this i have a few questions

  1. How do i reduce the amount of VMS so that i can access the VM Import
again ? Can i just delete on storage level ?
  2. Is there anything i can do to speed up the listing
  3. Does anyone have an idea how to export the exported (yes :-) ) VMS to
another storage in a way that they can be accessed and reimported if necessary,
as far as i know the machines are already ovf formats, i would only need to get
the name for each machine and write it somehwere else, suggestions ?

That made however no difference.

The issue seams to be in node: the latest engine build
requires pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 which comes with qemu 2.3 while probably
node is still built from centos 7.1 with an older qemu.
For standard el7 host we are releasing it in the oVirt repo (
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.6-pre/rpm/el7/x86_64/qemu-kvm-ev-2.3.0-29.1.el7.x86_64.rpm
) but it seams that we didn't included it in node.
You know if that version bump affects all architectures (not only my AMD
famliy) and the iso-node is to be considered bricked ?

If so does not this candidate as a blocker, or is the iso-node not part
of the 3.6 release ?

[ovirt-users] Very old tasks hanging

2015-10-28 Thread Soeren Malchow
Dear all,

I have tasks hanging for a very long time, there are 2 different possibilities

  1. The task has nothing to work on anymore, e.g. I have one task that is
weeks old that was deleting a cloned VM
  2. I have a cloned VM and that was exported and the task is still running
after 5 days - it actually isn’t running, but the VM still has the hourglass in
the front end and i can do nothing with it, i even rebootet all hosts in that
cluster already and upgraded the engine and the hosts in the cluster form 3.5.3
to 3.5.4

Any idea where to even start looking ?

understood. But I'm also not able to connect to the sh engine VM itself via
spice, so in case of problems with the engine, you are not able to connect
to it via web admin (that is ok), but I don't see any way to understand its

Are there any command line commands to run to see status of sh engine VM?

Joop, are you able to access your sh engine console? Is it vnc or spice?

Hi Soeren,
can you start by attach the engine/vdsm log (from the host that has the SPM
role)?

also, please provide the output of the following -
1. query of the engine db - select * from async_tasks;

2. run the following command on the spm host:
vdsClient -s 0 getAllTasksStatuses

thanks,

your centos ISO image.
Can you please share /var/log/messages and vdsm logs from your host to

Hi Soeren,
1. Please attach the vdsm logs so i can inspect if there's an abnormal cause to
the slowness and if improvement can be done.
2. In the meanwhile, I'd suggest you to increase the config value vdsTimeout to
a value larger then 180 which is the current max time for a vds operation
rather than delete it directly from the storage as it's error prone.
3. You can create a new export domain and then copy the ovf and disks to it,
please check that you copied all you needed and that the import works before
deleting the source.

Thanks,
Liron.

[ovirt-users] Moving a Hosted Engine from Fedora 20 to CentOS 7

2015-10-28 Thread John Florian
Can somebody please point me to documentation or describe how I should
proceed with this task? I see lots of pages for moving from a physical
engine to a VM and vice-versa but am having no luck finding how to go
about building a new HE to obsolete my original.

[ovirt-users] Must the Hosted Engine be upgraded before the Hosts?

2015-10-28 Thread John Florian
The upgrade documentation states to do so by way of a list of steps, but
it doesn't say that it must be that way from what can I see. Does it
matter?

Hmm, not much response on foreman-users..

I checked the code of fog in my foreman install (
/opt/rh/ruby193/root/usr/share/gems/gems/fog-1.32.0/lib/fog/ovirt/compute.rb
) and it appears to have the correct option merged:

  connection_opts[:filtered_api] = options[:ovirt_filtered_api]

But I don't know what url the foreman actually generates, is there any
way to capture the login string? I tried setting some DEBUG logging but
don't get the output I'm looking for.

Met vriendelijke groet, With kind regards,

Jorick Astrego
