Re: [ovirt-users] AIO UPG Error from 3.5 to 3.6

2015-11-04 Thread Christian Rebel
Hi Guys,

the workaround with hashing "ovirt-engine-xxx" under
"/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/versionlock.list" seems to be working...
I will perform some system sanity during the next days and let you know the
final result, so far everything looks fine now!

Thanks,
Christian

With hostusb some more host-dev virtualization could be added. Top of my
list is:
- SR-IOV
- NPV
- VFIO

these should be covered in 3.6, though have some caveats, please try and
report issues.

These things could be handled on cluster level - hypervisors need to
have the same hardware configuration anyway.

Also, I think its time to add official support for OpenVswitch?

I had the same goal, but for multiple independent ovirt installs. My
work-around is to deal with it outside ovirt.

- create generic nfs export for my iso mirrors
- create iso export points for each install
- add iso mount to each install
- manually (or using puppet, etc) add mirror mount on each host node
- run a script that creates a symlink in each ovirt iso mirror for all the
   isos in the mirror export
   - 3.5 handles iso images in subdirectories, but 3.4 does not [1], so the
script creates symlinks for every iso image in the top level of the iso
export for 3.4, while only needing a symlnk to the distro directory fro
 3.5.

It's a hack, but it works.

This should work without any hacks. An ISO domain can be shared between
multiple DCs or Engines.

Tal?

Robert

[1] 3.4 will descend to subdirectories to display the list of iso images
when attaching them in the UI, but the host will fail to boot because it
can't find the image unless it's at the top level.

Some "little things":

nfsv4 support (http://www.ovirt.org/Features/NFSv4)

are there specific gaps here still?

libgfapi

drbd support (http://www.ovirt.org/Features/DRBD)

Some concepts from IBM PowerHA look interesting:

I don't know if the term is correct but we'd like to be able to
group vm's together and create dependency's between them.
Something like, first start the database vm then the
authentication vm and last the webserver vm.

The//PowerHA SystemMirror//software handles the resource group

Linked clusters always use unicast to communicate between sites.

We are currently developing a benchmarking system for ovirt and

this could be an external utility, rather than core to ovirt?

I've always thought it would be a good idea to have a 'storage agent' to
run on storage domains, which could perform some operations more optimally
that the current system. For example, exporting/importing domains currently
reads the whole VM image over the network, then writes it back. In my case,
my storage is all located on the smae NFS server, which could simply do an
OS copy locally, instead of reading/writing gigabytes over the network. I
don't know if other storage type could perform similar optimizations

not in 3.6. doing native storage operations is for sure a top item in
the storage list going forward.
notice you can do these operations today at disk level and register the
externally cloned disks via the REST API.

since 3.5 you can also detach and attach storage domains across DCs/Engines

Sure you will need more components, but we don't want to
 duplicate the effort,
implementing ceph support directly in ovirt. Using
Cinder we can
 reuse the
existing ceph support, and gain also support for other
Cinder
 drivers for
 free.

On the host side, we will have of course ceph specific
support,
 so you will
be able to create ceph volumes directly, and use vdsm
api to
 start vms using
these volumes, if you want more "direct" support.

I think this is the general long term approach; integrate
 openstack components
 instead of re-implementing the wheel.

For God's sake, please, prevent "secondary" storage domains (anything

maybe it can even be considered to backport this

What I need is a GUI application or a library that can be communicate

I wouldn't recommend this.

Engine upgrade should only be done using 'enigne-setup'.

If you disable versionlock and update the engine package, you end up
running an updated engine against an un-updated database.
'engine-setup' updates both.

As mentioned on the linked bug, the correct upgrade procedure is:

1. Have a 3.5 engine and repos, and a machine fully updated

2. Add 3.6 repos

3. yum update 'ovirt-engine-setup*' (only these!)

4. engine-setup

5. If you feel like it, 'yum update' (to get updates for 3.6 packages
not updated by engine-setup).

It seems like you ran 'yum update' with 3.6 repos before updating the engine.

If you still have problems, try to yum update the setup packages and
run 'engine-setup'.

If you already updated the engine packages with versionlock disabled,
you can try running 'engine-setup'.
I think it will manage to upgrade your database, didn't check that.

Best,

Re: [ovirt-users] AIO UPG Error from 3.5 to 3.6

2015-11-04 Thread Ondra Machacek
AFAIK ovirt-engine-setup shouldn't update vdsm-jsonrpc, as it does not
depend on ovirt-engine-backend,

so please try
yum clean all && yum update ovirt-engine-setup

or you get the error , when running engine-setup ?

same Dependency Problem, I think its related to the following:

[root@ovirt-test yum.repos.d]# rpm -qR ovirt-engine-backend | grep
^vdsm-jsonrpc-java

vdsm-jsonrpc-java >= 1.0.15

vdsm-jsonrpc-java < 1.1.0

[root@ovirt-test yum.repos.d]# yum list updates | grep vdsm-jsonrpc-java

vdsm-jsonrpc-java.noarch 1.1.5-1.el7.centos

It is not really his project, he is joining the moVirt.

It would be pretty awesome if you wanted to cooperate with us on moVirt!

If you have some particular ideas what you would like to see or see some
problems than just tell us.

We can discuss here (ovirt/devel list), on moVirt list (mov...@ovirt.org), or
on irc (#ovirt channel of irc.oftc.net and look for me, mbetak or fkrepins)
The sources are here: https://github.com/matobet/moVirt/ (with explanation how
to setup devel env)
And it is released on play store here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ovirt.mobile.movirt
(or just look for movirt in play store)

Could you check if you see the file /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/answers.conf
on the host where you want to copy the answer file from?
If not, most likely something went wrong when you set up the first node.
You will find your ansers file then in this
/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/answers/ folder.

You might find some errors in
/var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/ovirt-hosted-engine*.log on the first
node. Could you provide the log from this node?

After copying the ansers file from
/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/answers/ over to
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/answers.conf you should no longer see this error
on the other hosts.

You should only be affected by that bug if you see something like

No such file or directory:
'/rhev/data-center/mnt/[...]/ha_agent/hosted-engine.metadata.

This is related to accessing metadata of other nodes through the storage
mounted by vdsm.

There is one guy which as soon as he sets his development env up will start to
contribute to it heavily.

you might also want to have a look at Arc Welder [1]. Last time I tried moVirt
was working in it pretty
nice and it felt like having a desktop client.

This release supports Hypervisor Hosts running
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1, CentOS Linux 7.1 (or similar),
Fedora 21 and Fedora 22.
Highly experimental support for Debian 8.1 Jessie has been added too.

New features include:

Experimental Docker Integration
---
oVirt Engine setup now provides experimental Cinder and Glance automated
deployment using Docker with images from kollaglue project.

Self Hosted Engine FC Support
-
Hosted Engine has now added support for FC storage

Self Hosted Engine Gluster Support
--
Hosted Engine has now added support for Gluster storage

oVirt Live
--
oVirt Live has been rebased on CentOS 7 allowing to run oVirt in 3.6
compatibility mode

-
Experimental support for running oVirt Hosts on Debian (or similar) has been
added providing custom packaging of needed dependencies.

Fedora 22 Support

VirtIO Serial Console
-
Users can now directly connect, using ssh, to the serial consoles of the VMs.

Affinity Rules Enforcement Manager
--
This feature is a manager that checks if hard affinity rules are broken and
migrates VMs in order to enforce them.

Cluster parameters override
---
Cluster parameters override feature allows to configure the 'emulated machine'
and 'cpu model' parameters for each VM separately instead of relying on the
cluster default.

This release of oVirt also includes numerous bug fixes.
See the release notes [1] for a complete list of the new features and bugs
fixed.

A new repository has been created and will be automatically enabled by
installing / upgrading ovirt-release36 package.
Please refer to release notes [1] for Installation / Upgrade instructions.
New oVirt Node ISO and oVirt Live ISO will be available soon as well[2].

Please note that mirrors[3] may need usually one day before being
synchronized.

[ovirt-users] Upgrade oVirt 3.6

2015-11-04 Thread Massimo Mad
Hi,
I tried to do the update manager oVirt, it appears to me the following
message:
Setup will not be able to rollback new packages in case of a failure,
because the following installed packages were not found in enabled
repositories:

python-websockify-0.5.1-1.el6.noarch

I checked on the Epel repository, and version of the package indicated there
isn't.
There is only the version python-websockify-0.6.0-3.el6.noarch.rpm
How can I do if I need the rollback?

Objet: [ovirt-users] Why rbd support is not natively available just like
glusterFS?

Dear oVirt users,

We are currently looking for a virtualization solution and oVirt seems to be a
good choice for us.
The problem is we have to deploy it on the top of a Ceph/RBD storage.

Maybe I missed something but it seems Ceph/RBD block devices are not available
in oVirt, just like GlusterFS. However Qemu supports it as a native storage
backend. Could you explain why it is not available ?

We saw Ceph storage could be usable through OpenStack Cinder in the 3.6 version
but we don't want/need to deploy an OpenStack infrastructure (and we don't
found complete documentation about that).

Any help on this topic would be much appreciated

Thank you for advance,

Hi Massimo,
try to add an outdated mirror (this one seams OK: ftp.is.co.za) with that
file still in as a different repo with another name

Or directly download it from here:
ftp://ftp.is.co.za/mirror/fedora.redhat.com/epel/6/i386/python-websockify-0.5.1-1.el6.noarch.rpm
and then create and add a local repo with just that file.

Hi,

I checked the logs on my hypervisor that contains also the

that come periodically in the vdsm.log file. The storage is
glusterFS running on the hypervisor as well, one NFS export domain
and an ISO domain. A NFS domain from another place is in maintenance
mode.

I am running oVirt 3.5.3.

Thank you for any pointers as to where to start fixing this issue.

[ovirt-users] Must a user see his/her VMs through the web browser?

2015-11-04 Thread John Hunter
Hey guys,

I have installed the oVirt all in one, and I can log in the user portal
through web browser to see user's VMs.

I am wondering if there is an client Application that can do the same
thing, like VMware Horizon client has version for Windows, Linux and IOS,
etc.

No, there isn't, AFAIK.
What functionality are you missing from the web-based user portal, or would
you just rather not use the web browser (or it is not installed) ?
Y.

Re: [ovirt-users] [ovirt-devel] Must a user see his/her VMs through the web browser?

2015-11-04 Thread John Hunter
Hi Yaniv,

Thanks for your feed back, the web-based user portal is perfect for me, but
our
team prefer not using the web browser, for it may not fit for our scenario.

We want to develop an GUI application that can be used by the users, provide
functions like login, manage his/her VMs, and connect to the Desktop by
click the button.

Any suggestion about this?

Cheer,
Zhao Junwang
