I often use KVM over KVM in nested environment but honestly I never
tried to run KVM over ESXi but I suspect that all of your issues comes from
 there.

Nothing else from the project. You can use two external VMs in cluster
with pacemaker but it's completely up to you.

Re: [ovirt-users] How to add faster NIC to oVirt cluser / host?

2016-01-04 Thread Christophe TREFOIS
Hi Simone,

Just as a follow up on this because I am scared to mess something up.

When I put up p4p1 (10 GbE), I have no route to that IP, and I think it is
because the default gateway is going through the other NIC.

If I change the ovirtmgmt logical network in the GUI of the engine, I might
loose connectivity to the engine I suppose.

Is it possible to carry-out this networking change from the host-console that
runs the engine?

Or do you have any alternative solution where I am able to regain access in
case the switch to p4p1 would fail?

Thank you,

You can simply edit the network bindings from the engine:

Is up to you to choose if you want just to use the 10 GbE NIC or if you prefer
to create two distinct logical networks or an active-backup bond of the two
interfaces.

I prefer little downtime (eg only temp network loss), but a full downtime
(shutting down) could be acceptable.

Thank you for any pointers or starting points you could provide,

Hi Budur,

Try running the command "kvm-ok" I'm not sure what package it's
from, but it will tell you if your system supports the CPU
virtualization commands required to run KVM. If kvm-ok isn't installed,
you can try running "egrep '(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo" vmx means you have
Intel virtualization support, while svm is the AMD implementation. IE,
on my Intel i5 I get a bunch of lines like this: (**'s added for emphasis)

Hi Simone,
Hi all,

As additional info, currently my network looks like below and I would like to
switch from em1 to p4p1 exclusively, or perhaps use em1 as some sort of backup
or for the management?

2. Also, I’m not sure I understand fundamentally the differences between the
different Network types (VM, Display, Migration). But that’s more for
insotmation.

Thank you for any pointers on this,

Would you be kind to file a kernel bug in bugzilla.redhat.com?
Summarize the information from this thread (e.g. your ifcfgs and in what
way does mode 4 doesn't work).

To get the bug solved quickly we'd better find paying RHEL7 customer

[ovirt-users] Ovirt 3.6.1 unable to manually start hosted engine vm

2016-01-04 Thread Stefano Danzi

Hi !
After upgrade from ovirt 3.5 to 3.6 I'm not able to manually start
hosted-engine vm using "hosted-engine --vm-start"

I have only one host.
I put engine in global maintenance mode, I shutdown all VM and hosted

I reboot the host and run "hosted-engine --vm-start", but the VM never
start (I waited for 10 minutes).
When I run " hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=none" engine VM
start immediately.

Possibly the original question was of different kind?
So how to manually start engine VM if environment is in global maintenance
and I have previously shutdown it? Should it be possible?
For example one wants to check it from an OS point of view and not oVirt
point of view, before exiting maintenance...

Re: [ovirt-users] R: Re: Network instability after upgrade 3.6.0 -> 3.6.1

2016-01-04 Thread Stefano Danzi

I did some tests:

kernel-3.10.0-327.3.1.el7.x86_64 -> bond mode 4 doesn't work (if I
detach one network cable the network is stable)

kernel-3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64 -> bond mode 4 works fine

I do not see anything suspecious here.

Which kernel version worked well for you?

Would it be possible to boot the machine with it, and retest bond mode
4, so that we can whole-heartedly place the blame on kernel?

Possibly the original question was of different kind?
So how to manually start engine VM if environment is in global
maintenance and I have previously shutdown it? Should it be possible?
For example one wants to check it from an OS point of view and not
oVirt point of view, before exiting maintenance...

Gianluca

Gianluca you are right!!!
ovirt 3.5 permit to start engine VM when cluster is in maintenance... I did it
many times!!! From oVirt 3.6 it is no longer possible.
VM remain in state "WaitingForLaunch" until cluster exit from maintenance.

in 3.6 maintenance means we can't run the vm. Running it means we needs its
disks available, meaning we need the domain up and monitored and with a
sanlock monitoring it. We can't
achieve maintenance action like yum update of sanlock, vdsm, agent , if the
the whole system is up.

fake_kvm_support is just for developing purposes and it's not needed as it
prevent guests to run.

Please check to understand if nested support is enabled on your host:
/sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested

if not
   echo "options kvm-intel nested=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-intel.conf
and reload the module

Than install vdsm-hook-nestedvt on your hosts.
If you want also to use the network on your L2 guest please install and
configure also macspoof vdsm hook on your physical hosts otherwise all the
traffic to/from your L2 guests will be dropped.

This will only tell you if the CPU supports virtualization - it may still
be disabled by the BIOS.
Looking at the KVM module is the best approach:
[root@reserved-0-250 lago]# lsmod |grep kvm

kvm 499712 1 kvm_intel

Re: [ovirt-users] host status "Non Operational" - how to diagnose & fix?

2016-01-04 Thread Will Dennis
I must admit I’m getting a bit weary of fighting oVirt problems at this point…
Before I move on to deploying any VMs onto my new infra, I’d like to get the
base infra working…

I’m still experiencing a “Non Operational” problem on my “ovirt-node-02” host:
http://s1096.photobucket.com/user/willdennis/media/ovirt-node-02_problem.png.html

I have pored thru the logs (all the engine logs, plus the syslogs from the
engine VM + and my three hypervisor/storage hosts) and I can’t pin down why the
one node is having a problem… Of course with how voluminous all these logs are,
it’s kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack, and I’m not even sure
what the needle looks like, or if it’s even a needle :-/

I have also rebooted this host in past days, this also did not fix the problem.

Note that on the screenshot I posted above, that the webadmin hosts screen says
that -node-01 has one VM running, and the others 0… You’d think that would be
the HE VM running on there, but it’s actually on -node-02:

$ ansible istgroup-ovirt -f 1 -i prod -u root -m shell -a "hosted-engine
--vm-status | grep -e '^Hostname' -e '^Engine'"
ovirt-node-01 | success | rc=0 >>
Hostname : ovirt-node-01
Engine status : {"reason": "bad vm status", "health":
"bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "down"}
Hostname : ovirt-node-02
Engine status : {"health": "good", "vm": "up", "detail":
"up"}
Hostname : ovirt-node-03
Engine status : {"reason": "vm not running on this host",
"health": "bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "unknown"}

ovirt-node-02 | success | rc=0 >>
Hostname : ovirt-node-01
Engine status : {"reason": "bad vm status", "health":
"bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "down"}
Hostname : ovirt-node-02
Engine status : {"health": "good", "vm": "up", "detail":
"up"}
Hostname : ovirt-node-03
Engine status : {"reason": "vm not running on this host",
"health": "bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "unknown"}

ovirt-node-03 | success | rc=0 >>
Hostname : ovirt-node-01
Engine status : {"reason": "bad vm status", "health":
"bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "down"}
Hostname : ovirt-node-02
Engine status : {"health": "good", "vm": "up", "detail":
"up"}
Hostname : ovirt-node-03
Engine status : {"reason": "vm not running on this host",
"health": "bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "unknown”}

So it looks like the webadmin UI is wrong as well…

It would be awesome if the UI would give a reason for the “Non Operational”
status somehow… Or if there was a troubleshooter that could be used to analyze
the problem… As it is, being so new to all of this, I am completely at the
list’s mercy to figure this out.

This software has such promise, so I’ll keep working thru these issues, but it
sure hasn’t been a smooth ride so far…

The engine.log is very large (4496 lines) so cannot fpaste… Is there a file
upload service that can be used to share these sorts of things with you?

Hi Will how are you?
Perhaps you can upload the log to some sort of a cloud? say google and share

I think it will be the fastest way around.
Thanks :)
please send the URL in the mailing list so everybody will be able to follow.

Re: [ovirt-users] Nested KVM - vdsm-hook-nestedvt

2016-01-04 Thread wdh

Hi all,

OK, it seems I am confused. Nested KVM is NOT the same as fake KVM

If so, I installed vdsm-hook-nestedvt on the hypervisor (only). Trying
to run ovirt-Node on a VM it complains there 's no virtualization,
despite the kvm_amd module is loaded with nested=1

How to enable nested-kvm for oVirt 3.6?

Winny

Not really true - fake_kvm_support enables QEMU emulation instead of
hardware virtualization (e.g. VT-x) instructions. It is also quite
broken in it's current state and fix is pending in cpuinfo branch at
gerrit.

I don't really understand the reason why fake_kvm would be used in
this case as AMD-v is enabled according to svm flag present -
following instructions should be correct for getting the flag passed
to the VMs.

Please check to understand if nested support is enabled on your host:
/sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested

if not
  echo "options kvm-intel nested=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-intel.conf
and reload the module

Than install vdsm-hook-nestedvt on your hosts.
If you want also to use the network on your L2 guest please install
and
configure also macspoof vdsm hook on your physical hosts otherwise all
the

traffic to/from your L2 guests will be dropped.

However, afterwards the hypervisor host cannot connect to the ovirt
Manager, on ovirt Manager the engine.log will tell:

Re: [ovirt-users] Refresh Host Devices

2016-01-04 Thread Martin Betak

Hi Christoph,

in 3.6. cluster level, the "refresh capabilities" button should do 2 things:
refresh host's capabilities and refresh host's devices. Do you see
corresponding
log entries for RefreshHostCapabilitiesCommand and RefreshHostDevicesCommand?

The RefreshHostDevicesCommand log should also be accompanied by log of result
of HostDevListByCapsVDSCommand with list of all devices reported from the host.

Best regards,

Martin B.

Its a little bit of a legacy thing. We basically officially support FF ESR
release and IE9+. This has to partially do with the GWT permutations and
partially with the fact that some time ago we didn't support mime type based
virt viewer. You would have to install a plugin in your browser in order to
start virt-viewer. IIRC the only browsers that had a plugin were FF and IE. I
can look at the code to be sure, but the message won't appears on MS IE9+ and
FF ESR 38. All other browsers it will appear due to the above.

As Yaniv mentioned we will be changing that soon.

Hi Will how are you?
Perhaps you can upload the log to some sort of a cloud? say google and share

You might also want to see what our code checks, see e.g. [1],
which is part of ovirt-host-deploy and is used also by
ovirt-hosted-engine-setup.

If you want to use it directly, you can do something like:

# yum install ovirt-host-deploy
# python -c 'from ovirt_host_deploy import hardware; v =
hardware.Virtualization(); print "OK" if
v.detect()==v.DETECT_RESULT_SUPPORTED else "Not OK"'

Sorry, this should have been all on one line but wrapped by my
mail client. Let's try again:

# python -c '\
from ovirt_host_deploy import hardware; \
v = hardware.Virtualization(); \
print( \
"OK" if \
v.detect()==v.DETECT_RESULT_SUPPORTED \
else "Not OK" \

How? Manually? Did you set maintenance mode? Please check [1].

Perhaps you also rebooted the host?

You can try to check the logs in /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha and/or
restart the ha services.

[ovirt-users] Rest api body for updating vm os type

2016-01-04 Thread Qingyun Ao
Hello, all,

I want to update vm os type by ovirt rest api.

The following is my request:
Method: put
Content-Type: application/xml
Body:

The response from ovirt engine is:

Operation Failed
[Cannot edit VM. Invalid time zone for given OS type.]

Can anybody give a correct body for updating vm os type from "other" to
"windows_7"?

Thank you very much.

libvirt refuses to start the engine VM cause KVM is not available.

but it's pretty strange cause hosted-engine-setup already explicitly
check for visualization support and just exits with a clear error if not.
Did you played with the kvm module while hosted-engine-setup was
 running?

 Can you please hosted-engine-setup logs?

[ovirt-users] Can't start VMs (Unable to get volume size for domain)

I’m running 3.6.2 rc1 with hosted engine on an FCP storage domain.

As of yesterday, I can’t run some VMs. I’ve experience corruption on others (I
now have a Windows VM that blue screens on boot).

Here’s the log from my engine.

This sounds like
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1271771

This patch may fix this: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/27334/
Would you like to test it?

To dig deeper, we need the logs:
- /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log (the one showing this timeframe)
- /var/log/sanlock.log
- /var/log/messages
- /var/log/glusterfs/:-.log

Dear list,

It seems the key for the

repository has expired two days ago.

Could it be updated please?

Thank you,

Re: [ovirt-users] Upgrade path from Fedora 20 oVirt 3.5 to Fedora 22 oVirt 3.6

2016-01-04 Thread Blaster

Hi, upgrade from FC20 to FC22 has not been tested and you're welcome
to help testing it.

What I would suggest is:
- make an image of your existing engine (I suggest clonezilla for
doing it)
- install ovirt-release36 from
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release36.rpm

- fedup from fc20 to fc22 directly, without the fc21 step
- run rpmconf -a and update relevant config files (be sure to not
just overwrite them!)

- run postgresql-setup --upgrade
- run engine-setup

I suggest to update to fc22 directly because there aren't FC21 builds
of ovirt engine and the fedup process may not work as expected with
missing repos.

If the upgrade fails, you can restore the disk image created with
clonezilla and retry with a different procedure.

If you hit any issue or if you succeed let us know!

So I did a fedup from 20 to 22, which went fairly well. I did have
some issues though:

named was missing some libraries after the upgrade. Removing named
and reinstalling has fixed that up.

rpmconf -a is giving me the following error:
# rpmconf -a
/usr/libexec/pk-command-not-found: error while loading shared
libraries: libpackagekit-glib2.so.16: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory

 dnf provides "*/libpackagekit-glib2.so.16"
Last metadata expiration check performed 0:59:14 ago on Sat Dec 26
13:19:20 2015.

Error: No Matches found

So not sure what's going on there. I do have PackageKit-glib-devel
installed.

 postgresql-setup upgrade

Cannot upgrade because the database in /var/lib/pgsql/data is not of
compatible previous version 9.2.

What do I do about this?

I did engine-setup afterwards and everything seems to be running fine.

I did have to set my host CPU type back to Sandybridge as it wasn't
recognizing my I7 4790K. Seems to be a known issue.

I also have explanation points next to all my VMs stating that my time
zone configuration differs between the VM config and the guest config,
which they do not.

Finally having a chance to get back at this. This ended up not going
anywhere near as well as I had originally thought.

The reason why the Postgress upgrade was failing was because I was still
running 9.3 for some reason after the fedup upgrade. As I started
diagnosing the known NFS server problem, I discovered after the fed22
update, it apparently only updates you to the base Fedora 22 packages.
You then need to do a dnf update to get the latest. Which then fixed my
NFS problem, but then vdsm refused to connect to the database. It was
at that point I discovered my installed version of Postgress was now @
9.4, instead of 9.3. Not sure how I got to 9.3, as I thought Fedora 20,
which is where I came from has 9.2, and Fedora 22 had 9.4.

So now I did the Postgress upgrade, which worked as expected above. But
vdsm still would not connect to the database. After googling that
issue, the only suggestion I saw was to remove the password from the
vdsm conf file and re-run engine setup. That really upset Ovirt and it
wiped out everything and proceeded to start with a fresh configuration,
wiping out my datacenter.

I do run a nightly ovirt backup, which I attempted to restore from, but
it wouldn't let me do that as my backup which was from the previous
night was for 3.5, and I was now at 3.6.1. So much for backups.

It was at that point I just decided to investigate Hosted Engine, seeing
as I was needing to start from scratch. After spending several hours
researching that, it appears HE is know where near ready for any sort of
daily driver. The WIKI how to seemed severely out of date and I
couldn't find a usable engine appliance ISO that seemed to be ready to
with out hours or days of additional hacking.

So in the end I just re-ran the All-In-One setup and spent a couple
hours rebuilding my datacenter.

So to the above steps, a dnf update needs to added as a step after the
fedup reboot.

[ovirt-users] Gluster Data domain not correctly setup at boot

2016-01-04 Thread Stefano Danzi
I have one testing host (only one) with hosted engine and a gluster data
domain (in the same machine).

When I start the host and the engine I can see data domain active "up
and green" but in the event list I get:

- Invalid status on Data Center Default. Setting status to Non Responsive
- Storage Domain Data (Data Center Default) was deactivated by system
because it's not visible by any of the hosts

If I try tu start a VM I get:

- Failed to run onDalesSRV on Host ovirt01
- VM onSalesSRV is down with error. Exit message: Cannot access storage file

Is there any command to check KVM is available or not ?

Below is the output when I run the rpm command.

[root@he /]# rpm -qa |grep kvm
qemu-kvm-rhev-0.12.1.2-2.479.el6_7.2.x86_64
